Chapter 379: Kill order
Seeing everyone's silence, the leader of this camp turned his head to the side, signaling his guard to start the trial. The man stepped forward and started speaking.
"You are now standing in the presence of chief Baani, leader of camp Ahida, and one of the 7 sons of Godmother.
As per the laws of Phronesia, before the trial for prisoner 'Rio Blake' and prisoner 'Valtor Shade' officially starts, the Guilt Keeper will now list all their crimes.
If anyone has any questions, you can speak once the list is over."
As the bodyguard's words were over, an old man with his body covered in white strings and barely supported by a wooden staff, came forward holding a scroll in hand. Yet all that weakness visible to eyes, had no sign of effects on his thunder-like voice.
"Sins of these humans are as following, murder of 276 people from the dark tribe. - Killing of 20 soldiers along with intentional injuries on 37 others from the Shin platoon. - Damage to the clan's property and resources amounting up to 2 million. - As the war for mother's grace comes near, their attacks have inflicted extra damage on the morale of everyone else.
Causing riots and distress amongst our people who believe their arrival a sign of bad omen."
… "You can all discuss the punishments amongst yourself now." Once done with his list the oldie turned around and then slowly walked away. His each step giving Rio a sense that it might be his last.
[He's not gonna fall host, stop staring.]
'But he looks…'
[He had his life energy drained by the mark over his chest. He's a puppet. So technically he's not even alive to begin with.]
'So is that why everyone here respects him?'
[Not him, but maybe the one who controls him.]
'Hmm'
"Forgive my impudence, but it seems the guilt keeper has forgotten to add the crime of them having access to the forbidden dark magic."
"Yes, as we've all seen, these two hold the cursed energy banned by the godmother."
"We should kill them. Sacrifice their bodies and use their blood as offering for the spirits."
"Yes, maybe the spirits will be pleased and we may receive their protection in the oncoming war."
All the representatives except the dark leader spoke in line and showed their stance. In their opinion killing these outlanders was the best option to appease the spirits.
The leader's guard stepped forward again and asked for a vote, and started announcing the crime sentence. From beginning to end of trial, the leader kept his eyes closed, seemingly asleep. Yet just when the decision was about to be announced, he opened his eyes in confusion and stared at Rio, who in turn raised the corners of his mouth in a smile.
"Is something the issue, chief?"
"What happened?"
"Did that human do something again?"
Hushed whispers rang through the five men who noticed their leader's abnormality, yet received no response.
The leader, Baani disappeared from his place and appeared in front of Rio the next instant, making everyone even more confused.
Rio and Baani both looked at each other, each trying to measure up the tricks and threat of other.
A small golden dot appeared deep within Rio's dark pupils as he activated his 'True Sight' skill. Making the whole world in his vision turn black and white.
When he was outside the city he couldn't see things clearly, as his sight was blocked by a barrier soon, but now he could finally see everything clearly.
Tiny invisible particles started appearing in front of his eyes, gathering together, forming chains, veins all over the atmosphere.
The sky, the ground, the people - all of it was like covered in a big chain, connecting this whole _ planet together.
As Rio's pupils turned completely golden, Baani who was staring right at him, couldn't help but avert his eyes, feeling a tingling pain that ran through his nerves.
He looked down at the ground in confusion, and next second, all the calm on his face disappeared, replaced by a sense of shock and horror.
"You dare…" Baani shouted, his voice filled with anger, burned the veil on his face until it disappeared in tiny particles.
Rio, who was staring at the sky following the movements of the mysterious chains, turned his head back and was finally able to take a clear look at this leader's face, his skin covered in wrinkles, was filled with green liquid, like there were living worms wiggling underneath.
"Urghh" Despite everything that he's seen and witnessed, Rio still couldn't help but look away in disgust.
But this action of his only made the famed chief even more angry, as he directly grabbed him by the throat and lifted him up from the ground.
The intensity of anger in his eyes, broke the protection armor before it even properly formed around Rio.
"So you noticed huh." Rio said as he raised his hand and moved it downward. His sword appeared directly in his palms, and swiftly followed its master's movements.
Under Baani's mocking eyes, the sword lit up in black flames of hell right before chopping his hand like slicing butter.
"Hell flames, so you really are the cursed one." Baani said as he stepped back, his cut off arm regenerating at unbelievable speeds.
Everyone around the trial grounds who just woke up from their shock after seeing their leader getting attacked, instantly went into another frenzy, hearing the words 'cursed one'.
In the lands of Phronesia there's an old saying that's been passed from one generation to another. Despite their constant wars which causes camps and clans to be erased at every turn, that doom foretelling prophecy is what remains forever.
[ From realms of death, a spawn will rise,
The cursed one with burning eyes.
His magic dark, his soul a flame,
All life will fall beneath his name. ]
There are a million different ways to speak about it, as every poet gives it his own tone and words. But the meaning remains the same.
That one day someone will come holding dark magic and flames of hell, who will burn the world and end all life.
Surprisingly Rio here ticked all those boxes.
"Is it really him?"
"Is the world really about to end?"
"God, he's gonna kill us all."
"Call the spirits, wake up the godmother, we need to kill the cursed one before he wipes everyone out."
"It's over. No one can save us."
"I'm_ I_ don't wanna die."
"Isn't the cursed one weak? The Shin army caught him. I knew that prophecy was fake. I'll prove it after killing him."
"The prophecy it's true. The ancestors didn't lie."
"We're doomed."
All kinds of voices rang in the crowd, some filled with awe, some in confusion, while some trembling in fear.
Hearing their murmurs Rio turned his head in confusion, forgetting to close his true eyes, he saw a surprising scene.
The chains over every person's head started shaking in the air, before disappearing slowly.
Wherever his gaze passed, people started falling down, unconscious, dead, no one knows.
His act causing riots among the army, igniting another wave of fear in the hearts of natives.
'What's happening here?'
A question came to everyone's eyes, including Rio's.
Before every 'dead' woke up and rushed towards Rio. Their eyes bloodshot, minds in frenzy. Only one voice echoing in their heads constantly, asking them to kill him.
The whole planet seemed to suddenly turn silent for a second, as a kill order was placed directly on Rio's head by the world's will.
