Chapter 282 282: The Battle For The Floor [Pt2]
Asami gasped as she cleared out the air. Her body felt the effect of the magic-resistant smoke but she had not lost it completely yet.
"You! What did you do to me?"
Asami asked as she jumped high in the sky. Magic gathered beneath her feet as she gained a certain distance from the ground and formed magical weapons.
They fired at Alexander and he quickly shielded the place where he was standing.
But the force of that weapon caused the shield to break and knocked Alexander to be pushed quite a few steps back.
"Is that all you got?"
Alexander asked the question at the wrong time because Asami had just rushed at him with her weapon drawn.
Their swords clashed against each other and sparks flew. Magic was embedded in their weapon which caused their environment to become dented.
The original illusion Asami had weaved for their fight was fading away to show the floor behind its cut space.
Alexander and Asami exchanged deadly blows with each other. They both had different priorities that made their game plan a lot different from each other.
While Alexander wanted to escape and do his part of the plan, Asami sought a blazing battle with him.
She wanted a battle to end all battles and Alexander was the only human who could give it to her. No one else had challenged her like this before and Asami felt unreasonably attracted to his power.
"Show me more of your power. Hurry and let me see how good you are."
Bolts of lightning flew out of Asami's magic and headed toward Alexander. He parried them away with a flow of his sword and retaliated back with a blow of his own.
The anti-magic smoke had made Asami considerably weaker than before but she was still a force to be reckoned with. She would continue to lose her magic slowly so Alexander only needed to last that long.
"You are too active for an old lady. Hurry up and go to rest now."
Alexander's sword missed Asami's back by a few inches. She had somersaulted ahead to avoid being split in two.
The point where her hand touched the ground erupted into spikes and rushed toward Alexander. He had to take their force full-on since he could not avoid them.
It hurt but the recovery spell Alexander had on him allowed him to shrug off the effects and pain he felt.
"Isn't ot glorious? Only one of us will be able to make it to the end."
Asami sounded insane as she continued to attack Alexander. He had to be swift on his feet to avoid getting mauled by Asami's fists. Magic was surging out of her in abundance.
Asami had never heard the word 'holding back' and she gave it her all. All Alexander could do was match her in the power department.
"You are getting slower now. It is easier to keep up with you."
It was not easier to keep up with Asami but the insult caused Asami to lose her focus and show an opening.
"Shut up you-"
Alexander's fist knocked the wind out of Asami's body as it connected with her abdomen. But she did not go down.
Instead, Asami took a hold of his wrist and twisted his body behind her body. The angle caused Alexander's fist to cry out in pain seconds before he crashed into the ground.
"Time to say goodbye."
Asami charged her magic and fired at Alexander. It was a close-range shot that would have killed Alexander had Asami's magic not faded enough.
Asami's overexertion of her body had caused her to finally run out of gas and she could no longer pull any from her surroundings. She had pushed herself past her limits.
Her body was beginning to break apart but she could not take it all laying down. She did not accept her defeat and her death, even though she chased after that.
"Pick up your weapon. We will go at it one last time."
Asami yelled as she rushed toward Alexander with her sword held at ready. He was not ready to take her on and he only got his sword in time to see Asami right over his frame.
He raised his sword to pierce the chest in front of him but he was sure that Asami would be able to defend herself in the nick of time.
Alexander opened his eyes when he did not feel anything pierce his chest. Nothing hurt and he felt whole again.
But there was a wet feeling on his hands that felt a little thicker than water. Alexander's experience told him that it was blood that was coating his hand.
It caused him to open his eyes and look up at the female in front of him.
"I h…esit..ated. Why d..id….I….hes… I…ta…te?"
Asami asked as her hands broke free from her sword. Alexander's sword had pierced her human shell and it even peaked out from the other side.
His clumsy actions had caused him to come out victorious but it was not his effort that led to this outcome.
In the end, it had been Asami's will that halted her from killing Alexander. She had been too obsessed with death and dying a death she could accept that she had held back unconsciously when she felt that it will not happen.
Alexander was a little surprised to see the outcome but he was not shocked beyond belief. He had felt Asami's need to die a long time ago but it was only striking him now how deep it was.
"You know, I think I liked you? Maybe…"
Asami's parting words were a result of her delusion. She was trying to justify to herself why she had held back but Alexander had not felt a punch of affection from her actions.
"Now, to take your core."
Alexander pushed himself up as she crawled toward the dead body of the goddess. He tried to find her core but there was nothing inside.
The fact that Asami had died at all was likely a result of her not having her core. This was a fact that Alexander only realized once he was done searching for her.
'Fuck. so she was ready to die anyway. That is the only reason I can think of for Asami to take out her core.'
It sucked that Asami had never been able to go all out against him but he had still ended up as the weaker of the two.
Had it not been for Asami's will to die, Alexander would not have been able to survive that last hit at all.
Even a magic-less goddess was still a goddess. He was sure that Asami would have been able to take him out one way or the other.
"Shit, I am in no condition to fight the administrator now. I don't even think I can move."
Alexander's body sagged as he tried to keep it up. The anti-magic smoke had been inhaled by him as well.
And even he was feeling weaker by the second. He would be able to recover sooner than anyone else though since his constitution was different.
But the main problem remained. The administrator was still a large threat and no one knew that Alexander was in no shape to assist them.
He heard the sound of someone clapping and Alexander tensed up. If someone had managed to sneak up on him like this, then they would also be able to kill him right now.
Alexander was defenseless right now but he did not want to see his death approaching him outright like this.
"Don't worry. I have no intention of killing you or seeing you die. I saw your fight with Asami and I admired you a lot. I am here to lighten your burden."
It was Clove who had walked toward Alexander. She had hidden well and her body looked older than the last time Alexander had seen her.
She finally no longer looked like the kid she had been a few weeks ago and a visible transformation had taken place in her.
"You! Are you here to cause trouble again? It is all your fault."
Alexander lashed out but he had no right to. He had abandoned the tower as well and he had even butted heads with him.
But he had a lot of loved ones in the tower he never wanted to see go down like this. Most of the lower-case workers had died when the south attacked the tower and Alexander blamed himself for not participating in that battle.
"You made your choice a long time ago so don't go blaming me for the tower. But even if you do, you have no power to correct me. For now, just stay here and keep yourself alive."
Clove's words hurt because they were true. Alexander was powerless now.
He could only watch Clove walk away toward the administrator's office in his stead. It seemed like these roles had changed without anyone's knowing.
