Chapter 91 085 Invitation
```
In an inconspicuous but exquisitely designed creative bookstore in the Imperial Capital, Han Jiaxue was behind the beverage counter, mixing a cup of milk tea. This was one of the Han Family's businesses in the Imperial Capital, originating from a prosperous county-level city in Jiangnan.
Although the Han Family's business spanned several provinces and cities, they also had operations in the Imperial Capital. Two years ago, they opened this creative bookstore, modeled somewhat after Siwei Island's Sincerity Bookstore, with books at its core, combined with leisure dining and the sale of niche audio-visual products.
This bookstore's founding was inseparably linked to Han Jiaxue; it was her idea and her first entrepreneurial project soon after finishing high school. Even though she was in the United States, she often explored the North American book market, importing some of the better books, comics, and records back to China.
After parting with Bai Zhongqi, Han Jiaxue stayed at her home in Su Province for a few days. Since her parents mainly lived in the Imperial Capital, she went there as well. Han Jiaxue kept herself busy with work so that she wouldn't think about the terrifying incidents that had happened before.
She couldn't help but glance at the woman sitting at a small table not far away, dressed in sharp professional attire, with her black sunglasses placed on the table and a fashion magazine in her hands that she flipped through absentmindedly. When Han Jiaxue's gaze came her way, the woman immediately became aware, nodding slightly to Han Jiaxue as a greeting.
The woman was a female bodyguard assigned to her by Bai Zhongqi, always mysterious and not very talkative. Yet, she seemed particularly formidable; she was almost always at Han Jiaxue's side, no matter where Han Jiaxue went, the bodyguard was there.
After serving milk tea to a customer, Han Jiaxue sat back behind the counter. Since her arrival at the bookstore, business had improved slightly. The young lady boss's looks and figure were both top-notch, attracting some self-perceived decent young and even middle-aged men who would come to chat her up and ask for her number.
Whenever such situations arose, the bodyguard would step forward to intervene. If anyone expressed dissatisfaction, the bodyguard could easily throw the unwanted suitor out of the store in no time.
Just now, a city-dwelling muscular guy, who obviously frequented the gym, came over to try his luck. The bodyguard stepped forward to warn him not to harass her, and when the guy retorted that he was just trying to make friends in a friendly manner, she "kindly" grabbed the back of his shirt collar with one hand, and escorted the 1.8-meter tall muscular guy out of the bookstore.
Han Jiaxue felt helpless, knowing that this kind of thing wasn't great for business, but it did bring a lot of peace. She didn't plan to turn the bookstore into a gold mine, she just hoped for a place where people like her who enjoyed reading books and relaxing in the afternoon could find a place to unwind.
Perhaps because of the bodyguard's presence, the bookstore had become especially popular with female customers lately. Han Jiaxue was very good at socializing, and even though she was beautiful, she didn't draw resentment from other women. With the butterflies kept at bay by the bodyguard, many female customers found the bookstore a very pleasant place to spend time.
"Ah, I'm so envious of you, uncle Han spoils you so much, even getting you a bodyguard. My old man is just not the same, his heart is all on my brothers, and I have no status at home at all."
Turning her head, Han Jiaxue saw her childhood friend and close girlfriend, Zhao Wenling. The two grew up together as close friends. However, since Han Jiaxue was extremely beautiful from a young age, Zhao Wenling, though pretty in her own right, didn't compare.
"Zhuangzhuang, you're here," Han Jiaxue greeted her friend with a happy smile.
Zhao Wenling's nickname was Zhuangzhuang, given by her parents from her childhood, and she had always been called that. It's unclear if there was any efficacy in calling her that so often, but Zhao Wenling was also slightly overweight, though she wasn't chubby and could be considered part of the slightly chubby crowd.
Fortunately, she was fairly attractive and came from a well-off family, so she wasn't lacking in male suitors.
"Jiajia, ever since you came back to the country, you've been holed up in this store and not coming out to hang out with us, which is really not cool. The weather has been so good these days, and there's no smog either. Yesterday, I went back to our neighbourhood. A bunch of old ladies had divided into two groups and were having a dance-off at the plaza outside our community.
Oh my, those old ladies were just like the mafia, fighting over dancing territory. I definitely don't want to get old; square dancing is so hard, better to just stick to clubbing honestly."
```
Han Jiaxue listened to Zhao Wenling's gibberish and was amused, saying, "My biological clock is pretty much like an old person's now, I can't keep up with these things you young people enjoy with my old arms and legs."n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Zhao Wenling reached over to hug Han Jiaxue's slim waist and swore, "Damn, has this little waist of yours gotten even thinner? So annoying. It's a good thing I have more to offer, otherwise, if I went out with you, I couldn't hook up with anyone."
Han Jiaxue had no choice but to expose her shortcoming, "Are they really anyone worth catching? Once you find a boyfriend, you're all about spending heart, soul, and wallet on them—a new outfit from Versace, a couple of Prada belts. You're the real catch here."
Zhao Wenling didn't feel embarrassed but giggled, "I'm not at a loss, you know. The guys I date are all handsome, so it's worth the money for the good looks."
Han Jiaxue was helpless with her childhood friend. After high school, Han Jiaxue went to study in the United States, while Zhao Wenling attended an arts college in the Imperial Capital and became wilier as time went on, often getting duped by men with ulterior motives.
Han Jiaxue had gotten angry with her childhood friend several times because of this, but after Zhao Wenling cried and promised to better herself, she would often slip up again.
Zhao Wenling tugged at her, trying to pull her away and said, "Let's go, stop being that charming lady boss of yours in the store. The place is full of girls and ladies, nothing interesting. I want to introduce you to a handsome guy, a true tall, rich, and handsome fellow, and his family in the Imperial Capital is really influential, quite extraordinary."
Han Jiaxue pushed Zhao Wenling's hand away, saying, "If you like handsome guys, you go. I have a boyfriend."
"Liar, as your bestie, I have never seen this boyfriend of yours. How is that possible? Come on, just accompany me, that guy is really not bad."
Han Jiaxue still refused; she was not good at handling such situations and was even less interested in the so-called tall, rich, and handsome men. She was only true to her feelings. She said, "I really have a boyfriend! o(≧口≦)o"
Zhao Wenling still wouldn't give up, pulling her and saying, "Even if you have a boyfriend, it's as if you don't since he's never around. You haven't hung out with me since you came back, do you not take me seriously? It's not what you think, these people are all decent. We'll just go to have a meal, sing some songs, and if you don't have fun, I'll come back with you, alright?"
Seeing Han Jiaxue silently considering, Zhao Wenling knew she was wavering and kept begging, leaving Han Jiaxue exasperated.
In the end, Han Jiaxue could only say, "Just this once, and only in public places."
Zhao Wenling's eyes gleamed, saying, "Public places, it is!"
"And I'm bringing my boyfriend."
"What?"
