Chapter 319
319 Surprise Gone Wrong
****************
CHAPTER 319
They had gotten too distracted by so many things during this fight and they did not bother to waste their thoughts with the others around them both.
Whether Astoria liked it or not, having that distraction around had occurred due to what she inhaled during the fight and now it was disturbing all of her senses.
She swept her gaze across everyone, hinting at them silently.
Minerva stood her ground, spearing her hands by her side and waiting for Astoria’s go-ahead.
Astoria brought her gaze back and lingered on Aramis. Out of all the dragons present, only his powers were much situated in pinpointing things and getting this fight in their control.
She did not need Xander to ring the bell in their head before she understood just how important this fight was.
The thudding of boots against the ground came louder and closer by the second but no one moved.
.....
Gradually, Astoria closed her eyes, taking the perfect count of them all until the last moment.
The creak of the door was heard, followed by a loud bang. At the same time, Astoria hollered in her mind, alerting the others of the count.
“Five hundred. Two hundred out and fighting. Minerva... Attack!”
Minerva’s closed eyes flew back open as she dashed off straight for the men who stood, confused for the best part at the scene before them.
“You heard her,” Xander called out in a low growl. “Attack!”
Zane’s eyes dimmed at the troop who entered with none other than his beloved father leading them.
He had gone through a great deal, trying his best to get the silver bullets in time and ready for a fight should the dragons show up.
He was the least worried about anything at this point as he noticed the few dragons present.
“On my count, fire!” Zane’s voice reigned.
By the time he yelled out his order, Minerva had moved at a speed unknown to the human eyes and stood in the middle of all the men present.
They began spreading out without a second thought, going around in a circle, shooting at the dragons while the others waited for their turn to disperse out.
By the time they noticed her strange presence amongst them, it was too late.
Her wings and hands spread out to the side with her head lifted up as her lips parted.
“On you!” One of the soldiers announced to the others, cracking his gun.
At the same time, she reached deep within, calling out her inner voice as she screamed loud and sharp.
Taking their positions, the others lunged for the remaining men who were far from Minerva receiving less of the brain damage that their mates were suffering.
Though within minutes it turned into a gruesome battle as the dragons took all of their time to slash through the men, killing them one by one without mercy.
On the other hand, Jade, Asia and Macy had their fair share of battling through the new hoards of men shooting and fighting them while they rushed over to Jade.
“Time?”
“Yeah, we need to join them before either Zale or Zain make their escape.”
Nodding their heads at her suggestion, they took a different route hoping to block and intercept Zane.
By the time most of the men they had down there were brutally killed and the others sprawled out on the ground after listening to Minerva’s voice, they heard the sound of a gun going off, peeling their gazes in that direction.
Slowly, the men that were with Zane earlier, himself and five more guards slowly backed away to the bloodstained scene.
Xander’s eyes narrowed further, trying to use his sharp senses to figure out what was going on until he saw three ladies with their guns pointed at the men closing in on them.
“Jade,” Xander called out when they all came to full view.
As much as he did not say anything to her, he spoke to her through their mate bond, hoping to reach out to her before she gave in to her desires and did the unthinkable.
“Jade.”
“I am sorry Xander. This is the moment I have been waiting for.”
“My love.”
A small smile spread out on her lips but she blocked Xander out of her head instead and exhaled deeply.
“Zane Anders! I wonder, hahaha it’s been what? How many months?”
She snickered a question, her eyes were void of any humour.
“Months? Just a short while actually,” Zane smiled, licking his lips.
The men with him had their guns stretched out and ready to shoot, awaiting his orders while the others cowered behind him.
“Yeah. Missed me?”
“Why would I when I can order you dead, right here and now?”
“I wouldn’t be so sharp-tongued if I were you,” Asia advised, cracking her gun while aiming for his men. “I would take them out in thirty seconds.”
“Always the protective bodyguard I see,” Zane noted with a smile. “However, I wonder if you two really can protect her from my hands.”
“I wouldn’t make more threats if I were you, Zale Anders. She just might force a bullet through your brain if you push her,” Xander warned.
Not that he would not be eager for Jade to. But he wished for a better situation.
“If I push her? Then watch me, Dragon Lord Xander.”
Everyone watched carefully, trying not to make any wrong moves that would lead to the immediate killing of Jade and the others.
Unknown to them, Zane had made his move, signalling to one of his men by his right as he moved swiftly, knocking Macy’s gun from her hand and capturing her, pointing his gun to her head instead.
Everything had happened swiftly before Jade or Asia could react in time to protect their friend.
Immediately, Asia pointed her gun at the man, pulling out a second gun from her back and aiming it at the other men.
“One wrong move, darling Asia and I would have her head blown.”
Xander’s grip tightened at his side as he watched.
Aramis on the other felt his insides burn, hearing a man calling Asia, darling. His dragon immediately became irritated in anticipation.
“Let her go and I will not shoot you,” Jade threatened.
“Even if you had that gun pointed right at me you cannot do anything more than a dead rat,” Zane teased.
“I would.”
She clicked her gun, ready to make the next click fire when she heard Xander’s voice in her head.
“Jade, please, don’t do it.”
“I can’t. He is going to kill Macy. I can’t have anyone dying just like the way my family died ever again.”
“No. Please. I am sorry Xander. I have to put an end to this.”
“He won’t. I would...”
“You are too weak Jade Frost. You could not kill me before. You can’t now. You should have then because now, I would have you watch as I take another of your loved ones away right before your eyes.”
Suddenly they heard a click of a gun from behind Jade and soon the wielder stepped out from where he had been hiding with a gun pointed right at her head.
Without bothering to look behind her, Jade took a step closer to Zane, making sure her aim would not miss, not for any condition.
“Not one more step, Frost’s biggest mistake.”
Hearing her family name being mentioned and the insult to her person, her eyes dimmed as she tried to pinpoint the voice to its owner.
“I’ll put a bullet through your head before you even dare to shoot my son.”
