Chapter 586: Giving Death Threats like Vegetables!
"Cough, Dr. Chen, my brother had a small accident seven years ago. He's only just fully recovered—" Wang Jiarong's brows knitted in subtle anger at Dr. Chen's shameless question, and she was about to continue when Wang Xiao interrupted.
"It's fine, let Dr. Chen speak," Wang Xiao said, his tone light but with a sharp edge. "I'm sure no one at home listens to him at all. With a rotten mouth like his, he must be feeling desperate for attention."
Gasp!
The others instantly covered their mouths in shock. Wang Jiarong stared at her brother, utterly stunned by his sudden lack of decorum. Just an hour ago, he had seemed calm and collected, his usual composed self. But now? She could only manage a wry smile. In truth, she had wanted to say something similar to this old windbag for a long time.
Wang Xiao had simply done her a favor by voicing it.
"You—" Dr. Chen's face flushed a deep red, choking on the water he had just sipped, his anger boiling over.
Wang Xiao smiled, casually extending his hand toward his sister.
"Ah?"
Wang Jiarong was caught off guard, her face flushing as Wang Xiao abruptly wrapped an arm around her slender waist. She blinked in surprise, unsure of his intentions as he turned to face the fuming Dr. Chen.
"Doctor, I think it would be best if you found someone more… suitable for your age," Wang Xiao said with a calm smile, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "We're not exactly looking for suitors for my sister at the moment. However, if you're truly insistent, there's not much we can do. It's just—" He paused, his smile sharpening. "—I have a history with accidents, you see.
Sometimes my car's brakes just… fail on their own. Does your car have the same problem, Doctor? Maybe we could exchange them?"
Pfft!
Wang Jiarong almost burst into laughter, barely managing to hold it in. She quickly composed herself, reminding herself that she was the older sister here.
Still, she had to admit—Wang Xiao had hit the nail on the head.
"Xiao Wang, what nonsense are you talking about!? Apologize to Dr. Chen," she scolded, though there was a faint trace of amusement in her voice as she lightly swatted his hand away from her waist.
Dr. Chen's face was as red as a boiled lobster, his chest rising and falling rapidly in barely contained fury. He opened his mouth to retort but found no words that could regain his dignity. Instead, he spluttered, "You… you arrogant brat! Do you think you can insult me and get away with it?"
Wang Xiao merely tilted his head, his smile never fading. "Insult you? No, no, Dr. Chen. I'm simply stating facts. A man of your… caliber surely understands the importance of honesty, right?
After all, I hear you're the paragon of virtue in your field." His tone dripped with mockery, and every word was like a thorn.
Wu Shenji, sitting stiffly at the table, exchanged an uneasy glance with Feng Xiyi. He could feel the anger radiating from Dr. Chen, and frankly, he wanted no part of it. Feng Xiyi, on the other hand, tried to suppress a smile.
Dr. Chen couldn't take it anymore. His face twisted with rage. "Humph! I'm leaving. I have important clients to attend to.
Jiarong, consider all your upcoming leaves canceled. We're expecting an influx of patients next month." His voice dripped with venom as he tried to lash out at Jiarong, taking his anger out on her.
Jiarong raised her brows in disbelief, stunned at the audacity. Before she could even react, Wang Xiao's calm but icy voice ecohed.
"Old foggy, mind my words," Wang Xiao said slowly, his tone chilling. "For every time you glance at my sister, one person in your family will die."
"!"
The canteen fell into stunned silence.
Dr. Chen's face drained of color as if the life had been sucked out of him. He opened his mouth, but no words came out, only a faint choking sound as his trembling hands clutched at his coat. He turned and stumbled out of the canteen, his pride shattered, leaving nothing but anxiety and anger.
"Shhh!" Wang Jiarong immediately covered Wang Xiao's mouth, her expression a mix of shock and panic. "Xiao Wang!? What are you doing? Giving death threats like that will get you in trouble!" Her eyes were wide with concern, searching his face for some sign of restraint.
Wang Xiao didn't resist, allowing her hand to linger. He found the softness of her touch oddly comforting, and for a moment, he was distracted by the depth of her worry-filled eyes.
She was beautiful—more than he remembered, the kind of beauty that he adored. Had she always been this striking, or had he simply never noticed?
Gently pulling her hand away, he gave her a reassuring smile. "It's fine, sister. No one can stop accidents from happening," he said, his voice calm, almost playful, though the underlying menace was clear as sky.
His words, however casual, sent a ripple of fear through the room.
Wu Shenji, who had been sitting frozen this whole time, was visibly shaken, his face pale and drenched in sweat.
Feng Xiyi, on the other hand, had gone completely rigid. Her body tensed as if trapped in a nightmare, memories of the pain and scars from seven years ago rushing back.
She had never fully recovered from what Wang Xiao had done to her.
Unable to bear the atmosphere any longer, Feng Xiyi grabbed Wu Shenji's hand tightly. "Excuse us, please," she muttered under her breath, before quickly standing up and all but dragging Wu Shenji with her, their departure hurried and filled with fear.
"..."
The table was now completely empty. Silence fell over the room, save for the faint rustling of the wind outside.
Wang Jiarong sighed deeply, rubbing her temples as if trying to relieve the headache that had suddenly formed. "You really have became too unrestrained , don't you, Xiao Wang?"
Wang Xiao, however, looked rather proud of his creation—
An empty table.
Finally, the bothersome crowd had scattered. Now it was just him and his sister, as it should be. "See? Now we can finally have a proper heart-to-heart talk," he said, sounding almost triumphant.
Wang Jiarong could only sigh again, holding her head.
She knew her brother too well.
However this wasn't just about clearing space for a conversation.
There was a deeper, more selfish intent behind his actions, one that she couldn't quite grasp yet.
She could not notice at all the way he looked at her, that possessiveness she hadn't seen before.
Wang Xiao, on the other hand, was immensely satisfied. He had no intention of letting anyone near her. The idea of her having a partner, creating a family, felt like unnecessary trouble. He preferred things the way they were—just the two of them. He had no patience for outsiders meddling in his carefully controlled world.
As much as they hadn't shared intimate conversations or moments in the past, he knew that needed to change.
His sister had to stay close.
But how? He wasn't sure yet.
Well, he had some ideas... but that required the right moment.
For now, though, this was enough.
