MY 10,000× DIMENSIONAL SYSTEM

Chapter 39 Backstory

Backstory

1 Month Later

The Sinestra Auction had arrived.

This was one of the few things that wasn't hidden from the public despite being so high profile. But the public didn't particularly care since they were never informed of the details and few knew what it even entailed.

On the other hand though, those powerful and authoritative entities around the world were buzzing with excitement, and for good reason.

In this Auction, the items that were set to appear were things that could easily change the situation of a prominent kingdom for the better.

Items that could extend one's life expectancy by an incredible amount, resources that could make breaking through rank barriers easier than breathing, weapons that in the right hands, could overthrow entire powerhouses.

In short, in the Sinestra Auction, even the most mundane items set to appear would be things that could shake the world. And as such, it was only natural for those beings that had incredible distinctions to participate.

And through some weird coincidences, Christopher ended up being one of the people to attend.

He stared at the golden invitation card and nodded then turned around and saw his companions chatting idly.

They weren't in his dimension and were instead on top of a mountain outside the capital. However, something to note was that, for starters, they were all wearing masks similar to his mask of the Dreamer. And second, Umbra and Chiara weren't there.

Or rather, they were, but they weren't in their dragon forms.

The two shortest people there looked to be kids. One with black hair wearing a pair of black pants, black shirt, and black inner jacket for a suit. Clearly this was Umbra in his human form.

His sister had long white hair with a dazzling white dress which, didn't hug any curves as obviously she was a child, but her skin was incredibly fair and basically begged to be touchedn/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

The most eye catching thing though, was that in their masks, there were two holes, and through the holes, their horns could be seen protruding. Umbra with his Black horns and Chiara with her White.

Another thing was that those two weren't the only ones with human forms as the Arch-Lich Thanatos also had a human form. However most of it was obscured by his Deathweaver's Mantle.

Belladonna, Kim, and Silver had their masks as well and in general, the group was eye-catching.

Some might wonder if Christopher would be able to bring so many people with him to such a high profile Auction. However, the number of invites given out were incredibly small, so it was actually encouraged for those invited to bring people with them. Though certain criteria had to be met like strength level, which the squad easily passed.

'Master, I'm Bored.' Christopher resisted the urge to sigh as he felt Scarlet's presence in his mind. He could clearly feel the weapon's desire to kill something causing him to roll his eyes and rub his arm where his tattoo was.

'You keep saying that, I dedicated a good chunk of this month to killing monsters to satisfy you.' He scolded and the feedback he received was filled with indignation and some entitlement. Like a brat.

'But that's not fair!' He could practically see the weapon pouting and chuckled to himself.

'Just be patient alright? We'll get you something to kill eventually.' He said gently and he felt some reluctance which gradually became acceptance.

'Alright.' The response made Christopher let out a small relieved sigh as the weapon's consciousness didn't try to push for anything. Though he knew he could just say no outright, doing so would leave a bitter taste in his mouth, especially since he could do it in a way that would make the other party not feel bad.

"Master." Christopher turned his head to the side to see Kim walk up beside him, her hands clasped behind her back.

She looked quite pretty in her armor, even with the mask covering her face.

Her tail flicked to the side and her ears twitched as she came up to him.

"Yeah?" Christopher turned to her curiously and he heard her giggle slightly.

"I just wanted to say, you look really cool right now." Her statement caused him to raise a brow.

He looked cool?

He glanced down and saw his gear that had taken the form of a long coat flapping gently in the wind, his hands were in his pockets and his shoulders were raised high. A sign of unconscious confidence.

With the background of nature, he indeed looked really cool.

"Oh, um. Thanks?" He replied, not quite sure on how to feel about the compliment.

Kim giggled some more.

"You aren't very used to compliments, huh Master?" She teased and Christopher's mouth twitched. Both because he was curious as to where the timid cat girl had gone, and because she was absolutely correct.

Sure he'd received lots of attention in this world due to his strength and all that, but he was so compliment deprived from earth that he didn't know how to feel about the gesture even now.

