Chapter 114: Chapter 114 – Night time

After searching for a while, he found the group in front of the warehouse. They seemed to try to find him as well.

"I will go along with your plan this time, chat," Max muttered as he approached the others, apologizing for getting separated. He told them that he daydreamed and actually entered an alleyway by mistake.

Everyone accepted his excuses, but Flexy kept poking fun at him while they looted the warehouse.

"Hehe, don't get separated again. You can hold my hand if you want to."

"Gross!"

"Eh, I tried to be nice even though you left me behind. I guess you don't want it."

"Guys, keep looting. We need to move fast and upgrade our shelter to level 2 today." StoneSword reprimanded them from afar. Lily only giggled when she watched what Max and Flexy did.

Their looting simulator continued. They defeated some zombies in their looting quest, but strangely, they didn't even encounter any Infected. It seemed like their spawn rate was low in the first 15 days. But low didn't mean impossible. Max's world was filled with them, and he found 3 in just 2 days.

— You just have a pretty lucky seed, finding 3 Infected in just 3 days

— lolol, you also had 2 heavy loot areas in 2 days. Look at this seed. You haven't found one yet

— Your luck is out of the world. But with luck, danger also follows!

— In short, you're a go-to-lucky person! I don't know whether I made sense or not!

— Danger loves you

The chat's explanation made Max roll his eyes. What was luck, he wondered, if it was accompanied by dangers far worse than usual.

Looting the warehouse was easy. Unlike the one in Max's server, this one was only filled with zombies. They dealt with the zombies easily, using only knives. Only Flexy had two handguns, mainly because he had lost all his items from dying on day 1.

It was the heaven for woods and planks. Some Scraps could be obtained from this place too. They quickly took them back to the shelter before finding other places to raid.

Max wondered why they didn't just find Ruins and raid it. The answer came unexpectedly from Flexy.

"Do you want to die? Ruins are filled with Infected. We won't even step onto the second floor without proper defensive equipment, gas masks, and good weapons! There are many traps, unlike the open world."

He said. Then, a smirk appeared on his face.

"But if you want to die so badly, let's find a Ruin! You will go first, of course."

"Heh, even if I go first, I can dodge all the traps easily. I am worried that you might mess up and put us all in danger, so let's not go to Ruins."

Both of them were still in a situation where they bit each other's back. But everyone knew it was just for content's sake. They secretly communicate with their expressions, giving each other instructions.

Even if they only knew each other for a few days, their understanding of each other made it as if they had been friends for years.

Other than a warehouse, they also split up to find some materials from an abandoned construction area. It was filled with debris, but according to StoneSword, shelter materials could be found there.

Lily only moved slightly and didn't really make any big movements. She was already tired from playing for 2 hours due to her high SR.

Everyone was worried, but she said she wanted to pass the night time before finishing. She was also a streamer and wanted to do this wholeheartedly.

They managed to get enough material to upgrade the shelter to level 2 just before the night arrived. The gray sky turned black. Birds chirped loudly, flapping their wings away to find safe places.

A gust of wind passed through, bringing a foul smell of decayed flesh. Nothing was safe. As night time was when the undead and Infected rose and awoke.

"Are you guys ready?"

The leader of the party, StoneSword, asked the others as they stood in front of their now slightly larger shelter. The others nodded their heads. Lily wasn't too spirited because of her exhaustion.

"Night time is dangerous. We may meet Infecteds anytime. There is no safe area except for the shelter. But some Infected can follow us back to the shelter unless we shake them off or kill them. They are the most annoying enemies in this game. If you meet them, shake them off first before returning."

"Got it." Max acknowledged the instruction.

'Run away and don't get the shelter involved.'

That was basically what StoneSword told them.

'Infected that chase after players, huh? So the one the chat told me about is one of them.' He thought as he moved with the group.

This time, Lily was next to him. He was trusted to keep her safe and matched her pace.

But that was just an excuse. He knew that she was asked to watch over him. He wasn't trusted anymore to watch their back after what he did to Flexy and the fact he disappeared once when they went to the warehouse.

No street light or a flashlight. This was the worst night time exploration ever. But they did this to find weapons and possibly also a flashlight if they were lucky.

Their pace was slower than when they went out at day time.

"Please make as little sound as possible. Most Infected that are active at night can hear better. They will come for you if you make a loud noise." StoneSword warned by whispering. "And, Flexy. Don't use the gun if possible."

"Sure!" Flexy nodded in understanding. "There is also Breeze, who is good with knives. We can leave any enemies to him, right?" He turned around to find his friend.

When he did that, he realized that only Lily remained.

"Huh?" He let out a confused voice. "What the… Where the hell is Breeze?"

"What's happened?" StoneSword asked and turned around. He looked at his sister and asked, "Where is Breeze?"

Lily looked back at her brother and tilted her head. "He said he found some loot and hasn't returned since then. It's been 3 minutes."

"Could it be that he separated himself from us?" Flexy asked. He had a bad feeling about this.

"Or maybe he was just lost. There is no light and it's easy to lose us," StoneSword responded.

"No… I think he hides from us purposely. I don't believe that he got lost. Not again." Flexy looked around the area and shrugged his shoulders, "Breeze might have planned something. That guy must've wanted revenge for what we did to him! He's so petty!"

"But what is he planning?" StoneSword added, letting out a sigh, "Well, as long as he did nothing dangerous, we should just continue looting. If he dies, he will respawn on day 3."

"Right. We just need to be more careful than before."

"Un." Lily also agreed. "Let's continue."

Having said that, the three of them continued walking.

In a location a bit away from them, Max pulled his head back and smiled. He had heard their conversation. His lips curled up into a smile.

"It's going according to the plan." He muttered.

— Phase 1 success

— Now go to phase 2!

— Still… You're so nasty planning something like this.

— Are you planning to kill all of them? Including LilyPixel?

— Truly, a villain. This arc will end soon with the biggest disaster

— She will die a noble death.

"You're right, guys." He shrugged his shoulders, "Sacrifices are inevitable. I only hope she won't get mad at me."

He entered the back alley and began to move quietly, following the group while maintaining a reasonable distance so he wouldn't be found out.

"Let's end this villain arc with a wicked epilogue."
