Chapter 70 - Kriegsmesser Of Agony
After the streams of Dual Wield knowledge getting poured in Nile's mind subsided, Nile took the Kriegsmesser of Agony inside the System Storage Space.
The Kriegsmesser (war knife) is a curved weapon that has a length of 1.25 meters. It did not look any much different from the Katana of Liberation. It also has a single-edge blade. The hilt of the Kriegsmesser includes a straight cross-guard and a Nagel: a nail-like protrusion that juts out from the right side of the cross-guard, away from the flat of the blade, to protect the wielder's sword hand. The handle was coloured with a stripe of red and black, while the blade had a red line in the centre.
Just like any other weapon that Nile had, the Kriegsmesser is coloured mainly with red and black. But different from them, the Kriegsmesser's red colour has a different feel. If observed carefully, one could feel the anguish, pain and many other negative emotions inside it. It's as if the vengeful soul of the lives the Kriegsmesser reap has been sealed on the blade itself to make it suffer in eternity.
Nile's heartbeat has been racing since the moment he took out the Kriegsmesser of Agony from the Storage Space. As Nile traced the red line on the centre of the blade of the Kriegsmesser, he could feel an aura of anger, pain, remorse and many other emotions surface on the blade itself. The red line on the Katana of Liberation can make one feel at ease, contrary to the Kriegsmesser of Agony that can make one feel a different kind of negative emotions.
[Level One° Kriegsmesser of Agony: A weapon that came straight from a battlefield. It was filled with the souls of the deceased that the weapon had killed. A great weapon for torture. Has an effect of multiplying the target's pain receptors level. A Peak Level One° Weapon. ]
'Great for torture..huh!' Nile said inside his mind disinclined.
Torture? Nile had seen someone do it in the movie. Torture? He had read something about it before.
In some cases, Nile enjoyed it, especially when it was the protagonist who did the torture to a certain villain. And sometimes, Nile will feel pity for the person tortured, especially if it was the protagonist or at least the protagonist's family, friends or sidekick.
In short, Nile felt bad if the person tortured had done nothing wrong in his opinion, while he would feel great if the person tortured is someone he hates.
Nile's disinclined attitude has been washed away after thinking about it for a while.
Nile thought that resorting to torture might not be a bad thing. If a person deserves torture, then Nile will gladly do it. Though, he doubts if he can do it perfectly. Still, Nile wanted to avoid torturing someone as far as possible.
When Nile took the Kriegsmesser of Agony from the Storage Space, it actually came with a metallic black scabbard. The metallic scabbard was automatically attached on Nile's back. Along with the Saya of the Katana of Liberation, Nile now had two scabbards forming a cross in his back.
Nile sheathed the Kriegsmesser of Agony on its Scabbard. He decided not to use the Kriegsmesser of Agony carelessly. The description said that the Kriegsmesser has the function of multiplying one's pain receptors; it means that even a tiny scratch that came from the Kriegsmesser can make a person feel more pain than the actual size of the wound itself.
Nile stood up and straightened his back. He then stretches his body out as crackles echo in the area. Nile had already finished the hot coffee long ago. Maximo followed suit and stood up as well. The small bucket of Milk has been emptied by Maximo a long time ago as well. Maximo just did not stand up to not disturb Nile. Courtesy to the Earrings of loyalty.
The sun has already shone, marking Nile's sixth day into the zombie world.
Nile was riding Maximo at breakneck speed towards the next Village. Nile did not know when the game of tag between zombie pets and mutated animals would reach them. But Nile will always do his best not to be embroiled in the middle of the horde. Nile has some doubts about this as well, if the game of tag continued yesterday, the two parties involved should have already reached or even passed by the small hut by now.
'Are the zombies not active during the night?' Nile contemplated while riding on Maximo's back.
For the past five nights, Nile had not encountered any zombies during night time. Of course, when night time arrives, Nile will always make sure that he has a place to sleep. It was because Nile was influenced by those zombie novels before that keeps on saying that zombies are more active and more powerful at night.
