Chapter 149: Chapter 149 – Ranked Match

Max sighed after reading the reply and unpinned his chat with SinSanSon. Without a secondary editor, he could only count on BloodSucker.

And it didn't take long for his fan to reply.

[BloodSucker: Can we do $3,000 a month? I will edit a video daily and have a special one once a week.]

It seemed like the goddess was still smiling at him.

[Breeze: Let's talk about the details in a call.]

He exchanged contact information and called him just right after. He also had to admit he was amazed when he first saw BloodSucker's real face.

If he had to comment on it, then…

"You really look like a vampire, and the image I have of you from your name."

It came out as natural as breathing, and he only realized it when he already said it. He was worried that it would offend BloodSucker, but the other party's reaction wasn't what he expected.

"Really?" The vampire-looking man had a wide smile on his face, looking happy at his passing remark. "Hahaha! You have good eyes! I know that you're different from other people. Good, good. I do look like a vampire, huh?"

His first impression was that he wasn't any different from when he was chatting in the stream. The BloodSucker personality was clearly there.

'So he's that kind of type.' Max nodded in understanding, thinking of an illness many teenagers back in his past life caught at least once. 'I'll play along as long as it doesn't bother his workflow.'

"Yeah, you really look like one." He said, "But let's talk about work first. Are you sure you can edit the video alone daily?"

"I can," BloodSucker answered almost immediately with a confident expression.

"As long as my request is fulfilled. Don't misunderstand. The previous offer of $2,000 with 3 videos a week is good enough for me. But I think I can do more; you need more publicity too. Adding $1,000 for more exposure will be worth it."

More uploads equaled more exposure. That wasn't wrong.

Not only that, but the video would also be able to be monetized, adding more revenues to his monthly pay. Adding the extra $1,000 would be worth it.

Max already knew that and considered it. That was why he also tried to get SinSanSon to edit parkour footage.

While the guy refused, there was good news. BloodSucker seemed to be more motivated than he initially expected.

"Can you do a transitional edit for a weekly parkour footage?"

At his question, BloodSucker grinned.

"Who do you think I am? I will do it better than that 2nd place guy."

Max grinned back. He liked this guy's confidence.

Pointing at the screen, he exclaimed, "You're hired."

The next day, Max began his grind. It was Wednesday, but he had more than 7K viewers even though he live-streamed at 10 AM.

He was sitting inside a bar at his usual spot in Midnight Heist's Lobby.

"Let's begin a ranked matchmaking!" He said excitedly, "To open my Tier, it seems that I need to do 10 ranked matches. My goal for today is to open my Tier and hopefully reach Tier 4. There are only 3 weeks left until the tournament, so I will push myself to play for as long as possible."

— GRINDING TIME!

— WORK WORK WORK!

— It's time to put in effort, baby! Go get that win!

— W Breeze. He's determined to do this

— Will you stream until night?

"Yes, that's the plan."

He nodded at the chat.

"I will stream until 3 PM, then rest for a while. Then, I will continue at 6 PM until I reach my limit. I want to get used to using all my synchronization rates fast so I can stream longer. It's insane how fast you get exhausted with 98% SR. I can only play for 1 hour at the start."

Slowly but surely, his playtime increased. Even if it was a minute, it was a steady daily increment.

— I only have 84% SR, so I can't relate!

— Seeing how much you sweat in the Knight's Journey program is amazing. Even professional gamers don't sweat that much

— LilyPixel and Breeze are always covered in sweat whenever they are done playing lol

— Don't push yourself too much!

"I won't push myself too much." He smiled, "But enough talking! I will dive into this hell hole called a ranked match. From now on, I will be a true gamer! Don't blame me for cursing a lot."

Not only would it be frustrating when he lost, but it would also stress him up. He understood that better than anyone because he had experienced it once in his past life.

If not for the tournament, he probably would only play casually like usual. But circumstances forced him into this hell called ranked match.

"My MMR is probably a bit higher than a normal newbie, so I expect to enter a Lobby with experienced people. Well, I hope they won't be too hard on me."

He changed the mode to a ranked game and searched for the match.

[Searching for a match!]

The corner of his lips tugged into an excited smile. His feet rapped against the floor. He wanted to play soon and win.

Still, the first game probably wouldn't be harder than a normal match where he was up against players with a similar MMR stat as him.

"For some reason, I am a bit nervous. Will I be looked down upon if I only have the basic costume?"

— Hundred percent

— No doubt about it

— The other thieves will not trust you to steal the target without a good costume

— Just hope you won't be reported as trolls lololol

— I think you better change your costume.

"Change my costume?" Max asked while raising his eyebrows as if it was a stupid question. "While I understand that many people like to have a fancy costume with unique abilities, I think the basic two abilities from the mask and the shoes are good enough."

The shoes allowed him to jump more than 3 meters high, and the mask doubled his speed for 5 seconds. The default costumes already provided all he needed. It would be stupid to change such good abilities.

"Unless there is something that allows me to jump higher than the basic shoes, then I will change it. Running on the wall or an ability similar to that is useless. I can climb a 3-meter wall without using any ability."

— We kinda forgot he invented wall run

— I don't forget, but he opened my eyes again

— … You should show off your skill before the police can move. That way, you will be trusted by your teammates

— It would be different if you had already spread your name in the community, but this situation isn't like that.

— Kek, there are too many Midnight Heist's streamers! The concurrent viewers right now is even 800K.

— My post in Midnight Heist's forum is drowned.

Indeed, that was the problem. Max was only another streamer with 10K viewers who played Midnight Heist; he was not a real professional or someone who dedicated himself to playing it.

Even with his world record in the synchronization test and having a billboard with his face appeared in some cities, it didn't guarantee all people would know him. He was just a no-name player with no achievement in Midnight Heist… Save for the drama a few days ago.

But that didn't stop him.

"Well, I just need to spread my name from now on, right? Maybe reaching Tier 1 in 3 weeks will set a new record or something?"

— Yeah, no

— It isn't impressive anymore. A pro player called RatKing got Tier 1 in just a week. So… Yeah.

— Heh, everyone can get to Tier 1 every season reset in just a day. So it won't be impressive

— If you asked about getting to Tier 1 with default costumes and equipment, RatKing had also done that before.

— And yeah… This is a 2-year-old game. What do you expect?

Max groaned. Every possible challenge had been finished. Getting to Tier 2 in 3 weeks didn't seem as impressive as it sounded anymore after he read those.

'This is why I would prefer playing a new game. But I also want to join that tournament. At least my viewers are interested in me joining.'

At that moment, a screen popped up in front of him with a flash.

[Match Found.]

[Map: Urban – Museum (Ranked).]

[Your role is as… a Thief!]

[Target: King's Crown!]

"Oh, well. I will just play as usual. Let's do this!"
