Chapter 469 – Backroom 5
"Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome back to my exciting stream! Now, now. I know that all of you are excited to continue Void Box, but I have to say sorry. We won’t be playing that today."
— Why?!
— Void Box!!!
Max smiled when he read those comments.
"Sorry. We will play it tomorrow. Today, we’re going to play a different game. Backroom 5!" He spread his arms and smiled at the camera. "It’s a multiplayer horror game. And this time, I will play with my friends."
No one asked who he was going with. Most viewers already knew his little group of friends who always played with him.
Instead, they were more surprised at the game choice.
— So after being an exorcist, you are going to become a lost person who wants to escape the backroom.
— Dude, you’re really going to the backroom? Have you heard of the rumor that it can trap you for real if you don’t finish it?
— A horror multiplayer. Can we count on you to scream?
— We’re going to have a
— Screaming clips lol, I will make a compilation.
"Don’t hope too much from me. I don’t think I will scream that much." He said as he laughed. "Anyway, let’s gather with the boys. I will invite them to my Lobby now."
Saying so, he opened the menu and invited everyone.
Soon, everyone joined one by one. Lily was the first since she had access to his Lobby already, followed by Flexy and finally the other three from Bamboo Talent.
"Yo, buddy! What a line up we have here. 5 newbie streamers who managed to enter the Streamer Wars and me, your charismatic Flexy! Hahaha."
Max laughed when he read the chat.
— Charismatic my 4ss. You’re just orange!
— Flexy is too energetic, even more than Breeze.
— Orange juice?
— Shush, oranges are delicious.
— Flexy is talking too much lol. Let’s start the game.
Amelia laughed dryly at his antic. This was their first time meeting. Princess Peach too.
As for MadLad, he had met Flexy in the Knight’s Journey program and already knew his personality.
"I agree with the cat this time. You’re not charismatic at all, Flexy." Max said jokingly as Flexy gasped dramatically.
"You dare betray me?! Nooo! Lily, help me!" He cried out like a baby.
"Umm, do I know you?" She said innocently and tilted her head, her lips curled up in a slight smile.
Max laughed as Flexy gasped again.
"Traitors! Everyone betrayed me! Hmph!" He snorted and crossed his arms. "At least you’re on my side, right? We’re comrades who love oranges!" He turned to MadLad and Amelia.
MadLad shrugged while Amelia giggled.
"I don’t like orange juice."
Max laughed again before calming down. Flexy was truly energetic. It had been a long time since they met, but his friend’s personality had never changed.
"Alright, alright. Let’s play the game. By the way, Lily, Flexy, Peach, Amelia, and MadLad here are my friends. They are also nominated in Streamer Wars. Do vote for us, guys. I am in 6 categories, though. Do vote for me." He grinned.
That little bragging caught MadLad’s attention, "Show off! Though do vote for Knight’s Journey Program. We are parts of that, okay?"
Max chuckled.
Amelia and Princess Peach didn’t promote themselves. In the Streamer Wars, the three of them were rivals. That was why Max also be understanding and didn’t promote Lily in this livestream even though there were more than 15K people watching.
Anyway, they chatted and exchanged banter for a little bit before enterting the game.
"Are you guys ready?" Max asked as everyone nodded. Lily hid behind him, holding his arm with both hands.
Max smiled when he saw it.
’She’s scared already.’ He thought as he started the game.
His vision had turned black for a second before it was replaced by an eerie room with dim light on a low ceiling. The walls were green, and there were spaces with pillar bars creating a corridor.
Metal doors could be seen with some strange interiors visible through the barred windows. Some rooms looked normal while some looked like prison cells.
The place looked old. Dusts covered the floor while blood splatters were present everywhere.
Max looked at his body next. He was wearing a strange yellow safety suit with helmet. His character was equipped with a flashlight in his hand.
Behind him, Lily wore the same outfit but in white. MadLad and Amelia were in blue and red respectively while Flexy and Princess Peach were in orange and pink.
"Alright! I won the RNG!" Flexy exclaimed, happy to get an orange color he liked instead of any other color.
This eerie atmosphere didn’t even bother him. Everyone looked at him in disbelief before sighing. That managed to calm the three girls who looked terrified while MadLad mumbled something inside his safety suit as he was dragged by Amelia to accompany her.
— Flexy has no fear at al lol
— kekw, it’s so funny to see him like this.
— I wonder how his face will be after you find the monster.
"I am looking forward to that too." Max answered the chat and looked around.
Everyone had walked around the room already, exploring the area.
Only Lily clung to him, refusing to let go of his arm. Max smiled as he used his flashlight to illuminate the way. Just as he walked a few steps, MadLad’s voice rang out.
"Hey, check this out. There is a drawing here!" Discover more stories at empire
Everyone gathered around the wall as Max approached MadLad. On it, there was a drawing written in blood. There was a circle with two stripes that looked like a face.