If it really is the case, then it was logical for the game of tag to not be able to reach the small hut when night came. The System's emergency mission had also only stated that Nile will only have to reach the next Village in order to satisfy the mission's requirements.
In fact, the reason Nile decided to take it easy was mainly because he trusted the System. Nile had known a bit of information about the System from the events that took place yesterday.
First, the System did not want Nile to die. It is either because he still has some use or it's just that the System is really created to help him get stronger. Nile thought the latter is the most likely.
Based on the reward it gives for the mission completion alone. It already looks like a sugar mommy doting on her boyfriend. And second, the System took Nile's life as the priority. The System will notify Nile about an incoming danger that can threaten his life, just like what had happened from before.
That was also partially the reason why Nile dared to stop midway and decided to rest in the small hut. Who knows, it might trigger another emergency mission that came with abundant rewards upon completion.
Nile had realised that if the zombies are really not active at night, then it was better to hunt zombies during that time. He can just change his schedule into being nocturnal if it really is the case.
After a while, Nile was awoken by a low 'moo' from Maximo. Maximo had already slowed down as they were now approaching a settlement.
This is the last Hamlet they need to pass in order to reach the centre of the Village of Hangin. This Hamlet is called Bugnaw. Compared to the almost barren Hamlets from the Village of Ulhi, the amount of houses that are inside this particular Hamlet is definitely a lot.
Nile readied the Katana of Liberation and drew it out from its Saya. The Katana of Liberation's handle is on Nile's right side while the Kriegsmesser of Agony was on the left side.
Nile did not want to use the Kriegsmesser recklessly. Besides, he does not want to inflict any more negative emotions on the already suffering zombies.
Nile and Maximo surveyed the whole Hamlet, and unfortunately, after scouring the whole place, they only find bodies of dead zombies lying everywhere getting eaten by the mutated maggots.
Nile guessed that the game of tag must have already resumed by now. The zombie pets and the mutated animals are slowly lessening the distance between them and Nile, they need to hurry.
Nile did not know how long this would last, but he wanted to make sure that he would survive at the end.
After Maximo ran like there's no tomorrow, they arrived at the Village Centre of Hangin. Smokes were oozing in the houses and one could feel the gloom that surrounds the place.
Unless there is a big fight, the zombies will not purposely destroy the surrounding buildings. Hence the reason why there are only a small number of houses getting wrecked around.
Nile took out his Katana of Liberation, Level One° zombies had the hobby of ambushing their enemies. Maximo slowed down until he was only walking like a snail.
The entrance road to Village Centre of Hangin has two big houses sandwiching the road in between them. Besides the two houses that are visible at the entrance, there are towering trees that pop out close to them. Both of these have the potential of being an ambush spot.
Nile holds his Katana tightly, wary of his surroundings. Maximo seems to be wary as well as its brows are furrowed together while it keeps on glancing around. From time to time, it acted like a dog by sniffing on the ground.
As they grow closer towards the houses, Nile prepares himself for a battle. On the System map, there are three red dots blinking beside them, indicating that there are three zombies close to them. Nile did not just see it yet, but the System Map did.
It must be noted that the System will not point out something it did not see.
After glancing left and right, Nile still had not seen anything. With that, he now had a hunch on where the zombies are.
Looking up above the enormous tree, Nile's guess was spot on as he could see three figures standing on different branches. They stared at Nile and Maximo intently with their greenish eyes.
Maximo had now also noticed the three zombies above. Maximo 'mooed' as he wriggles his body, telling Nile to get off his back.
Nile jumps off and flips backwards to distance himself from Maximo. With the Earrings of Loyalty, Nile could now easily understand what Maximo is implying.
Maximo wanted to show off his newfound prowess by battling three versus one.
Maximo kept on scratching the ground with his front hooves as he stared at the three zombies up above intensely. Maximo snorted and 'mooed' loudly to taunt the zombies. At the back of Maximo, the sledgehammer is held tightly by Maximo's tail, ready to smash some heads again if an opportunity arises.
Seeing Maximo's gesture, the zombies roared in anger and leapt towards Maximo at the same time.
