Chapter 88 - 88 Kidnapped
88 Kidnapped
Meng Heng felt uneasy. He took out his phone and called Shen Yin. Everyone subconsciously held their breaths. They clearly heard the notification that the other party’s phone had been switched off.
“Oh no, some thing is wrong.” Wu Zheng reacted quickly and ordered, “Quick, check the location of Dr. Shen’s cell phone signal.”
Zou Sheng swiftly used the computer to track the signal. “I found it. The last location of Dr. Shen’s cell phone was near a small alley in the south of the city.”
“South of the city?” Wu Zheng eyes suddenly widened. “Isn’t that where Lin Hui was last seen?”
“Oh no, she must have been kidnapped by Lin Hui or someone who is threatening Lin Hui!” Meng Heng anxiously picked up his car keys. He was about to leave when Wu Zheng grabbed him.
“Wait, first we have to find out who would want to kidnap Shen Yin. She’s just the forensic pathologist on this case. There’s no reason for the person targeting Lin Hui to target Shen Yin as well.”
“It must be that phone call!” Zou Sheng tried to continue tracking the signal, but Shen Yin’s phone was still at the entrance of the alley. “Perhaps someone has thrown away Shen Yin’s phone.”
“Yes, in that phone call, Shen Yin said very firmly that someone must be coercing Lin Hui. It’s possible that the murderer overheard her and thought that she would investigate him, so he decided to kill her to silence her.” Wu Zheng nodded and looked at Zou Sheng. “Pull up all the surveillance footage in the vicinity. Meng Heng and I will go to the scene.”
As the minutes ticked by, Meng Heng’s heart began to sink.
The entrance of the alley was too remote, so there was no surveillance footage of the area. He picked up Shen Yin’s phone from the ground and looked at the only BMW parked by the roadside. He exchanged glances with Wu Zheng. Both of them felt that this car was most likely to belong to Shen Yin.
Meng Heng looked about to make sure no one was around before opening the car door. He sat in the driver’s seat and started searching.
There were very few things in the car, and the interior was very new. It looked like a new car. Meng Heng rummaged around and finally found Shen Yin’s driver’s license in the front drawer.
After confirming that this was Shen Yin’s car, Meng Heng turned on the dashcam and began to check the records, but he did not see anyone who resembled the man in the video.
“What should we do?” He looked at the silent Wu Zheng, feeling extremely anxious. They were dealing with an extremely cruel person. It was very likely that she had killed her son with his own hands. Such a person definitely would not show mercy to the female police officer who was pursuing her.
They had to find Shen Yin as soon as possible. The longer this dragged on, the poorer the outcome.
Wu Zheng looked around and suddenly asked with a frown, Aren’t we near the manufacturer who supplied that restaurant?”
When he said that, Meng Heng suddenly remembered that it was true. He nodded repeatedly. “That’s right. This is the factory that supplied frozen goods to the restaurant that reported the case.”
Wu Zheng nodded and called Zou Sheng. “Don’t check the surveillance footage first. Check if any of Lin Hui’s acquaintances live nearby or has worked for the frozen goods factory.”
After hanging up, Wu Zheng muttered, “Looks like we have to go to the factory and ask for a copy of their confidential information.”
Meng Heng drove there immediately. However, when he arrived at the factory, he found out that the boss was attending to some other matters and was not at the factory. There was only the secretary, who did not have any authority to make decisions.
The secretary casually clasped her hands together. “I can’t show it to you. Our factory has rules. This is confidential information. No one can access it other than the higher management.”
Meng Heng was so angry that he slammed his palm on the secretary’s desk. “Please cooperate with us. We’re the police.”
“So what if you’re a police officer? Are you going to hit me? Why are you being so unreasonable?!” The secretary glared at him. She stiffened her neck and refused to give in, afraid that her colleagues around her would laugh at her.
When Meng Heng saw that she was determined to fight him to the end, he angrily drew back his hand, but his eyes were still fixed on her. “Is there anyone more senior here?”
The secretary sneered. “I thought you were a police officer? You don’t even know that we’re part of the Lian Corporation? Our superior is President Lian. You poor police officers have to be careful. President Lian isn’t someone to be trifled with.”
The secretary used her powerful connections to mock Meng Heng. But to her surprise, Meng Heng’s eyes lit up at the mention of President Lian. He took out his phone and found the number he had saved when he was investigating Lian Jing.
