Breakthrough with the Forbidden Master

Chapter 374: There’s No Stopping Me Now

“Even the radiant Lady Kaguya, who slumbers upon that shining moon, shares the same roots as my own……”

“Huh?”

『Eh?!』

Mr. Chieftain, who was sitting next to me, suddenly muttered as he looked at the full moon.

He looked into the distance… with a sad expression on his face, as if he was looking at something unreachable……

“In this world, myriad creatures pursued paths of singular evolution. Most notably, the demons of the Demon Realm, who oft mingled with other races, yielding hybrids…… or even birthing entirely new species. Such phenomena must have greatly fascinated the ancients. In time, their curiosity grew to ambition, as they sought to weave diverse genes together, crafting new beings through tireless research…….”

“Mr. Chieftain ……”

“Yet, you see, the refinement of human-like species was no straightforward venture…… Countless trials—tens, even hundreds—were met with failure. Misaligned genes, cellular discord, and rejection plagued their efforts, and the failed creations were unrelentingly disposed of… and Only through untold bloodshed and sacrifice did their aspirations bear fruit… bringing forth beings such as myself… the Seraphs… and even Lady Kaguya herself….”

Mr. Chieftain was giving me answers.

Answers to the question I asked during the day, “Who is the Chieftain?”.

Simply……

“In the world from which they hailed, such experiments were deemed forbidden…… there were laws, human rights, ethics and so on, countless constraints bound them…… but at the time, in this realm, no such restrictions existed to curb their actions. Here, they had unfettered freedom to indulge their every whim.”

It was a world beyond my imagination.

“I fled from them. I refused to believe that I had been brought into existence merely to sate their insatiable curiosity…… I desired to defy them, to forge my own path…… so, I crossed the boundaries of time…… they, in turn, did not dare pursue me into such perilous endeavors for the sake of one solitary fugitive……”

I don’t think Mr. Chieftain was explaining it to me because he thinks I can understand it.

He was asked, and he answered…… it’s like that……

But……

“But… to summarize the story, basically… the ancient people who used those underground ruins… were able to artificially create people… the Seraph Tribe… the legendary female hero Kaguya… and Mr. Chieftain was one of them?”

Surprisingly, I was able to calmly understand Mr. Chieftain’s explanation.

That’s because I actually know one person who was “created “.

“…Heh~, surprisingly you have organized my tale well. Well, to sum it briefly, such is the essence of it. Thus, I hail not from this age, nor from the time we first crossed paths those many years ago, but from an age long since forgotten—an era buried in the mists of countless centuries past. And I arrived here by means of the same relic you wielded, Young man.”

“I see…… that explains why you knew how to use that thing…… and everything else.”

“Indeed. I longed to flee from them, from the world of those who dared play at godhood, crafting life, destroying it, altering it to their whim… the ancients… those so-called progenitors of this land… no, rather, beings from realms beyond the stars, invasive trespassers to our world.”

Mr. Chieftain laughed, looking a little surprised. Sure enough, he thought I wouldn’t understand.

Certainly, if I had been told that out of the blue, I would have been confused too.

But I’ve already……

“Well, you said something along those lines in the past… and…….”

“Hmm?”

“I know someone… she’s a friend… a girl created using the technology from those ruins….”

“What? Seriously?”

“Yeah. One of the Six Supremacy of the Demon King Army… the one who had the Heraldic Eye …… used the power of those ruins.”

Kron crossed my mind.

“…… I see…… within the uppermost layers of the laboratory, one would find but basic techniques of cloning and the like… but… I see. And what of this girl now?”

“She’s traveling the world with her mom, big brother and a hippopotamus. I hope they’re having fun.”

“Heh~…I see. That’s heartening to hear.”

“Yeah… more than anything, she’s…a bit air-headed and carefree… she doesn’t think too deeply about things… she doesn’t hesitate to like people… she’s always smiling… you wouldn’t notice her heavy upbringing.”

