Chapter 26
C26 – Fu Nian’s Conspiracy
Qi Ning cast a glance at Fu Nian.
Truth be told, Qi Ning wasn’t particularly fond of Fu Nian.
From their very first encounter, Qi Ning could tell that Fu Nian was the type to be shrewd and opportunistic.
Initially, Fu Nian had tested Qi Ning to see if he would challenge his status as the top dog of Sigu.
But after the incident in the woods, Qi Ning had firmly secured his place as the leading figure of Sigu. Once Fu Nian realized the change was irreversible, he began to show goodwill towards Qi Ning.
“Everyone’s planning to get together tomorrow. Are you in?” Fu Nian asked, his eyes brimming with hope.
Qi Ning’s brow creased ever so slightly.
Despite the hopeful look in Fu Nian’s eyes, Qi Ning discerned an ulterior motive.
“Where do you plan to go?” Qi Ning inquired, keeping his composure.
“With a smile, Fu Nian replied, “We’re heading to Joy KTV, the best spot in Sigu, of course!”
Qi Ning arched an eyebrow and asked nonchalantly, “Who’s going to be there?”
Fu Nian, still smiling, said, “A few of our classmates, and some from other classes too. Pang Yuejuan heard you might come, and it seems she’s interested in going as well.”
Hearing this, Qi Ning began to feel irked.
Fu Nian’s words seemed like a simple invitation, but on closer inspection, it was clear he was attempting to coerce Qi Ning.
Fu Nian believed his approach was flawless, but he was up against Qi Ning.
“Yuejuan is going?” Qi Ning feigned excitement.
Many rumors had circulated following the forest incident.
One rumor that Qi Ning remembered distinctly was that he had feelings for Pang Yuejuan.
“Well, if she’s going, I might as well join,” Qi Ning decided, curious to see what Fu Nian was up to.
It was Friday after school.
Since Qi Ning and Pang Yuejuan lived in the same direction, they walked home together every day.
“Got any plans for the weekend?” Qi Ning asked casually.
Typically, Pang Yuejuan spent her weekends working at a milk tea shop.
The shop’s owner, a kind young woman, had hired Pang Yuejuan as a part-time employee every weekend after learning about her family’s situation.
Moreover, during the quieter times at the shop, Pang Yuejuan was able to work on her homework.
“I’m considering getting a job,” Pang Yuejuan murmured to herself, gazing into the distance. “I still haven’t saved enough for my tuition fees. I’m hoping my exam scores are good enough to get me into a decent university without having to pay.”
Her dream was to attend Capital University, but reality often fell short of her expectations.
Pang Yuejuan had learned from a young age to confront reality head-on. Thus, she set her sights on being accepted into a respectable university with a scholarship, rather than pinning her hopes on Capital University.
“It looks like I need to find a way to make some money,” Qi Ning pondered.
His family’s financial situation was slightly better than Pang Yuejuan’s, but only marginally so.
If he were to gain admission to Capital University, it would be a struggle for them to afford his tuition and fees for three years.
By midnight, Qi Ning had completed all his homework.
Thanks to his mastery of the study material, he worked through the questions with remarkable speed.
The following morning, Qi Ning rose early, took a brief walk outside his neighborhood, and then made his way to the meeting spot he had arranged with Fu Nian.
