Chapter 3 - 3 – First Game
Chapter 3: Chapter 3 – First Game
<Please choose your choice among the three offline games below:
1. Knight's Journey
2. Mercenary Quest
3. Conrad's Defense>
Max stared at the smaller blue screen in wonder. This was a virtual world, not a real one. He didn't expect the system to be able to show him the blue window in this place.
'I guess because the virtual world is connected to my brain, the system is also able to enter.'
There was another problem. How would the system install those games for him?
He wasn't a stranger to those names. The previous owner of the body, Max, had extensive knowledge about games.
Each of them cost 500$ due to how good their graphics were. Not to mention, they were among the latest release batch, thus explaining their cost.
It was said they were games that were similar to reality more than the others, even the fighting system and the fact there was no magic in each of them.
In other words, they were reality games that relied more on a player's skill than the game's help and were wildly popular for use in a challenge. Not only that, it also had a big community even when it was just released a month ago.
That was why...
"They are perfect to be used in my debut streaming."
Max was confident in his skill. He had tested himself in the Lobby and knew he could move even better than his past life before he got into an incident.
'Because the game is hard, it's normal to fail. But if I manage to clear the game on my first try... I can use that to boost my popularity, just like what I did before.'
He decided to just choose from those three as the system seemed to be real. There was nothing wrong with trying.
If the game wasn't installed after choosing one from the system reward, he could just stick to his original plan to work for a few months before starting streaming.
"Now... Let's see..."
The three games had similar reality genres. But the gameplay was different.
Knight's Journey was as its name implied. The game was about a knight's journey from his home kingdom to the edge of the world to retire. There were some fights with a weapon of his choice, a really typical adventure genre.
Checking the Punch game list, there were a total of 550 thousand viewers currently watching people playing this game, a big number in his past life but not big enough in this world.
A popular game would have more than a total of 3 million viewers, and the hottest game could reach more than 5 million viewers on its release date.
The second game, Mercenary Quest, was a bit more open-world than the first game. It focused on the players taking a quest as a mercenary and finishing it while following the provided storyline.
Just like Knight's Journey, it had no magic at all.
Currently, there were more than 503 thousand total viewers for this game.
Then, the last game, Conrad's Defense. It was a bit different from the other two, as the story revolved around the city called Conrad, which was attacked by a foreign force.
In short, it was a city defense game against waves of enemies.
Among the three, this game only had 207 thousand total viewers on Punch streaming service. The reason was simple.
"No one has ever finished the 10th wave of this game."
This game was once called the ultimate challenge that had never been broken. Some streamers still tried to finish it, but many variety game streamers had long since given up on finishing this game.
"I only have three choices, huh? And all of them are pretty hard games."
Max held his chin and leaned against the chair—a breeze passed by, rustling his short, dark hair.
Which game would gain more traction if he did something impossible? All three games were challenging, but one was more difficult than the other two due to its gameplay.
Based on that interest...
"Let's take Knight's Journey," Max said as he pressed the number 1 in the floating window.
That one was the best choice.
Not only did this game have the most viewers at the moment, but it also showcased the player's skill with cold weapons and strategy to reach the end.
<Knight's Journey is selected.>
<Installing the game in the player's capsule.>
Almost at the same time that he chose the Knight's Journey, a notification from the system came.
Following that, the mechanical voice of the VR capsule's assistant rang in the Lobby.
[A new game is being installed!]
[Installation complete! Your game is ready!]
The large screen that opened up the Punch site changed into something else.
On a screen, a knight with full-plate armor was walking through a forest with a sword strapped to his waist. He looked gallant and charismatic. And on top of the screen was the title 'Knight Journey' written on it.
This was the Knight's Journey game launcher.
The game was successfully installed into Max's VR capsule.
"Woah..." He exclaimed loudly, both in surprise and happiness. "It actually got installed."
His surprise was cut short with another voice that rang in his head.
<New Quest!>
<Quest:
- First Follower!
Obviously, a streamer needs viewers!
Let's get your first 5 followers on the streaming site! A small step for streamers, a big step for the future!
Progress: 0/5
Reward: Profile Banner
Deadline: 3 Days
Failure to complete the Quest will result in the system being uninstalled.>
A new quest had been generated. The reward was unexpectedly something related to his empty streaming account.
"I see. So the reward isn't always a game but something that's related to streaming." Max concluded, nodding in understanding. "Having a profile banner is good. It can make my profile look more professional."
As someone who couldn't design anything but a doodle and had no money to hire someone, the reward was certainly something that could be considered 'good' for him, especially since it was free and was only a bonus reward for his goal.
His profile was his only source of promotion besides his stream. He only hoped that this banner would turn out great.
"Anyway, 5 followers, huh? I better not think about it and just focus on streaming." He controlled the screen and prepared to stream.
What he did was simple: connecting his Punch account to the game and preparing the title.
[First Knight's Journey Gameplay! First Time Noob tries a godly challenging game!]
"That should be enough to get some people's attention. They usually love to mock noobs and laugh at them."
After everything was prepared, Max didn't waste his time and booted his game. His vision turned black, and he was greeted with Knight's Journey loading screen.
