Quest:
+(Main) Reach level 15 and Evolve!
———-
Blake, Robus, and Cyra had been running around the forest and the plains to fill their bellies- or more particularly their souls with the hundreds of scattered souls that came from the undead demons.
The time that it took them to go around and eat the souls was actually longer than the actual time that it took Blake and the group to defeat the necromancer as they had to grab each soul with their hands and swallow them one by one.
But none of them were complaining as there couldn’t be any easier way to get souls other than just walking around and snatching souls from the air. And as a result, Blake now had (174/175) souls, only 1 soul away from reaching level 15 and finally evolving. And with the souls around them being still more than many, Blake could evolve any time he wanted by eating any of the scattered souls because even the weakest of them gave out at least 1 soul.
Blake wanted to get this done as soon as possible and activate the bracelet on his wrist to call Vera. His hard work for the past week was motivated the most by the thought of reuniting with her again. And the thought of only being a soul away from reaching her again made Blake’s heart finally at ease, the urgentness that clouded his being finally receding.
However, Blake held himself back slightly as he noticed the change happening in his best friend’s body.
He wasn’t the only one that had been eating souls nonstop for the past fifteen minutes, Cyra and Robus were also doing the same. And while Cyra had reported that she felt her strength had increased, Robus had yet to say anything so far.
Cyra feeling her strength increasing without actually seeing or feeling a major change in her could only mean that she had only leveled up and not evolved, but the silent Robus that kept on eating souls finally stopped as he released another roar that Blake couldn’t understand the meaning of.
That sudden roar was enough to get his attention, leaving the souls in front of him and walking over to where Robus was. And certainly, when he got close enough to the gorilla, Blake could feel nether in the surroundings moved, all of them were seemingly being funneled into Robus’ body.
The ethereal nether that one couldn’t simply see with naked eyes seemed to have changed its properties as they neared Robus’ body. Some of them turned black, the same color as the dark element, while the others turned brown, the color that represents the earth element.
The two-colored nether swirled towards Robus. At first, they looked thin like a mist, but over time, the mist turned liquid, and at this time, Blake could feel the same quality of nether than his body exerted whenever he went and cast a second realm darkness spell.
The condensed nether had now completely covered Robus’ huge body from head to toe, blocking him from being seen by anyone outside the swirl of nether that was now so huge it could be said to be a mini dark earth nether tornado.
Blake observed the scene quietly, not knowing what was actually happening because he had never seen it before, but kept his eyes locked on the scene as such a major change could only mean one thing, and it was Robus’ evolution.
Blake had his guesses about Robus’ level for quite a while considering the huge gorilla had only leveled up a few times when Blake was with him, but Blake already had a guess that Robus was above level 10 from the very start of their covenant, hence the reason he hardly leveled up at first before Blake told him to eat even the tasteless souls coming from weak demons.
It would make sense a lot now that Blake knew that his gorilla best friend could defeat the strong demonic beasts back on the island without having the knowledge of different kinds of runes and spells as he did. Robus was already nearing the top in the first place. And now, he finally reached that top.
The mini nether tornado stayed surrounding Robus’ body for about a whole minute before changes finally occurred.
The dense nether that acted as a blind that blocked everyone’s view from anything that happened inside had finally become more see-through as most of the abundant amount of nether had entered Robus’ body, but the tornado was still rather thick, only revealing a huge silhouette hidden behind the tornado blind.
It lasted for another 30 seconds before Robus finally made his debut. At the last second when the tornado blind had become so thin that it barely obstructed the view inside anymore, the large silhouette inside finally moved after being still for almost 2 minutes.
Starting from raising his arms to the side, the tornado blind then finally dispersed completely as the last of them entered Robus’ body.
“ROARRRRRR!”
A thunderous roar that shook the trees and made the ground tremble was released from Robus’ mouth. Calling everyone in the area to look at him, showing his enormous body that was now as tall as the trees, and his index finger alone was three-quarters as huge as Blake’s body.
The color of his fur was still as black as the moment he made the covenant with Blake, but now, additional brown fur going the length of his waist on his back also decorated Robus’ look, similar to the silverback gorilla that Blake had seen back on earth, with the difference Robus being a brownback gorilla instead of a silver one.
As the thunderous roar died down and the trees and the ground beneath them had calmed down, Robus turned his head to the side, looking at his best friend that kept on getting smaller as time passed, and his new little fiery friend that had now become minuscule to his eyes.
“Congratulations on your evolution, Robus!” Blake shouted out loud, making sure that his now medium-building-sized best friend could hear his voice from about fifteen meters below his head.
“R.”
“Congratulations, big uncle!” Cyra followed suit, following Blake’s instruction to call him uncle.
Blake waited for another growl from Robus so that he could translate it to Cyra and he certainly couldn’t believe what he heard next.
“T…Thank you, little one...”
The unexpected voice coming out of Robus’ mouth was the deepest voice that Blake had ever heard in his life, even defeating the old teacher that had taught him back at school in terms of how deep it is.
“Robus, you can talk now!?”
“Rrr” Another growl came this time, making Blake furrow his eyebrow. But he still understood what the growl meant and soon nodded his head.
“Alright, you can’t get used to talking in an instant after all. You can practice with Cyra, she would definitely love to talk more with you.”
“Let’s play again uncle! This time, I can easily understand you without you having to flail your fingers around!”
“Y…Yes...”
Seeing the significant change in his best friend’s body, of course, Blake was now more than excited to evolve himself. He was now looking forward to what changes would happen to his body other than his wings would finally grow completely and he would be able to fly properly without using Cyra’s explosions.
“Cyra, you should eat all the souls remaining if you don’t want to get left out by me and uncle Robus,” Blake said as he walked to the nearest soul and grabbed it in his hand.
“I will do, brother!”
With that, Cyra went off into the surroundings, eating every soul that came into her eyes, and walked all over the place to find the other souls that were left behind or still untouched.
“It’s time…” Blake slowly muttered as he swallowed the last soul that he needed to finally break through to level 15.
[You have leveled up!]
[Congratulations host! You have worked hard to reach this level.]
The system’s voice that he had heard not so long ago appeared again in his head, and it had brought good news to him.
[Prepare yourself for your first evolution!]
