Xia Xin decided to venture up the mountain to see if there were any residents. If she found any, she would ask for something to eat and hopefully get in touch
with her television crew.
Hauling her backpack up the steep incline, she stumbled upon a log cabin that gave her an eerie feeling. But with no other options, she had to swallow her reservations and proceed.
Just as she was about to knock on the door, a whiff of some strange fragrance wafted from the cabin’s wooden surface. Xia Xin instinctively felt that the smell was far from benign.
Before she could retreat, she sensed a rush of wind behind her, aimed straight for her head. Terrified, Xia Xin dropped and rolled away. A loud “thud” reverberated through the air—something had struck the door.
Raising her eyes, she found Xu Ping brandishing a stick, while Xu An stood a short distance away, observing her.
“What do you want?” Xia Xin asked, her voice icy.
“Just come with us,” Xu An replied, equally cold.
“I don’t remember ever having any dealings with you,” Xia Xin said. All the while, her eyes darted through her system’s Shop, scanning for any items she might be able to use.
Oblivious to Xia Xin’s discreet item exchange, the twins assumed she was just lost in thought.
“This woman is up to something. Be cautious,” Xu An whispered to Xu Ping.
Xu Ping nodded. Earlier, when Xia Xin had escaped, he had been swarmed by wasps. If not for Xu An, he would’ve been stung multiple times.
“Ms. Xia, rest assured, we have no intentions of harming you,” Xu Ping assured Xia Xin. “We just want you to come with us.”
“Why waste time talking? Just tie her up!” Xu An reached for the rope behind Xu Ping and advanced toward Xia Xin.
Just in time, Xia Xin found the perfect item in her system, a Mighty Tonic, which she exchanged for 50 ,ooo Affinity points. But considering her surroundings, she decided against drinking it just yet.
“I can go with you, but you have to promise not to harm me,” Xia Xin negotiated.
“What’s your game?” Xu An halted, intrigued.
“I don’t even know you,” Xia Xin retorted, her voice measured. “The moment you approach me, you want to tie me up. Isn’t it normal for me to be wary? Besides, do you really think I can take both of you on?”
Xia Xin mentally scrolled through every memory she had, convinced she had never crossed paths with the twins in this life or any other. Clearly, they wanted something from her, and until they got it, they were unlikely to harm her.
“Very clever, Ms. Xia,” Xu An said, tossing aside the rope and securing her wrists with zip ties instead. “These are just to limit your movements; as long as you don’t struggle, they won’t hurt you.”
Surveying the narrow plastic ties, Xia Xin was relieved she hadn’t consumed the Mighty Tonic. A sudden application of force could cause the ties to slice Into ner wrists.
“Where are you taking me?” Xia Xin inquired.
“We’re going to Azuralis,” Xu An responded.
‘Azuralis?’ Xia Xin was puzzled but refrained from asking further questions.
She decided she would find out more once she had the opportunity to escape. Seeing Xia Xin calm down, Xu An was pleased and said, “Let’s go, Ms. Xia.”
Being extra cautious, Xu Ping and Xu An didn’t lead Xia Xin back down the way they came. Instead, they went into the log cabin. Xu An fiddled with some controls, and suddenly a portion of the ground sank to reveal a staircase leading underground.
They led her through a dim, narrow underground passage. The musty smell made Xia Xin nauseous, but she held it together; this was no place for resistance.
After what felt like an eternity, her eyes adapted to the darkness, and Xia Xin noticed a sliver of light in the distance. They were nearing their destination.
Sure enough, they emerged into daylight amid towering mountains. To Xia Xin’s astonishment, they were at the foot of a different mountain, far from where her television crew was located..
