Chapter 89: New
The woman's strength was higher than they expected.
It wasn't surprising for Shane since he knew that the woman's strength had increased because of their leveling system. It was also not surprising if she was able to obtain some Strength Enhancing Potions from the Zombies or from the Survivor Store.
"Let's not worry about them for now…" Shane muttered as he observed the battle.
The larger Survivor roared, a sound that echoed through the trees, and charged.
It seemed to be an advanced Survivor Skill!
'I want that skill too…' Shane couldn't help but think of this ability. It was probably some kind of Lion's Roar Skill or something similar.
Nonetheless, after that roar of that Survivor, the scavengers scattered, but not quickly enough. The club being held by the huge man found its mark again and again, each hit sounding with a sickening crunch.
Shane frowned at this sight… Although he had been stained by the blood of other people already, he couldn't really help but pity those who were losing in the battle.
Ha~
Shane sighed as he realized that this was not a battle—it was a slaughter. The survivors were not just defending themselves; they were decimating the scavengers.
He couldn't really blame the Survivors since these scavengers had even dared to steal from his shelter before.
'Should I stop them? After all, these Scavengers weren't their match at all.' Shane mused, but in the end, he had no idea why they fought with each other.
He knew he could end the fight with a single sweep of his blade, but he hesitated for a moment…
"Tsk…"
Despite his past grievances with the Scavengers, Shane's conscience stirred at the sight of the impending execution of the skilled Scavengers—a black-haired woman and a man whose cybernetic left arm spoke of battles he survived.
'To let them perish here would be a waste of talent…' Shane contemplated, his thoughts turning to the ampules in his possession.
With those, he could transform the Scavengers into formidable allies. With this in mind, he surged forward with a swift movement. His presence was immediately known as he didn't hide his movements at all.
He wanted the two Survivors to notice that they had another opponent to deal with!
"Hmmm? So you finally appeared."
"I knew it… I can't tell where you are, but I can feel that someone's staring at me…"
The two survivors weren't completely caught off guard by Shane's sudden appearance.
Their eyes even gleamed with a mix of surprise and newfound excitement after confirming that he was alone!
"This is great! A Survivor! I hope I'll get a Survivor Skill from your corpse later!" The larger of the two declared, brandishing a spiked club.
"Haha! Nice timing!" The other chimed in, her blade reflecting a predatory smile.
'Oh… So they know that killing Survivors can drop Survivor Skills, huh… They must be lucky to obtain one before.'
"Stop this now… I'll be taking care of these two Scavengers…" Shane said…
"No way, we will be taking all your stuffs! They must be Rare Items!" The woman said as she could tell that Shane's items were expensive!
In her mind, Shane was probably lucky enough to purchase them in the Survivor Store!
Shane couldn't help but frown as he confirmed that the battle against the was inevitable…
"Fine! Let me teach you a lesson…"
The battle that ensued wasn't as easy as Shane thought… Nonetheless, he was confident that he could win!
Shane's Electric Shock Blade crackled with energy as he parried and struck the club-wielding Survivor!
Bang!
To his surprise, there was some sort of unnatural force that pushed him back upon contact with the club…
This was shocking since he should have a higher Strength Stat than this person!
'Ahh… Is it the knockback effect?!' Shane's eyes lit up as he recalled this effect appearing in some other weapons.
Anyway, even though the survivors were skilled, Shane was on a completely different level, his blade hummed through the air, leaving arcs of blue lightning in its wake!
The larger Survivor swung his club with brute force, aiming to crush Shane's defenses. But Shane was quick, ducking under the swing and countering with a thrust that sent a jolt of electricity coursing through the man's body.
"Aaargghhhh! A tazer sword! Be careful, Eve!"
The Survivor staggered, his muscles seizing in the grip of the electric shock.
Eve, the man's partner, didn't miss the opportunity as she charged forward… Her strikes were sharp and relentless.
