Chapter 69 - 69 Scheme
69 Scheme
Fu Xiao saw that something was amiss and hurried over to smoothen things over. “Miss Shen, my wife is busy with work and caring for our child. It is natural that she might overlook some things.”
He briefly made an excuse for his wife before changing the topic. “Although Little Jing entrusted us with today’s private birthday banquet, since you’re here, of course we will welcome you. If you need anything, you can look for me or Little ‘E at any time. You’re the Lian family’s benefactor, so of course we’ll treat you as a distinguished guest.”
Lian’e’s expression softened a little. She forced her words through gritted teeth. “Miss Shen, forgive us for not keeping you company. We have many important guests today. Please make yourself at home.”
She had a feeling that if this continued, Shen Yin might say something that would affect her reputation, so she walked away gracefully.
“Little ‘E, there’s no need to be angry with her. Everything is ready on that side. Someone will come and deal with her later.” Fu Xiao coaxed her gently. He held her hand and gently planted a kiss on the back of her palm.
Lian’e’s expression relaxed, but there was a sinister look in her eyes. “How dare she embarrass me in front of so many people! I’ll definitely ruin this little b*tch’s reputation later!”
Lian’e and Fu Xiao had left, but the crowd continued to look at Shen Yin hostilely.
They had heard what she said just now. They had already looked down on Shen Yin, but after her speech, they now thought she was the kind of woman who would use President Lian’s desire to repay her kindness to stick to him shamelessly.
Cheng Huo gently swirled his wine and smiled faintly. “You don’t worry about such things. I have faith in Doctor Shen’s character.”
Shen Yin smiled back, but her smile did not reach her eyes. She was just putting on an act. “President Cheng, aren’t you going to mingle? The attendees at an event like this are either rich and noble. They’re much more important than me. Why are you wasting your time here, President Cheng?”
Cheng Huo raised an eyebrow. “Then I’ll take my leave. Just a friendly word of advice – Lian’e won’t let this go so easily. Be careful.”
“Thank you.” Shen Yin thanked him politely and sat in the corner to drink.
Since the two organizers, Lian’e and Fu Xiao, might not be on good terms with Shen Yin, no one bothered with her after Cheng Huo left.
Shen Yin, on the other hand, was happy and at ease. She could not wait for this banquet to end quickly. A old man and a young boy were waiting for her at home.
Shen Yin could not help but smile when she thought of those two people who were sincerely good to her.
“Why are you here, laughing foolishly to yourself?” She did not know when Lian Jing had arrived. He was standing by her table and staring at her as if looking at a fool.
“Don’t come so close.” Shen Yin sighed. Did this person have no sense of self-awareness at all? So many burning gazes were turned on him, yet he ignored them.
“Huh?” Lian Jing frowned unhappily and leaned closer. “Is your brain damaged? Or did someone bully you?”
Shen Yin rolled her eyes at him and raised her slender fingers to push at his forehead, forcing his head aside. “You’re the most important person at this event. You can’t just talk to me.”
Lian Jing straightened up and his cold gaze swept over the people behind him, forcing everyone to look away.
What had they seen? That woman actually dared to use her fingers to push President Lian’s head aside! Was she tired of living, or were they all hallucinating?! Why didn’t President Lian seem angry at all!
The crowd gasped at Shen Yin’s boldness. At the same time, they were mentally recalibrating.
Lian’e hung up and hid her vicious smile. She smiled with dignity as she held a wine glass and clutched Lian Jing’s arm to pull him away. “Little Jing, you’re finally here. Quick, come and see if you’re satisfied with your birthday banquet. These are all our business partners. They specially came to celebrate your birthday.”
Lian Jing looked back at Shen Yin worriedly, but Shen Yin shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. She did not belong to this circle at all. If Lian Jing walked away, these people would pay less attention to her. Otherwise, if she caused trouble, they would definitely find out about Nian Nian.
Lian Jing’s tense face relaxed a little when he saw that she really did not care. He inadvertently retracted his arm and mingled with the crowd to socialize.
However, Lian’e secretly turned to look at Shen Yin with a cold glint in her eyes.
