Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle

Chapter 431 The Memory Spheres

Shane didn't expect that they would find something around the area. After all, he had also patrolled this place, but he had failed to find any signs of the secret door that they'd mentioned.

'Maybe it was sealed until after the third Zombie Wave?' Shane mused to himself. He found it reasonable since the system seemed to be capable of doing just that.

"Good call… That place could be very dangerous. We'll need some preparations before thinking of opening that door. However, we should ensure that no one gets to discover that place. Let's cover it up first." Shane said as he considered who to inform to ensure that no one would stumble on it again.

"We already covered it up with dirt and leaves. It shouldn't be obvious for now." Ibrahim reminded.

"Alright… I'll just send two elves to guard the area then…" Shane muttered as he gave a few instructions to Mew, the leader of the miners.

Then, he continued to walk outside the mine to inform the elves…

"Did you notice anything else, like signs or any words on it?" Shane asked the two.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

Ibrahim and Tieria looked at each other before shaking their heads.

"We didn't notice anything."

Shane could only nod at this.

"Mhmm… If it's one of those labs, then it might have advanced security—or worse, deadly traps. We'll need to check it out soon but with a full team and the right gear." He paused for a moment as his gaze drifted toward the mine walls, lost in thought.

"In the meantime, let's keep it under wraps. We don't want anyone stumbling into it unprepared."

Shane said as he soon called the elves and informed them of the situation. Then, Ibrahim guided the two elves to the location.

Ibrahim felt a surge of excitement. After all, it hasn't been long since he had entered the shelter and he felt that he was already contributing a lot.

Furthermore, the sense of accomplishment for uncovering something as mysterious as a hidden lab sent a shiver down his spine. Though it might not be a laboratory at all, just the thought of it made him look forward to the day they'll explore it.

He actually respected Shane's caution in this matter since they only have a single life. They couldn't be careless in handling this matter. There was no telling what dangers might be lying in wait beneath that metal door.

"Once we finish reinforcing the defenses here in our camp, we'll prepare a scouting team," Shane said, giving a final nod.

No matter what, their main task for the next few days was to ensure that their camp was fortified.

After all, aside from the lurking Zombies, there were still threats from Wild Shelters and from Statham the Vampire.

The rest of the group agreed to Shane and made their way back to their tasks…

This time, however, Shane decided to visit his room as he finally decided to absorb all the Memory Spheres he had obtained.

He hadn't done so yet since he had been very busy and barely had enough time to rest.

Thankfully, the situation had already somewhat stabilized. Furthermore, since they might be exploring something dangerous beyond that metal door, he might need other skills.

After entering this room, Vale decided to open his current status.

He actually didn't expect to level up once again after consuming the instant experience potions he obtained.

Anyway, from level 38 to level 47, he obtained various rewards like gift packs, vouchers, tax-free transactions in the market, and many other system-related items aside from the stat increase for leveling up.

This morning, he even obtained all of the items being sold in the Survivor Store and Reputation Store for free because of the reward he obtained after reaching level 40.

He obtained more firearms, pills, MREs, Zombie Lures, and some kitchenware in the Survivor Store, while in the Reputation Store, he was able to obtain the vials or ampules that made him recall the drug he used for the Super Soldiers in the Springriver Manor.

At first, he wasn't too sure about it with its short description in the store. However, since it's free at the moment, he was able to obtain five pieces of them, and soon, he got access to its full description.

This item was incredible, but the debuff that makes the person hungry most of the time was quite a problem, especially for shelters without a steady source of food. Thankfully, Shane doesn't have to worry about that with his current wealth and the resources they have.

Anyway, Shane finally relaxed in his room after washing his body.

Then, Shane held the 16th of 25 Memory Spheres in his inventory.

Soon, he saw the familiar notification he was familiar with.

[ Do you wish to absorb the Memory Sphere? ]

"Yes…"

With a nod, the world around him seemed to blur, and just like before, his vision was swallowed by a wave of fragmented images.

The memories spiraled back, converging on his time in the A.I. Rebellion Apocalypse…

This time, Shane had already confirmed the locations of various main headquarters of the Anima. They had a total of 12 main spaceships that were like a fortress in themselves, its sole purpose to enforce the Anima's iron grip over the planet.

As Shane settled into the memory, he found himself standing within the range of Izzet, one of these twelve immense spaceships.

It was docked at the North Pole, and it wasn't hidden at all. Its surface was filled with bright nodes and light-like frequencies that were pulsating faintly as if they were channeling some sort of energy.

Shane immediately learned his mission as the memories came in like a flood in his mind. He actually had to take down Izzet's energy core. With this, the Anima would lose one of its critical foothold, and humanity would gain a rare glimmer of hope.

The memory continued as he infiltrated and entered halls of the ship.

In this mission, while the main force of the human army was buying some time for him, he had to successfully destroy his target.

He was alone, with no backup and limited resources. All he had was an Ether Cloak, a stolen artifact crafted by a race once enslaved by the Anima. With it, he could evade detection, but it was a fragile reprieve. Even a single misstep could trigger the automated sentries and robotic enforcers patrolling the ship.

Carefully, he moved down the corridor, shrouded by the Ether Cloak's invisibility.

As he rounded a corner, he saw another group of enemies. They were sentries with sleek metallic frames. Humanoid Androids, as they call.

Shane held his breath as he slipped past them undetected. He couldn't even bring any piece of a modern device with him aside from this cloak. Well, if he did, he would be detected without a doubt.

It was such a frustrating task, but there was no one else who could pull this off besides him.

Anyway, Shane continued moving, avoiding patrols and bypassing laser grids as he neared the heart of Izzet.

The memory was quite long, but Shane liked it a lot as he learned more about how good he was before.

Finally, he reached the main core chamber after a series of challenges.

'So it's like that...'

Through the reinforced glass, he was able to see it—the Energy Core. Although the protection seemed careless with the Energy Core, Shane knew that this was just a trap.

Anyway, Shane observed the massive orb of light, surrounded by golden ducts and wires that powered one of Anima's operations on Earth.

Nonetheless, Shane knew that destroying this Core couldn't just be done by using force… With the things he learned over the past year, Shane learned how to disrupt the core's energy flow and make it self-destruct.

Then, as he looked above the door of the core chamber, he read its name, Cloud's Chamber.

It seemed to be the name of the Core itself.