Kron, Jamdi’el, Bro, and Hilua. I wonder where they are and what they’re doing right now.

Well, I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about with those guys, but I also miss them when I remember them.

“…… Young man……”

“Hmm?”

For a moment, I was staring at the full moon, thinking of Kron and the others, and then Mr. Chieftain suddenly narrowed his eyes……

“Young man…… do you harbor affection for this girl?”

“………… Huh?”

―― Rustle rustle rustle rustle!??

“”…………””

I was taken aback by the sudden question, and at the same time, I felt the presence of cats in the bushes behind me…… about three of them…… I’m sure there’s a big-chested kitty with its big sister cat and big brother cat accompanying it……

“…… Well, let’s drop the subject.”

“Oh, l, let us.”

I sensed an air of intense curiosity coming from behind me, but I really didn’t want to talk about it, and Mr. Chieftain must have sensed the danger so we brought the topic to a close.

I’ve also been teased a lot in love talks over the past few days, so I tried to change the subject anyway……

“Y, yeah, that’s right… so, what happened to the ancients in the end?”

“Hmm? That, I don’t know.”n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

“Y, you don’t know?”

“Indeed. Whether they returned to their blue planet…… no, to their own world many light years away…… or whether they met their end… I cannot say. The air and environment of this world never suited them to begin with, so they couldn’t freely traverse the Surface World or the Demon Realm…… Even Lady Kaguya, whom they wrought to adapt to this environment…… and the folk of Shiznautmy, who are thought to have been their descendants… all have faded into extinction.”

This world? Somehow, I feel that the world he is referring to is not the Demon Realm, the Surface World, or the Heavens, but a more fundamentally different world.

Come to think of it, he did say something about being outside the planet……

Unusually, Tre’ainar was also listening with a serious expression…… does this mean I’m being told something extremely important hidden behind history?

“The ruins of the research facility… Though the outermost areas have long been investigated and tampered with by both humans and demons, the deepest chambers remain beyond reach. Only you, Young man, bearer of the Master Key, can access them…… Thus, should you so desire, you could wield that power as you see fit. Not merely traversing time… but crafting entirely new forms of life. I say, even the means to destroy this world lies within your grasp—an arsenal of forbidden knowledge and dread power…….”

“You’ve got to be kidding me. I wouldn’t do that. Such a disgusting thing to do… what’s the fun in that?”

“Hahaha, I expected as much from you, Young man…… but in the end, it is to say, the choice lies wholly within your hands.”

After saying that, Mr. Chieftain stood up, stretching out.

“I shall bear witness to the continuation of The Adventures of Ragaan-Man…… no… the adventures of Ragaan-Man and his companions… perhaps? Wherever your path may lead…… however the outcome may appear…… I shall content myself in observing your journey from afar.”

“Mr. Chieftain……”

“Whilst I watch over the growth of my cherished daughter, I shall observe your fateful odyssey, Young man, committing it to parchment and living a life of serene leisure. Such is my purpose now, and shall be henceforth. Therefore, Young man, stray not from your course, but go freely to where your heart would lead you.”

It seemed as though everything that needed to be said had been said, and Mr. Chieftain turned his back and headed back to the settlement.

And finally……

“Now, there is no one to stop you, Espie, and Slayer from your grand adventure. Thus, I bid you, savor each moment without regret.”

It felt like Mr. Chieftain was giving me a push with those words, almost like a cheer.

“Hehe, there’s no stopping me now… huh. I’m feeling motivated now. Let’s go to bed early today and get some training, Tre’ainar! Let’s train hard!”

I was kind of happy, and I was looking forward to the future, so I told Tre’ainar next to me in excitement.

And then……

『Savor each moment without regret…huh…huh…indeed…child. Go to bed now. Today’s training commences!』

Although Tre’ainar seemed to have a lot on his mind, he smiled and nodded back with a somewhat refreshed face.