However, Shane's Traceless Breath, Lesser Shadowmeld, and Shadow Blend, made him a wraith in the fray, his form flickering in and out of sight as he evaded her blade.
"Y-you… What kind of skill are you using?! This is unfair!" The woman shouted as she gritted her teeth…
He could sense her frustration growing with each missed strike.
Shane's strategy was not to maim but to disarm, to show the survivors that their opponent was beyond their reckoning.
That's right! He was also planning to take them to his side!
He aimed to disarm, not to dismember, to demonstrate that their adversary was beyond their measure. With a deft maneuver, he disarmed the woman, her blade flying from her grasp and embedding itself in a nearby tree.
Thud!
"This…"
The survivors, now weaponless and breathless, faced Shane with a newfound fear and a hint of respect.
They could tell that Shane could already kill them, but he seemed to have something else in mind.
"Enough…" Shane commanded, his voice carrying a serious tone that they couldn't disobey…
The survivors, recognizing the futility of further combat, nodded…
Their eyes were still wide with the shock of their unexpected defeat.
"We were just joking… We don't plan to kill and loot you… We just wanted to survive…" The female Survivor said.
"Really now?" Shane muttered. There was no way he would believe them.
The black-haired woman and the cybernetic-armed man looked at Shane with a mixture of fear and awe. "Who are you?" The woman asked, her voice steady despite the circumstances.
"It doesn't matter…" Shane replied and thought for a moment.
Shane then offered them a choice, a chance at a new beginning.
"Join my camp…" Shane said. He wasn't planning to bring up the ampules yet.
"W-we can still join you?! T-then, please allow the two of us to be part of your camp…"
"We will work hard for you!"
The two Survivors immediately agreed to this offer since they also wanted to be in a Shelter! Surviving outside was just too difficult!
However, Shane wouldn't trust them so easily as he planned to use the ampules on them as well. Although they looked submissive now, he had no idea what kind of plan they had in their minds. It was better to be safe! He just has to pretend that he already trusted them.
Shane then turned to the two injured Scavengers and made an offer.
The scavengers exchanged a glance, the possibility of a different path sparking in their eyes.
They didn't hesitate to accept the offer since that was their only chance of surviving. They knew they'd be killed once they rejected the offer!

In a stadium that was transformed into a Survivor Camp, Travis was standing at the highest seat looking at his territory…
His skin was shimmering with scales that glinted like emeralds in the sun.
The Legendary Talent called Dragon's Blood coursed through his veins, rendering him impervious to the gnashing teeth of low-tier zombies. Only mid-tier zombies could possibly hurt him!
As a half-dragon, he was a beacon of hope and strength in the eyes of the many Survivors in this camp…
With a satisfied gaze, Travis surveyed his four trusted companions, each a battle-hardened survivor. One of them was even someone he knew from Earth…
His name was Anthony and with him, the control over the camp had gotten a lot easier.
Together, they had amassed the necessary resources: 100 Zombie Cores and 5 Reputation Points—a small fortune in this Apocalypse World.
Now, It was time to forge a new legacy, to create a Clan that would stand as a pillar in the chaos!
"Kukuku… I should be the first one to create a Clan! Let's do this!" Travis muttered as he triggered the Clan Feature of the Apocalypse System.
Soon, he was asked by the System to name the Clan.
Travis pondered the name, seeking one that would encapsulate their spirit and their bond.
After a moment of contemplation, it came to him, as clear as the roar of dragonfire.
"We shall be known as the Drakeheart Vanguard…" He declared, and his comrades nodded in agreement, the name resonating with their shared purpose.
He entered the name into the System… Then, notifications appeared on the four people beside him, confirming that they were part of Travis's Clan formation and agreeing that he was the Guild Leader.
After the four others confirmed, the air hummed with the magic of registration.
A chime sounded, and a voice echoed in his mind:
[ Congratulations, Clan Leader Travis of the Drakeheart Vanguard! ]
