Chapter 2552 Zombie Guard

Chapter 2552  Zombie Guard

[Hint: The player's current mission target has changed: Explore the third basement of the mausoleum.]

Fang Heng and Li Shaoqiang gestured in the air for a while, and upon seeing the text on the stone slab and the game prompt, they finally stopped.

"Got it. The council has agreed to our actions and will provide support throughout. Let's move quickly," Fang Heng said, leading the way into the passage.

As the three of them stepped into the passage, they heard a series of clicking sounds coming from the stone wall behind them.

"Click, click, click..."

The stone wall moved rapidly, and with a loud bang, it closed heavily behind them.

[Hint: The player is currently in a special mission state. Forcibly leaving the special mission area will result in a failure of the default mission-Empress's Trial.]

Li Shaoqiang's expression changed slightly.

What did that mean?

Was their way back blocked?

"Don't worry, I've checked the walls; they aren't that solid. If it comes to it, we can easily break through an exit," Fang Heng reassured them.

"Yeah, okay," Li Shaoqiang and Tan Shuo felt a bit more at ease.

In fact, the ones who were more anxious than them were the high-ranking members of the Necromancer Association outside.

They had finally found a team capable of exploring the mausoleum and had located the key to the entrance of the second basement. If anything happened to Fang Heng's team, the entire progress of the mausoleum exploration would be forced to halt.

They had no idea when they would get another chance. n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

Georgi couldn't help but send another message to Tan Shuo.

The stone slab in Tan Shuo's hands warmed slightly, prompting him to pull it out and glance at the text on it.

"The council advises us to be careful and once again suggests that we find a way out first."

"Yeah, don't worry about it."

Fang Heng waved his hand lightly.

It seemed they wouldn't be turning back for now. They needed to focus on completing the mission.

As they walked down a straight passage for a while, they soon found themselves in a maze-like area that branched off in multiple directions. This time, however, things felt different.

Fang Heng halted and listened.

"Did you hear that?"

"Yeah, the sound of zombies," Li Shaoqiang replied, both of them cautiously preparing for battle.

The passage ahead echoed with the mournful wails of the undead.

Quickly, zombies began to emerge from the various exits of the maze.

The guards of the mausoleum!

Unlike ordinary undead zombies, the zombies in the mausoleum were clad in thick armor, moving steadily without swaying. Their eyes glowed with icy blue soul flames.

The high-ranking members of the undead council watched the situation of Fang Heng's group in the mirror, feeling a wave of anxiety wash over them.

The guards of the mausoleum had indeed been triggered.

Several instructors observed the enemy zombies and nodded, "These are zombies resurrected by the power of Empress Persephone. Their abilities are stronger than ordinary zombies, but they should be manageable."

In the mirror, Fang Heng and his companions formed a protective circle, warily watching the zombies that slowly gathered around them.

Zombies were typically low-level creatures in the undead faction.

However, these zombie guards were different. Besides their armor, they were inscribed with the secret engravings left by Empress Persephone, significantly enhancing their attributes compared to normal zombie creatures. Coupled with the effects of the death realm, their strength had increased severalfold.

"Go!"

With a swift motion, Fang Heng lunged forward, his death scythe slicing through the air.

"Boom!!!"

The aura of death erupted among the zombies, sending a wave of force that knocked a large number of them back.

Li Shaoqiang and Tan Shuo quickly followed suit. Although they weren't as powerful as Fang Heng, they were still capable of handling the zombies, dispatching them with relative ease.

"Follow me!"

Since none of them had been to the lower levels before, and the undead council couldn't provide guidance, they decided to adopt a straightforward approach—charging ahead in a chosen direction.

However, the maze was vast. After twenty minutes of winding through its corridors, they still hadn't found an exit.

"Whoosh!!!"

Unexpectedly, a zombie creature's black claws slashed across Li Shaoqiang's shoulder.

"Chi!!!"

In that instant, while in his Death God state, Li Shaoqiang felt a sharp pain as a black wound appeared on his shoulder.

He immediately felt a surge of agony and couldn't help but cry out.

This was bad!

The zombie creature, through a special mutation of its inscriptions, was able to attack spiritual creatures in their Death God state, and it was incredibly effective!

"Retreat!"

Seeing the surrounding zombies swarm toward Li Shaoqiang, Fang Heng immediately dashed to his side, gave him a gentle push on the back, and swung his Death God scythe.

"Bang!!!"

The explosive aura of death shattered the approaching zombies.

Seizing the opportunity, Li Shaoqiang quickly joined up with Tan Shuo and bent down to inspect the wound on his shoulder.

Fortunately, over time, the black scratch was gradually fading.

"How is it?"

"The damage is manageable, but it hurts like hell."

Li Shaoqiang felt a wave of anxiety wash over him.

The brief scratch had penetrated deeply, and the sharp pain had completely affected his ability to move.

If it hadn't been for Fang Heng's assistance, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

After nearly half an hour of walking, their resources were dwindling, and pushing forward would only make things more difficult.

Tan Shuo looked up and noticed waves of densely packed zombie creatures pouring in, frowning as he said, "Mr. Fang, we need to come up with another plan. There are too many zombies outside, and they're hard to handle."

"Agreed."

Fang Heng quickly moved to join Tan Shuo and Li Shaoqiang.

Faced with the overwhelming number of zombie creatures, using a human wave tactic with summoned creatures seemed to be the best approach.

Initially, Fang Heng hesitated to use his zombie clone ability, fearing it might trigger other traps.

But now, he couldn't afford to be cautious.

Fang Heng's face melted away like a candle, revealing the true visage he had concealed. It was essentially the same appearance, but he activated the effect of the holy weapon's Divine Prank to manipulate his passive skills.

The passive talent—zombie clone—immediately took effect!

Magic arrays flickered rapidly around him, and a swarm of red shadows erupted forth.

As the Lickers materialized, the surrounding undead aura converged toward them.

Under the influence of the black death aura, the Lickers' bodies quickly showed signs of decay, gray patches spreading at an alarming rate. They too suffered the negative effects of the death realm environment.

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"

Yet, the Lickers pressed on, braving the effects as they dashed into the passage, targeting the approaching zombie creatures.

A mass of Lickers charged at the zombies, their overwhelming attributes flattening the undead before them, as they leaped and tore into the creatures with frenzied abandon.
