Chapter 223 His Bestfriend
It was useless. Hiro didn’t see what he was looking for. He didn’t know why they didn’t come today.
“It looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer,” Hiro explained, speaking honestly while looking at Ace’s eyes, which were exactly the same as Liberty’s. This time, Ace just took a deep breath, as if he knew this was going to happen. This time, he could accept it because he was also curious.
The bottle of wine that Ace ordered had arrived, Hiro got his order too. It was the same wine. They then drank the contents of the bottle awkwardly. Neither of them spoke as if they didn’t know where to start the conversation.
“So, how is your relationship with my sister? What do you like about her?” Ace suddenly asked. It was a question that managed to make Hiro cough in surprise.
Hiro patted his chest until he felt much better before calmly answering the unexpected question. “We’ve been together, I mean in a relationship. What do I like about her? I think there are many things I like about her. If I mention them one by one, you will probably lose a lot of your precious time.”
Ace chuckled at Hiro’s chosen answer. He drank the wine again from the bottle directly and turned to look at the view around him.
Players of all ages, from the young to the old, had gathered at the tavern to enjoy a warm evening’s entertainment without fear of getting a kidney or any disease from playing with the same women. All of that could only be done in the game world because if they did it in the real world, they might not have the courage to do that unless they want to die quickly.
“I still can’t believe that our father created this perfect world,” Ace muttered, suddenly changing the subject of their conversation to something else. However, Hiro didn’t really like that kind of topic. Even so, Hiro had to restrain himself because whatever Ace would talk about, it meant the time they spent in that place would be longer. And what he needed right now was to buy time for as long as possible.
“When we were little, he really didn’t have time for us. Even for just a second. Now that I’ve grown up, I’m starting to understand why he did it back then.” Ace shook his head. He couldn’t stop drinking while talking about his childhood life.
“I really had no idea that Liberty had been sick since birth, and my father was doing everything he could to save her. Every day, he uses his brain to save his daughter, whom he doesn’t even get to say hello to on normal days.”
“I don’t know if it’s a stupid thing or quite a heroic thing after knowing all his efforts finally managed to save so many people up to this moment. I used to hate him so much, you know? He really never existed in my life. A very bad father to his children. But now, I realize that I was very selfish back then. Seeing his success now makes me the proudest son of his father.”
“There are a lot of kids out there who aren’t as lucky as Liberty. And I always turned a blind eye to that until I studied to become a doctor because of the lineage that forced me to continue that line. It was impossible for Liberty because she was already very weak by then. I’m the only successor.”
Hiro continued to observe the movements of Ace who was pouring out his heart with various types of emotions mixed into one, as if he had been holding it in all this time without telling anyone. However, for some reason, he told Hiro about his life story right now even though they were considered an enemy before.
“The stupidest thing is the dream I had in the past. I wish Liberty was never born because she was too weak. She didn’t even have the energy to play with me when we were little. At that time, I scolded the girl and told her that I wanted a little brother more than a sister because they were too whiny and weak.” Ace chuckled, feeling stupid with himself in those days.
“Even though I should feel very lucky because I got a very beautiful and loving sister that no one else had.”
Thud! Crash!!!
An unknown man accidentally nudged Ace’s body so hard that the bottle he was holding fell and broke on the floor.
“Aren’t you using your eyes? Look at where you’re sitting! This is the way for the visitor!” snapped the half-drunk man that made Ace reflexively trigger to take out his weapon and split the unknown player’s body into two. However, Hiro quickly held Ace’s hand because there was something else that caught his attention more than the drunk man.
“Follow me,” asked Hiro, then pulled Ace’s hand, ignoring the drunk man who was now shouting at them both in a loud voice before staggering and falling into the hands of two hot bunny girls. Those two women dragged him out of the Moonlight Tavern right away.
When the commotion happened, three people in black robes were seen sneaking into the tavern. What made their arrival strange was that the hot bunny girl NPCs didn’t disturb them when they came, as if they were special members of the tavern who got a special treatment.
Besides, the strange movement of the drunkard player who nudged Ace before was also suspicious in Hiro’s eyes. It was as if the man purposely created a commotion so that no one would notice the three black-robed players entering the tavern.
After confirming that the three suspicious players went up the dark stairs without any lighting, Hiro walked with Ace, who had followed him behind in silence. He was still annoyed that he didn’t have time to avenge the drunken man.
“Sshhh… we better be quiet for a while,” Hiro whispered, giving a warning, and Ace nodded in agreement.
Hiro walked up the stairs very slowly so as not to make any unwanted squeaking noises. And Ace did the same. Until the two of them were in front of an old door which did not close properly right now so that both Hiro and Ace could hear what the suspicious people were talking about.
“We had already used the attack method as we planned, but it still failed,” said a man in a growling voice. He sounded very angry.
However, the second voice actually managed to make Hiro and Ace reflexively look at each other in surprise.
“NightFall and his friends, they are very annoying.”
And it was a voice that Ace knew so well that he didn’t need to examine the face of the person hidden in the half-face mask worn by the person who had just spoken.
“Dimitri.”
