Chapter 674: I’m afraid I won’t be able to carry my Ranran anymore.

Wen Ran watched the change in expression on Shen Yuting’s face, pursed her lips and said softly, “Sister Ting, Jiang Liu called me this morning.”

She didn’t know how to persuade Shen Yuting, nor did she know whether it was a misunderstanding between her and Jiang Liu, or whether Jiang Liu had really done something to wrong Shen Yuting.

Shen Yuting was not a naïve young girl; she and Jiang Liu began dating not initially because of love, but perhaps more because Jiang Liu bore some resemblance to Mo Xiuchen.

Having started like this, it’s surprising they lasted several months, with her trying to love him. This implies that she at least should have known that Jiang Liu was not a man without a past, even if she did not fully understand him.

She wouldn’t want to break up with him just because he had a thing with Cheng Jia, it’d have to be more serious than that.

Shen Yuting looked at Wen Ran with surprise. She didn’t expect Jiang Liu to call Wen Ran. How dare he call Wen Ran?

“Ranran, don’t listen to anything he tells you, understand?”

Shen Yuting’s voice held repressed emotions. Wen Ran’s eyes flickered, overflowing with concern, “Sister Ting, Jiang Liu said that you have some misunderstandings about him, probably with Cheng Jia. I don’t know whether he’s telling the truth, but from the phone call, I could tell he’s very anxious.”

Shen Yuting scoffed, “Of course he’s anxious. He still wants to use me to get more information to tell Cheng Jia.”n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Wen Ran was shocked, “Sister Ting, he’s using you?”

She didn’t fully understand what Shen Yuting meant, but with Cheng Jia involved, she could guess somewhat. What Cheng Jia wanted to know was probably about Mo Xiuchen.

Shen Yuting nodded but didn’t want to continue. Just then, she heard an announcement over the loudspeaker and said calmly, “Ranran, let’s go pick up Xiuchen and Ah Mu. I’ll tell you everything afterward.”

“Okay!”

Seeing that she didn’t want to continue, Wen Ran stopped asking.

Even though she had just seen Mo Xiuchen in D Country a couple days ago, at this moment, seeing him come out of the security check, Wen Ran’s heart skipped a beat and then started pounding like it was about to burst from her chest.

Across the crowd, Mo Xiuchen’s deep gaze locked onto hers. The moment their eyes met, everything, everyone else disappeared from her sight. All she could see was the man she deeply loved.

Wen Ran tightly pursed her lips, ignoring the warmth that washed over her like a tidal wave. She was helpless to stop her eyes from welling up. As his handsome face gradually came into focus, it became more blurred.

She was engulfed by a pair of familiar, warm arms. His low, gentle whisper in her ear, “Ranran!”

Wen Ran’s heart quivered. All she felt was sharp pain when she wrapped her hands tightly around his noticeably thinner waist.

Mo Xiuchen felt Wen Ran’s fingers stiffen around his waist, his heart tightened, his large hand gently caressed her hair, and he softly said, “Ranran, I missed you so much that I lost weight.”

Wen Ran’s tears burst forth at his attempt to cover up the truth.

She tried to control her tears, but it was all in vain. Once they started flowing, it was like a breached dam, utterly irretrievable.

All she could do was clamp her lips tight, preventing herself from crying out loud. She kept telling herself, Wen Ran, you mustn’t cry, you shouldn’t cry. If you behave this way, you’ll only encourage Xiuchen to continue hiding his illness.

But she was helpless.

Just like being unable not to feel heartache, she forgot they were at the airport. Her tears wet the fabric of his shirt.

“Ranran, there are so many people around. If you want to cry, wait until we get home.”

A soft sigh resounded in her ears, followed by Mo Xiuchen’s teasing words, concealing his heartache, but unable to hide a hint of compassion.

Wen Ran managed to smile through her tears, lifting up her teary eyes and said, “Who told you to make yourself thin?”

Mo Xiuchen’s lips curled into a helpless smile. His large hand caressed her face, his rough fingertips gently wiping away her tears, he admitted with self-reproach, “I’m the one at fault. I shouldn’t have lost so much weight, only to make you cry when I returned.”

Off to the side, Gu Kai, Qin Mu, and Shen Yuting did not dare to speak, just quietly watching them. Each of them was feeling a complex mix of emotions.

Wen Ran cast an annoyed look at him, and she said domineeringly and unreasonably, “It is indeed your fault. You have to promise me that you won’t lose any more weight.”

“Okay, I promise you, I won’t lose anymore weight.”

After a pause, he leaned in to whisper in her ear softly, “If I lose any more weight, I’m afraid I won’t be able to carry my Ranran.”

Wen Ran’s face turned red all at once.

His words ‘my Ranran’ caused tears to well up in her eyes again.

In the end, Shen Yuting cancelled her initial plan to invite Ranran to a meal. As they were leaving the airport, they saw Qing Feng and Qing Yang who had come to pick up Mo Xiuchen.

Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran got into their car, while Gu Kai drove Shen Yuting and Qin Mu.

“Xiuchen, Ranran hasn’t seen you in a while. She probably doesn’t want to have dinner with us, you guys go home first. I’ll take Ah Mu and Yuting home.”

Mo Xiuchen let Wen Ran get into the car first. Standing in front of the car now, he only nodded slightly at Gu Kai’s words without saying anything, and then bent down to get into the car.

“Xiuchen, you must be tired from such a long flight. Close your eyes and rest for a while. When we get home, I’ll wake you up.”

As soon as they hit the road, Wen Ran advised him gently. She hadn’t completely calmed down yet and just wanted to lean on him quietly, satisfied to know he was by her side.

If they talked, she couldn’t guarantee she wouldn’t impulsively say something she shouldn’t.

From his casual ‘missed you so much I lost weight,’ she knew that he still wasn’t willing to tell her, let alone let her fight this disease with him.

Her heart ached terribly, but if he didn’t want to talk about it, she couldn’t either.

Mo Xiuchen smiled warmly at her. Having not seen her for so many days, he couldn’t bring himself to look away from her or close his eyes and sleep. His hand that was casually draped over her shoulder played with a lock of her long hair and he said gently, “Ranran, your hair has grown longer again.”

Wen Ran nodded, her face calm and her smile gentle, “Yes, my hair has grown longer. Since you left for City C, you’ve been gone for more than twenty days.”

“Have I been gone that long?”

Mo Xiuchen’s eyes twinkled in surprise, his handsome face showing a hint of astonishment, but in his heart, he remembered it very clearly.

Wen Ran nodded, “Of course, the outside world must be very tempting. You must have had so much fun that you lost track of time.”