Max read the word below it.
"Stay together and find the exit, huh? And this is an eye. Is this a clue?" He asked.
Princess Peach narrowed her eyes.
"Stay together? We can’t separate from each other?" She asked. "No no no, I don’t want to walk with a peasant. I will go first. This Princess is fearless! I shall find the exit."
Saying so, she walked away from them while humming. Max sighed when he saw it.
"Peach, wait-"
Just as he said that, MadLad also dragged Amelia away.
"Let’s follow her, Amelia. Don’t worry, Breeze. We will look after her. Let’s split into two teams."
What he said was reasonable. Finding the exit by splitting into two teams was faster than searching together. The danger increased, but it also decreased at the same time. If a monster chased after one group, the other group could focus on finding the exit to the next stage.
Only at a game like this that Max didn’t want to be given any clue. If there were too many clues in a horror game, then it wouldn’t be fun.
And as this game was the fifth installment, everyone already knew the rules. That was why the developer also skipped the tutorial and just dropped the players in this strange space.
"Well, I guess it’s just us three." He said as he looked at Flexy and Lily. "The usual group, eh?"
Flexy nodded. "Let’s go! I am leading this time." He said as he motioned for Max and Lily to follow him.
They walked toward a different direction from where Princess Peach, MadLad, and Amelia went. Max led Lily with him while Flexy scouted the front.
Max noticed Lily tightened her hold every time they found a new thing. In this game, there was nothing scary yet. That was until a few seconds later.
"Hyaaaa!"
"Nooo!"
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!" n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
A loud scream came from the opposite direction where the other group went. Max jumped slightly, surprised by their voices. Lily was shaking slightly, clutching into his safety suit.
Flexy’s usual outgoing act disappeared as he trembled. He turned back to Max with a pale face.
"D-did you hear that? Th-they screamed so loudly..." He stuttered. "W-what happened to them?"
Max gulped as he shook his head. "I don’t know... But I know one thing we could do." He turned to Flexy and both of them nodded.
"What a coincidence. I know what we should do too." Flexy replied. Max smirked as he said.
"Run!"
Both of them ran away from the screams, dragging Lily who still clung to Max. The girl squealed in surprise, but she quickly followed them without saying anything.
First priority was to get as far away as possible from the source of the scream.
— lololol
— They looked terrified lol
— Hahahaha! RUN RUN RUN!
— Chicken Breeze!
"Fuck you chat!" Flexy cursed at his chat as he kept running. "Who told you to scream like that?! And I am not a chicken!"
Max laughed when he heard it. "I agree with Flexy this time. Chat, you guys are terrible." He scolded before smiling wryly. "But hey, I am not a chicken too."
They passed by pillars and went through a strange maze-like loop corridor before arriving at a fork. Max stopped running as Flexy took deep breaths to catch his breath. Lily also breathed heavily.
The three of them ran at full speed without a care of the world.
Only for Flexy to raise a flag.
"Did we lose it?"
"Oh, goddamnit, Flexy!" Max shouted angrily. "Why did you say that?!"
"Sorry! I am truly sorry!"
Just as he finished that, loud footsteps rang from the corridor where they came from earlier. Looking at the source, Max saw a shadow with a round face and big eyes coming closer. It was just a floating round face with nothing more. Its eyes were two vertical slits.
"Ah, fuck! It’s your fault, Flexy! Lily, let’s run and ditch this guy."
"Wh-hey!" Flexy shouted.
Max dragged Lily as they ran away from that shadow. Lily squealed in fear as she held into Max’s safety suit. The boy felt bad for leaving Flexy alone, but he didn’t want to die because of him.
’Stay together. We followed the instructions but were still attacked, so…’ The instruction flashed in his mind. ’That means the monster will target an individual first.’
Max decided to leave Flexy for now. This was just a game and Flexy wouldn’t die anyway.
They ran for a while before stopping as he and Lily lost their breath.
"Nooooo!!" Flexy could be heard screaming from faraway as Max sighed.
Taking care of his breath, he looked around and checked his flashlight. He didn’t notice it earlier, but the flashlight had a limited battery.
It was currently at 75%.
"Phew." He sighed and looked at Lily in his arms. "Are you okay, Lily?" He asked. Lily nodded, but she still trembled slightly. Max hugged her as he spoke. "Don’t worry. That monster won’t chase us anymore."
"U-Un, I know. I just need to... get used to it." She replied before smiling weakly. Max patted her head as he smiled.
"Let’s continue exploring." He said as Lily nodded.
Max moved again with Lily following him from behind. There were arrows on the walls now that directed them to somewhere.
"Follow the exit to the backroom? Ah, there is another arrow here." He said as he shone his flashlight at it. "It seems we’re close now."
What do you think?
