Chapter 88: The Grudge Between Gligars and Flygons

Chapter 88: The Grudge Between Gligars and Flygons

Suddenly, Yuga thought of how Gligar leader had instigated him to steal this treasure. With a sinister smile, he released Gligar leader from captivity and waved the Guardian Orb in front of it, saying, "Gligar, take a look at this. What do you think it is?"

Gligar leader's eyes gleamed with excitement upon seeing the Guardian Orb. It extended its pincers eagerly, attempting to grab the orb from Yuga's hand.

Quickly evading Gligar's pincers, Yuga said with a half-smile, "This is my possession. What are you trying to do?"

Frustrated that it couldn't snatch the Guardian Orb, Gligar leader was practically tearing its hair out in desperation. It wanted to seize it, but seeing the nearby Audino, Swellow, and Linoone, it could only dejectedly give up.

Seeing Gligar leader's reaction, Yuga tempted it, saying, "You can have it too if you want. As long as you and your followers stick with me in the future, not only will I ensure your livelihood and assist you in evolving, but I'll also let you and your followers use this orb for free. How does that sound?"

Gligar was already nearly insane with desire for the orb. At this point, it had no choice but to eagerly nod its head.

Seeing Gligar leader's agreement, Yuga was overjoyed. Seizing this opportunity, he also released Flygon's leader from captivity.

Flygon had by now awakened. With a single glance, it saw Gligar leader nearby and gave it a disdainful look. Then, it lowered its head in submission toward Yuga.

Gligar leader was about to be driven mad by Flygon leader's disdainful gaze. If it weren't for Yuga's presence, it would have leapt up to confront Flygon.

Yuga was also quite puzzled. He hadn't done much, but Flygon leader seemed to have submitted to him willingly. Why was that?

In reality, Yuga didn't know that Flygon leader had misunderstood the situation.

Flygon leader thought that Audino was Yuga's Pokémon, so when Audino triumphantly defeated it, it was tantamount to Yuga defeating it. Therefore, Yuga became its master.

Flygon had never left the underground labyrinth and was unaware of the changes outside. Its entire understanding was based on the rules passed down by its ancestors thousands of years ago.

Flygon's ancestors had been domesticated by ancient humans and even served in the military. Their inherent nature toward their owners was one of loyalty and obedience.

During that time, the relationship between the "Monsters," as the creatures were known then, and humans wasn't as cooperative as it was now. Their relationship was the simplest form of master and servant.

During that era, the Monsters revered strength, and it wasn't shameful for the weaker to submit to the stronger.

Thus, after being defeated by Audino, Flygon naturally submitted to Yuga.

As for why Gligar leader didn't perceive things this way, it was because a member of Gligar tribe had sneaked out of the labyrinth eight hundred years earlier.

Although Yuga was unclear about the reasoning, Flygon leader's submission brought everyone great joy. The outcome after the misunderstanding was resolved remained to be seen.

However, Gligar leader and Flygon leader were truly incompatible. Flygon leader looked down on Gligar leader, while Gligar leader was itching to confront Flygon but simply couldn't win.

To speak of the feud between Gligars and Flygon, one must trace it back several hundred years.

In those days, Gligar and Flygon tribes, along with Aggron tribe, obeyed King Arus's orders to guard the orb. However, as time passed, the people within the labyrinth all died, leaving only these creatures behind.

Subsequently, Aggron tribe gradually went extinct due to its inability to adapt to the desert climate. Only Gligars and Flygon remained in the labyrinth.

Originally, the two tribes coexisted peacefully, jointly safeguarding the orb. However, as the older generation of Flygon and Gliscor passed away, the relationship between the new generation Flygon and Gligars deteriorated, leading to frequent conflicts.

In the end, Gligar tribe developed the desire to monopolize the Guardian Orb.

However, this intention was detected by Flygon tribe, leading to a massive war between the two tribes.

Yet, the strength of Gligar tribe had significantly dwindled by then.

We all know that Gligars need Razor Fangs to evolve; otherwise, they can't evolve.

However, the supply of Razor Fangs in the labyrinth had diminished over time. Moreover, many of the older generation Gliscor that had evolved using Razor Fangs had already passed away.

In contrast, Flygon tribe didn't have this concern.

As long as they were willing to work hard and had sufficient aptitude, evolving from Trapinch to Flygon wasn't a difficult task.

As a result, during this great war, Gligar tribe suffered a major defeat and was expelled from their territory by Flygon.

As time went on, life in the underground labyrinth grew increasingly comfortable. The absence of conflict led to a significant decline in the strength of both Flygon and Gligar tribes.

Especially for Gligar tribe, which was now farther from the Guardian Orb, they had declined in both strength and numbers and were no longer a match for Flygon.

In the past, generation after generation of Gligars attempted to attack Flygon tribe, hoping to reclaim their territory and enjoy the blessings of the orb. Yet, due to their considerable decline in strength, Gligars failed in every attempt.

Thus, the grudge between Gligar and Flygon tribes was deep-seated.

Even the current Gligar leader followed the instructions of its ancestors and attempted to attack Flygon tribe's territory. But upon arrival, it realized that their numbers were fewer than Flygon and their strength was far inferior.

Over the years, despite a significant decline in strength, Flygon tribe's numbers had not decreased. Instead, they continued to increase.

This was the reason why Gligar leader was so unsettled upon hearing the name "Flygon" earlier.

However, at that time, Flygon tribe didn't trouble Gligar tribe. They were too weak, and Flygon tribe didn't even bother to bully them, just expelling them from their territory.

This was precisely what angered Gligar leader the most because they felt utterly belittled. Hence, whenever it saw a Flygon, it would become agitated.

Yet, Yuga was oblivious to the enmity between the two tribes. Upon seeing the tense standoff between Gligar and Flygon leaders, he quickly interjected, "From now on, we're all partners. Don't be like this, alright? Let's get along!"

In truth, Yuga really wanted to scold Gligar leader. Did it not realize its own strength? Flygon could defeat it with just one claw. How did it find the courage to glare at it so angrily?

Hearing Yuga's words, the atmosphere between the two Pokémons finally eased up a bit. Although they still ignored each other, at least the tension had subsided somewhat.
