Chapter 62: Bitchy Carabao
Nile crawled back in the wall of the Village Hall and leaned his back on it to relax.
He took a peek at Maximo and said stats.
[Maximo:
Early Stage Level One° Mutated Carabao.
Metallise Horn.
Thick Metallise Hide.
Status: Evolving to middle-Level One°
]
Unlike the usual stats points of humans and zombies.
Animal's Level System is different. On every Level, the animals are divided into four stages namely, Early, Middle, Late, and Peak. On every stage, they will evolve and gain notable strength.
Maximo is only an Early Stage Level One° animal. On human and zombie stats points, by comparison, Maximo strength is at 5.1-7.0.
Middle Stage Level One° animal stats points are comparable to 7.01-9.0, Late Stage Level One° animal is 9.01-11.0, while the Peak Stage Level One° animal is comparable to 11.01-14.9 stats points.
For Maximo to be able to receive the punch of the Level One° zombie that has the strength equivalent to 8.20 was remarkable. It seems that Maximo has an exceptional hide as its defence.
Maximo is currently evolving towards Middle Stage Level One° anima. Nile did not know how much time until Maximo evolves, but he knew that after Maximo successfully evolves, he will become stronger with his stats hovering around 7.01-9.0 points.
It was already late noon, Nile had already rested enough, and his energy is now almost back to full. Maximo had also started to return to being lively again.
Nile took a food and water ration from his Storage Space and started to eat. As far as Nile knew, Maximo did not eat anything so far. He reckons that the system said that animals need to eat mutated plants or other mutated animals to evolve.
Maximo is in the process of evolving, feeding him mutated plants might hasten this process.
Nile gives Maximo the water ration which Maximo gladly took a sip which almost emptied the whole gallon.
After eating his fill, Nile drank a mouthful of water and started to observe his surroundings carefully. He remembered that back in his previous life, Carabao's can be fed with Sugarcane leaves.
Nile approaches the sugarcane plantation at the distance and after saying 'stats' inside his head. Nile realized that it was really a mutated sugarcane.
Its stem is gaining metallic properties, if this stem matures, they can be used as poles. Of course, using them as a weapon to battle Level One° zombies is wishful thinking. They might have already mutated, but even metals did not have the same strength, hardness and density.
Nile cut a couple of sugarcane stems along with their leaves and brought them back to Maximo. He heard a metal clashing metal sound when he made the slash, but because of the superiority of the Katana, it got cut easily.
Maximo is still enjoying its drink. It stared at Nile curiously, who was bringing the sugarcane leaves along.
Nile offered the sugarcane stem and leaves towards Maximo. Maximo scrutinizes its brows together, it stares at the sugarcane and Nile alternately.
After a while, it realizes what Nile is doing. Maximo could not help but make a 'blergh'. It turned its head around and continued to sip on the little water that is left on the gallon.
For a moment, Nile thought he heard Maximo say 'hmmp' when it turned its head around.
Nile smiled wryly as he threw the sugarcane away. He felt contempt on how Maximo views the sugarcane leaves.
It's as if it is saying, 'Eww, what a low-class kind of leaves.'
'For f*cks sake, this carabao sure is bitchy.' Nile thought.
After Maximo finished the water ration, Nile decided that they should now continue their journey. But before that, they scour the wooden Barangay Hall of Ulhi to search for something valuable.
But they returned empty-handed. Aside from the bodies lying everywhere inside, there is nothing worth mentioning.
Village of Ulhi, unlike any other barangay, has a small population. Its wooden Village Hall stood at the centre of a few wooden houses.
The small department store is also made of wood. Nile and Maximo scourge the whole area and still return empty-handed.
Nile wondered where the people living at the Village of Ulhi go. They are facing two troubles at the same time, after all. Zombies and the threat of wild animals.
Even though it was only a few days ago the animal's side started to mutate. Before that, the animals must also be in a panic too. It was during that time that zombie pets were wreaking havoc by infecting multiple animals. Wild animals or Livestock animals, no exemption.
The panic-stricken animals must have evacuated or hidden somewhere else. But where did the people evacuated to? Even if the Village of Ulhi had little population compared to the other Villages the dead bodies at the wooden Village Hall definitely did not meet the whole population count.
The only possible scenario is that they are dead in their own house, or they have evacuated towards another Village. Living in this forest-like place is definitely not a good choice.
Nile rode on Maximo and they returned to the National Road to continue their journey.
As they were travelling, Nile put his focus on the System and tried many different ways to discover a new function. Unfortunately, he did not discover it after trying many times and could only give up.
Nile observed around all he could see are towering trees from left and right. There is still the sugarcane plantation around, but it was sparse compared to the area at the centre of the Village of Ulhi.
...
Nile saw a towering coconut tree in the distance. He stirred Maximo towards that area and jumped off Maximo's back.
Nile looked up and estimated that the coconut tree had a height of at least fifteen meters. If Nile uses his arm as the measuring tool, he realizes that he will not be able to hug the trunk of the coconut tree in full. From that alone, Nile concluded that it was definitely a mutated coconut tree. He used the System to certify this fact, and indeed it was mutated, no suspense.
In fact, all the plants they encountered along the way had mutated in one way or another.
Nile kind of misses the taste of coconut water and meat. The sweetness, nutty and mild flavour of the meat. As well as the naturally refreshing and sweetness of the coconut water. He misses them.
Seeing the towering coconut tree, Nile could not help his mouth to water.
Nile shoos Maximo away to the distance and climbs the coconut tree. He could not help but be awed by the sheer size of its trunk when he arrived in the middle. Although the width of the trunk of the coconut tree got thinner as he went higher, it was still massive. When he reaches the top, he is further awed by the size of the coconut fruit.
Every fruit has the size of a small basin. The water inside should be able to fill a full gallon of water. Its meat could definitely feed four people in full.
Every fruit bunch has eight or more coconut fruits. Nile searches for the fruit bunch that is not yet matured and old. He circled the trunk and finally found the desired fruit bunch.
Using the Katana of Liberation, Nile cut the stem connecting to the coconut fruit bunch, letting them fall to the ground directly.
Nile then hastily climbs off the coconut tree. He could wait to taste the fruit of the mutated coconut tree.
