Chapter 243 - 243 It Seems I’ve Gotten Slightly Stronger Again

243 It Seems I’ve Gotten Slightly Stronger Again

After telling the group to step back and make sure they were quite far away from him, Blake then began drawing the runes that were inscribed on the flame explosion rune formation box, making an exact replica of those runes on the black ground beneath his feet.

Blake made sure every stroke, every bend, every straight line, and the order of the runes were written the exact same as the one that he had seen on the rune formation box.

With the threat of the vultures coming in closer and closer, Blake didn’t waste any time and started writing the set of runes while making sure that he did everything correctly so he didn’t need to double-check the runes that he had already written.

Blake was tempted to break down the flame explosion runes and analyze them as he noticed several parts of the flame explosion runes were just simple flame elemental spells that were connected with each other, which he could use now that he got the fire affinity from Cyra, but Blake quickly shelved the thoughts down as he needed to finish the rune formations quickly.

Blake finished the original set of flame explosion runes in just a few seconds, before then placing the rune formation box that contained the whirlwind spell in the middle of the flame explosion rune formation.

He might have secured the two rune formations in the right place and he had finished drawing the flame explosion rune formation, but Blake wasn’t done with the preparation yet.

If he were to activate the whirlwind and the flame explosion rune formations right there and then, Blake would not only endanger himself as he would only be getting two seconds at most to run away from the perimeter to prevent himself from being hit by his own spell but he would also hit nothing as his targets, the vultures were still some distance away from his current location.

So to combat that, Blake needed to do more preparations rather than just placing the two sets of rune formations together.

Using the knowledge Vera had given him, Blake started drawing additional runes on the two rune formations so that he could use them with utmost efficiency while also making sure he himself was safe from them.

.....

Blake drew the runes that would connect the two together, making sure that the two rune formations would activate together the moment either of the two was activated so that the two rune formations wouldn’t ruin each other and break apart the combination spell.

If Vera had helped him, Blake wouldn’t have had to make sure the two activated at the same time to make sure they worked since Vera could isolate the space around the rune formations while leaving an exit point for the manifested spell to go out of the isolated space.

In simpler terms, Vera could make the two rune formations safe from any outside interference while the rune formations themselves could affect their surroundings.

‘I guess I understand now why Vera said space elemental mages, even more so runemasters, were really sought out…’ Blake thought to himself as he started making a safety measure for himself.

Connecting the two rune formations might have solved the trouble of the rune formations destroying each other before the spells inside them manifested, but it had not resolved the problem of him having only a two-second window to get himself out of the whirlwind’s suction range.

And to do that, Blake drew a simple set of runes that he extended to the ground some distance away from the rune formations, giving him enough gap to completely get away from the rune formations combination spell.

Blake had made a simple wiring system that did not transfer electricity but instead nether to the rune formation from a distance away to keep himself safe. Something that was also not needed if he had Vera help him.

With her space element, Vera could make something like a remote that could activate the rune formation from afar, something that she did with her mass teleportation spell that teleported more than ten humanoid demons way high up into the sky.

‘Again, the space element is quite a cheat element to have…’ Realizing how convenient it would be to have the capability to use the space element, Blake shook his head as he now double-checked the completed rune formation combination, and waited for the perfect time to activate it.

While waiting for the vultures to get close enough, a thought appeared in Blake’s head. ‘Maybe I should use the empty spot on my bloodline power to make a covenant with a space elemental demon.’

‘But where can I find such demons when Vera said they were very rare?’

Looking at his teacher that was intently observing his work from afar, another thought appeared in his mind. ‘Do I really have to find another demon to make the covenant though…?’

‘Robus and Cyra had been the closest people to me. It would only make sense that I choose someone that I’m comfortable to make a covenant with…’

‘But is it really okay to ask her that…?’

The subtle flapping sound that he heard before had now become loud enough to be ignored and drew Blake to raise his sight above.

The dark cloud that had been so far away now was only about a hundred meters away from him, as now Blake could see the vultures very clearly.

In large numbers, the flock of vultures did look intimidating as one could imagine themselves being pecked by hundreds of vultures with their large bodies that were almost the same size as yourselves.

But instead of being intimidated by them, Blake felt eagerness instead.

When you have nothing in your hands, you would feel annoyed and unsettled if mosquitoes started gathering around you. But when you have a mosquito racket in hand, that feeling of being the mosquito’s prey has suddenly disappeared as you felt like their hunter instead.

And in this case, the vultures were the group of mosquitoes while the rune formation combination was Blake’s racket.

Just like waiting for the perfect moment when the mosquitoes were in the racket’s range, Blake waited until the vultures were only about 30 meters away from him, a few flaps away from reaching the sky directly above the rune formation combination.

And when that moment happened, Blake quickly sent his nether through the extended runes, delivering his nether from him to the rune formation that was located away from him.

Blake was also not stingy with the nether he sent out as he made sure to send the same amount of nether that it would take to cast a second realm darkness spell, making sure that the rune formations would be able to manifest their spells at their strongest capabilities.

Blake had purposely timed it so that the moment most of the vultures were inside the whirlwind, the spell would have finished manifesting itself.

And with his calculation, of course, that was what happened.

The moment the hundreds of vultures flew above the whirlwind, the abundant nether that Blake sent out from his body arrived at the two rune formations, activating them both at the same time using the earlier runes that he had prepared beforehand.

The shine that the two rune formations emitted were not any less than blinding as the amount of nether that entered them enabled them to do so, making sure that whatever spell contained inside it was overcharged with enough nether for it to manifest to its full potential or even more.

The brief shining period of the rune formations then ended as soon as it started, releasing two spells that were twice the size of Robus’s huge body.

The barren lands that were absent of any signs of strong winds suddenly felt windy as the air all around the area was sucked into the top of the rune formations, creating the familiar whirlwind that Blake had seen before.

The process was subtle but was surely turned into a disaster soon as enough wind had gathered and it had become strong enough to pull in the vultures from the air, forcing them to spin around inside the whirlwind’s body that was over 30 meters tall.

The whirlwind certainly looked magnificent enough to be able to pull in hundreds of the vultures easily.

But just as Blake knew, the rune formation combination wasn’t done yet. The rune formation combination had two rune formations that manifested their spells into the world instead of only one.

The second rune formation wasn’t anything subtle like the whirlwind that ‘slowly’ built its strength up. The second rune formation debuted with a large boom as a pillar of fire, not any smaller than the whirlwind that it had spawned directly on, manifested itself into the world.

Albeit the explosive entrance of the flame pillar, the whirlwind wasn’t affected at all by it, and instead, it was the one that affected the flame pillar as the whirlwind started breaking down the flame pillar, integrating the tall pillar into itself as the ordinary whirlwind now had become something similar to a fire tornado.

The fire tornado didn’t waste a single second as it pulled in more vultures before turning them into a char, the mosquito racket that Blake created had done its job very well as the intimidating black cloud was sucked in by the red flaming fire tornado, dwindling it down as it slowly but surely becoming nonexistent.

Blake, who had gotten way out of the fire tornado’s way before it even finished manifesting, was watching the fire tornado with his eyes wide open and a proud smile plastered on his face.

It was a feat that he wasn’t capable of doing on his own before and he could only watch Vera do it.

The fire tornado wasn’t all his doing since the whirlwind was Vera’s rune formation, but Blake had contributed to at least 50% of the fire tornado that unfolded in front of him and ravaged his enemies as easily as if they were only common house flies.

“It seems I’ve gotten slightly stronger again…”
