Chapter 23 - Their Mighty President
"So, what did I miss? Mind updating?" Abby asked as they walked ahead. She stopped walking and turned around to face them directly when she noticed her friends exchanging looks with each other. They all had an amusement dancing in their eyes. "Well?" She prodded, waiting for them to spill everything that happened in her absence.
"The heartthrob of SPALEV ... our very own Ace Hunter," Celine started, and every next word that came out of her mouth made Hera's heart skip a beat. It didn't help either that she's dragging and prolonging her statement to create a dramatic effect. "Has been elected as our new President, undisputed," Celine declared in a high pitch tone.
Hera rolled her eyes while Abby frowned in confusion. "What's new in that, Celine? He's always been the President. He's an undefeated King of SPALEV since forever," Abby stated, and she too rolled her eyes at the end.
Hera stopped at the bulletin board as some pictures caught her attention. There were different pictures of Hunter on the bulletin board. One with their Principal in the assembly presenting him the certificate and a trophy for being the topper last year. One more with the teachers in the auditorium congratulating him for being elected as the President of the student council. Another picture with their soccer team coach along with his team on the field. He's the captain of their soccer team.
Nothing was new though, as Abby said he'd been enjoying all these titles since forever.
"What's new? Okay, let me spell it for you. It's new because this year as we're entering high school, we come under the direct rule of our Mighty President, Mr Ace Hunter," Andrew spoke, tone filled with absolute frustration. That revelation hit Hera hard. With a short, sudden intake of breath, she bit her lip as Andrew uttered those words out loud. Her breath caught in her throat as Hunter's piercing eyes sliced hers through the picture.
In their school every year there would be an election to elect members of the student council, starting from Grade Six to Grade Eight" for middle school and "Grade Nine to Grade Twelve" for high school. Three students from each Grade would get elected to the student council as President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Class Representatives, etc.
Hunter had always been the President and no points for guessing it there. Because it's obvious, he had been that much popular among students as well as teachers since day one.
Since Hunter was three years senior to Hera, she never came under his control when he was the President of middle school. Unfortunately, now, as she was a High School Fresher, the Devil would definitely make her life a living hell.
"Oh, fuck my life," Hera said, turning her back to the bulletin board and let out a sigh of defeat. She glared daggers at her friends when they all laughed at her expense. Asher wrapped his arm around her shoulder, pulling her to him sideways and tried to console her. "Oh, come on. It can't be that bad, Hera. We're with you on this," he said in a soft voice, tone filled with pity, but the smirk plastered on his face told otherwise.
'Oh, he's enjoying this too much.'
She pushed him off her and stood in the corner, scowling. Abby continued to go through the bulletin board, and she spun around to face Hera. Her lips pulled inwards, forming a thin line before she opened them to speak.
"Hera, Bianca is his Secretary," Abby said.
Hera's shoulders slumped, and she groaned out of frustration. "Oh, wow! Just the thing I needed right now. I'm so damn lucky." She said, smiling. Her friends shared a quiet laugh at her sarcasm, not wanting to piss her off. The irony of the situation only made Hera realise just how horrible her life this year was going to be.
Her personal Satan would rule her life and to top it all, one of his best friends, and the Evil Queen, Bianca the Bitch was the new Secretary.
'Could High School be any better?'
"And Danny is the VP," Abby announced much to Hera's dismay. Hera scoffed. "He wasn't even present here to participate in the election, for God's sake," she spoke in disapproval. Jarred filled in the info for her, it seemed teachers nominated Danny's name since they could choose their favourite students as candidates in their absence. And of course, Danny had won.
Hera glanced at the bulletin board one last time before taking off. She thought it enough already, and the load of books she's carrying sucked all the strength out of her. She just wanted to get rid of them. Hence their next destination was the large locker hall. Abby and Hera quickly found their lockers with their friends' help and dumped their books into it before they marched towards their dorm.
"Oh, my God!" Hera exclaimed out loud as soon as they entered the new Block of Dormitory meant only for the High School students. Her eyes were bathing in the pure beauty of her surroundings. Not that the Block made for Middle Schoolers was any less in comparison, but this one looked way more improvised in a better way.
"I know, right?" They heard themselves unanimously agreeing on the mutual feelings about the view in front of their eyes, and they laughed together, jumping up in overjoy. They walked further into the building, examining everything around them until they reached their dorm room.
The building had separate blocks for boys and girls. They showed Hera the community hall for watching TV, a gym, a big library, and of course Hera's favourite Kitchen along with a spacious dining hall.
Everything looked so neat and shiny around them. Obviously, Mr and Mrs Rogers were known for their discipline, hygienic Kitchen and nutritious yet delicious cooking. Mr Jacob Rogers was in charge of the Dormitory, and his wife Roseline Rogers was the head of the food department. They were a sweet couple in their forties. But if anyone broke the rules, he or she would get to witness the exact opposite of sweet. Nobody would dare get on their wrong side.
After thoroughly inspecting every minute detail of the surroundings, the boys agreed to wait in the community hall until they come back to them since they were not allowed in the Girls' Block without Mr Rogers' permission. Hera and her friends finally reached their room.