So he just shrugged at her question which elicited another giggle from her before she stared straight ahead.

"You have a lot on your mind." She said as a matter of fact and not a question. Christopher blinked.

"What makes you think so?" His question made her shrug.

"Your body language says it all. You behave laid back, and to some degree, you are. But everything you do has purpose. Even if you aren't thinking about it consciously, you're moving towards a set goal." Christopher fell silent. Then he sighed.

"You're smarter than you look." She gasped.

"What does that mean?!" She exclaimed and Christopher laughed before exhaling.

"Nah, you're right. Read me perfectly even. I'm doing all of this because I have a goal in mind, but I'm trying my best not to rush because I don't want to become painfully obsessed with what I'm trying to achieve, neglecting everything else around me in the process." He explained calmly and Kim nodded.

"You know Master, I never said anything about it, but my backstory is as tragic as you can guess." She shrugged.

"I wasn't an orphan to begin with, my parents were still alive until I was ten, and even though we certainly weren't wealthy, we were happy. So for a while, I was content, with my goal being to grow up and make my parents happy, so I learned where I could…" Her tone grew quieter the more she spoke.

"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." Christopher said gently, but she shook her head.

"I'm over it now. And I feel like I owe it to you with all you've done for me, even though telling you my past doesn't do much in the grand scheme of things." She said with almost a hint of self-mockery and Christopher was silent before gesturing for her to go on.

"Anyway, I learned where I could because I intended to become a mage, and I heard that mages were very well learned besides their ability to cast down massive attacks and all that. So I kept doing that and my parents supported me. I'd go to the library everyday to learn what I could about the world and magic." She sighed.

"One day though, I went and came back a little later because of the rain. I wasn't worried though because I was sure my parents wouldn't be mad when I came back. And I eventually did, and I smelled iron." She went silent and Christopher could guess the rest.

"How did it happen?" He asked calmly.

"Some rich guy or something. I don't know. All I gathered was that my father had accidentally offended a noble over something." She laughed slightly.

"How insane is that? Killing two people over an offense? Obviously I was devastated. My parents were dead and soon the house was claimed by the landlords that didn't give me a second glance. And I was forced to fend for myself and did some… unsavory things to get by. And at some point, I just got tired of it all and wished for death." At this point, she turned to him directly.

"And then you found me." Christopher stared at the girl in front of him with a mix of emotions.

She looked the same, but after all of that, she somehow seemed more… vulnerable and small. It was even more tragic when one realised that she wasn't even an adult yet. And even then, she went through so much.

"So, that's my story. The random demihuman from the black cat tribe whom you saved." She said and spread her arms, her voice pretty much indifferent.

Christopher still didn't say anything, instead, he walked in front of her, and then pulled her into a deep hug.

The gesture caught her off guard and she was momentarily stunned.

"You're hurting a lot. I doubt I can take the pain away, and what you went through is something that will hunt you for an unbelievably long amount of time." He said softly.

"But, you're my subordinate, and it's my job to make you feel better, even if just by a small bit. So it's fine to let go. Cry if you wanna cry, scream if you wanna scream. No one will judge you here. Not now and not ever. You're safe." His words made her feel like she'd been hit by a bolt of lightning and she didn't even know when she started hugging Christopher back, clinging onto him like a lifeline.

"Y-You mean it?" Her previous indifferent tone was gone and replaced with one filled with pain and hesitation.

Christopher looked down at her and sent his mask into his subspace, allowing her to see his face directly. He smiled softly and nodded.

"Yeah, I mean it." Her body started to tremble and she put her head on his chest. It was soft at first, her sobs.

But very soon, she started to weep on him and mumble incomprehensible words. Her tail was down and her tears drooped as she clenched onto him tightly.

Christopher just stood there and let her vent, his hand gently rubbing circles on her back.

The others watched this in silence. No jokes or attempts were made to comfort her as it was clear she needed to let her emotions out, and then keeping silent was their respect for her.

And so, she cried.
