Chapter 2131: 2132: You Think I Don't Exist?
Chapter 2131: Chapter 2132: You Think I Don’t Exist?
“Let’s go, let’s go down and take a look.”
Zhang Peng parked the car, and the three of them got out together.
Lin Yi got out of the car, glanced at the person on the ground who had a gash in his head, about three or four centimeters long, and judged that it seemed to be an external injury and there was no danger to life.
“Did you call an ambulance?”
“It’s called, it’s on its way,” replied a dark-skinned worker.
Lin Yi nodded and shifted his gaze.
Not far away stood three people, the leader of whom was dressed in a suit, not very tall, somewhat overweight, and wearing a white safety helmet.
According to the relevant industry regulations, the person with the white helmet was the site leader.
The man’s name was Yang Qifeng, the contractor responsible for the project. He was in charge of everything on the construction site.
“Was it you who hit the person?” Lin Yi raised an eyebrow and asked.
“Officer, here’s the thing, early in the morning, none of them would work and they came here causing trouble; then an argument happened,” Yang Qifeng explained,
“We also accidentally hit them.”
“You’re full of shit!” a worker stepped forward and said,
“You haven’t paid us for two months and, on top of that, the food we get is worse than pigswill. We have to work overtime every day without overtime pay; how dare you push all the blame onto us!”
“I have explained before that our funds have been a bit tight recently, waiting for the bank loan to come through, then I will pay your wages!” Yang Qifeng said,
“Besides, I already told you, if you don’t like the conditions here, you can leave right now, no one’s stopping you. Get lost and stop being an eyesore, damn it.”
Lin Yi raised an eyebrow at Yang Qifeng’s remark, “Do you fucking think I’m not here? I’m right here and you still dare to curse?”
Yang Qifeng flinched, startled, and gave a sheepish smile,
“Sorry, sorry, I got too worked up just now.”
Lin Yi ignored Yang Qifeng and addressed the several dozen workers surrounding him,
“Send someone to represent you and tell me what happened.”
The worker who had confronted Yang Qifeng spoke up,
“Officer, it’s just as I said earlier, I don’t plan to work here anymore.”
“If you don’t want to work, then leave. We’re not holding you back,” Yang Qifeng said impatiently.
“You can let us go, but settle our wages first.”
“You haven’t finished the job and you still want to get paid?” Yang Qifeng argued,
“I’m telling you, if you want your money go back and finish the work; if not, you can leave right now.”
“Officer, you see what we’re dealing with here, he’s being completely unreasonable. My daughter is waiting to pay her tuition fees. If we don’t get our wages, we can’t even afford school.”
“Don’t worry, we’re here now; we’ll definitely sort this out.”
After that, Lin Yi turned to Yang Qifeng and asked,
“Who made the rule that you can only get paid after the project is completed?”
“That’s our rule, it was agreed from the start,” Yang Qifeng said.
“Do you have a labor contract? Show it to me.”
“Well…”
Yang Qifeng chuckled wryly, “Boss, you know how it is, this is a construction site, where would we get a labor contract.”
“Then what you said just now counts as intimidation and extortion, and that’s a crime,” Lin Yi stated,
“You would admit that you haven’t paid them, right?”
Yang Qifeng’s expression wasn’t very pleasant, but he had no choice but to tough it out,
“Yes, that’s right…”n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
“There’s nothing more to say then, I’ll give you three days to get this sorted out, or else wait for a court summons.”
Lin Yi turned to Zhang Zixin and said,
“Get some seals ready to shut down their construction site. Don’t let them start work again until they’ve rectified the issues.”
“Understood.”
Seeing Lin Yi was about to seal the site, Yang Qifeng panicked. If the site was sealed, the leaders above would give him hell!
“Officer, does it really need to be like this? It wouldn’t hurt to show a little face to each other, right?”
“Am I not already showing face?” Lin Yi said,
“If it had been my old temper, you’d be lying on the ground right now.”
“So there’s no room for negotiation?”
“The room has already been given to you, as soon as you settle the wages, then you can resume work.” Lin Yi said,
“As for you, stop wasting your breath.”
Yang Qifeng frowned, “If I’m not mistaken, you guys aren’t from Nong’an Branch, right?”
“This is Xinshan branch office’s jurisdiction, what does it have anything to do with Nong’an Branch?”
“Really sorry, our company is within Nong’an Branch’s jurisdiction, so it has nothing to do with you guys.”
“Ha, bullshit…”
Lin Yi grinned, “Now you’re trying to play word games with me?”
“At first, I didn’t want this, but since you keep pestering, I naturally have to argue the point.”
Yang Qifeng was an old hand in the industry and knew well the adage that commoners do not battle with officials.
But he didn’t wish to fight with Lin Yi, not because he was scared.
After all, his income and networking were several levels higher than Lin Yi’s, and he wasn’t like ordinary citizens who would quake in fear upon seeing police.
He just wanted to downplay the issue and resolve it.
But since Lin Yi didn’t give any leeway, he had no choice but to take a tough stand.
“So you mean to say you want Nong’an Branch to handle this?”
“Our company is on Nong’an Branch’s territory, by regulation, they’re in charge.” Yang Qifeng said,
“I also called the police just now, and they should be arriving soon. I’ll report the current situation to the Nong’an Branch when they arrive.”
Zhang Peng and Zhang Zixin exchanged a glance.
It was clear that they were in the wrong and yet they had the audacity to call the police, which suggested there might be more to the situation.
“Officer, please handle this,” the earlier worker stepped forward, his face filled with grief,
“We’ve had this happen before, and it was Nong’an Branch who came, but after they arrived, they just told me to settle it privately, not sticking to the facts. If they come now, it’s sure to be the same mess again.”
“Don’t worry about this, I believe the ambulance has arrived; take care of the injured first.”
“Alright, alright.”
The ambulance arrived shortly after, treated the person briefly, and then took him away.
Not long after, another police car drove in and stopped next to Lin Yi.
Two policemen got out.
Their faces showed a hint of apprehension when they saw Lin Yi and his party.
“You guys are from Xinshan team, right?” asked the slightly overweight leading officer as he sized them up.
His name was Li Cai, and he was the one who handled the previous conflict.
Lin Yi nodded, cutting to the chase,
“We’ve got the full story, they’re withholding wages, what do you plan to do about it?”
