Chapter 311 311: Theory Class
Tryst Academy
Classroom A1
The academy has a complete set of facilities. There are cultivation rooms, training rooms, and classrooms amongst many others
Today is the first class of Rezen's batch and they were asked to go to their classroom where an Assistant Instructor is there to teach them
The classroom has rows and rows of seats and tables. At the front was a wide board on which the Instructor could write down the things that they teach
"Good morning to everyone. I am your Assistant Instructor, Terran Miles, I would be your magic theory teacher. I am expecting all of you to listen attentively" the male Instructor said and he didn't waste any time
When it comes to matters that have to do with the strength of the city's mages, they don't beat around the bush much as time is necessary for mages to grow strong no matter how talented they are
On the board, the Assistant Instructor started writing three words and encloses them in a circle before drawing arrows, showing that they are connected with each other
The words on the board were Will, Mana, and Wisdom
"Now, most mages think that all they have to do to use magic is to use their will to visualize what they want to achieve and use mana as fuel to turn their imagination into reality. However, that is a narrow way of seeing things"
"Sure, you can reach the peak of the Junior Rank and even the Senior Rank if you are talented enough while only learning the bare minimum about magic. I mean, everyone is aware of how we mages advanced. Use a magic circle that shows to the universe that you understood the bare minimum, hurt yourself, and hope that the blessing of mana will dawn upon you. It's that easy"
"However, being contented with only learning the bare minimum wouldn't do a mage good and in the long-term, this might even hinder their progress. We must also focus on our Wisdom and this includes learning the mysteries of magic and at the same time, having the ability to enact these theories into reality"
"Why do you think even at the same rank if mages cast the same spell, there would be the stronger and weaker one? It might be because they use more mana to use magic or they consumed resources to strengthen their magic. However, that's not all the reason. Some mages are stronger than others even at the same rank and also while using the same magic because of their Wisdom. They know, understand, and use the mysteries of magic better than their peers!"
To the poor and ignorant, the Assistant Instructors' teachings were like the Holy Grail. Even Rezen was carefully listening since he does not have a lot of chance to be taught the more advanced knowledge verbally
However, the students that came from a better background were showing looks of boredom. This was something that the mages of their families already taught them. They don't have the desire to listen
These teachings might be new and an eye-opener to the poor but the rich already know about it. They entered the academy so that they will have access to the more advanced information, and precious resources that even their family cannot get, honor, etc.
They are not interested in the things that they already have. Of course, the Assistant Instructor can see that not many students are listening attentively to him as his eyes made sure to look at each and every one of them
However, despite the disrespect, the Instructor continue to teach his lesson although few people were listening to him
Just like that, an hour and a half passes by with the Instructor teaching the students and it was time for their next class
The attitude of the students immediately turned 180 degrees turn. From being bored, they became very excited as the next lesson is a practical training class. In there, they have the chance to showcase their powerful magic and hope that they would catch the eyes of the academy's executives
They want to rise above their classmates and be hailed as the most talented among them
As if the Assistant Instructor can read their minds, he smirked at them and before he dismissed the class, he tap his hand on the table to gather their attention
"Now, I know all of you are excited with the practical training class but before that, all of you have something to wear. This is required and those that will not wear it, well, all I can say is that you will not end well" the Assistant Instructor said and he waved his hand above his table
On the table, a wooden box appeared and he opened this box to reveal tens of bracelets. There's enough for all the fifty students in the class
"Wear these bracelets, it's required in your next class" the Instructor said and with a wave of his hand, the bracelets floated toward each and every student
The curios students curiously wore the bracelets and as soon as they did so they realized that something weird happen to them
The students tried to gather their mana but it felt as if they were walking on a muddy pond. Originally, they are all skillful at controlling their mana but this time, their palms only glowed a bit with a blue color before their mana dissipated
"What the hell is this?!"
"I can't control my mana!"
"Are these bracelets blocking our magic?!"
The students were in an uproar and they tried to remove the damned bracelets but none of them are able to do so
"If you listened to me earlier, it wouldn't be hard to understand what these bracelets are for. Didn't I say that despite being at the same rank and using the same kind of magic, there are always the stronger and weaker mages because one of them has better wisdom than the other?"
"For your practical training class, you will use the theory that I just taught you. The amount of mana you can control and how well you can control them would be toned down and all of you will be at the same level. It doesn't matter if you have a vast mana capacity or if you are an expert at mana control. Unless you understand magic theories well enough, you will not be able to rise above your classmates. No matter what magic you use, it will have the same power as your classmates"
The Assistant Instructor smirked at the students as if he was paying them back for their disrespect
This is a second-rate academy! Even if it's just a theory class, no student can slack off! They are idiots if they think that attending a magic academy is as easy as the training that their families provided. There are plenty of reasons why even the rich and powerful want their children to enter prestigious academies!
"And oh, one more thing, to go to your next class, you will have to use your flying sticks. Your next class normally takes 10 minutes of flying time from here but depending on whether you are Spirit Mages, Body Mages, or Deviant Mages, you have to travel part of that 10 minutes using your flying sticks. And before I forgot, there's a punishment for the last student that will arrive so you better move now"
As soon as the Instructor said that, the students took a look at their student tokens to check the time they need to travel using their flying sticks
Normally, ten minutes on their flying sticks are no problem for them. However, things are currently different because of the bracelets that they are wearing
Rezen checked his own student token and saw that he has to fly 6 minutes out of the 10 minutes. Can he even fly for that long while wearing these bracelets?
If he is in this situation then... he turned to look at Treen that was as calm as before as if he is not afraid of getting punished
"Are you not worried?" Rezen asked as he stood up and readied his own flying stick
"Worried? Hahaha, no! I have my girl's token. I'm basically exempted to every punishment though that also means I can't receive any rewards that they will give out. But considering how many talented mages are here, I don't really think that I have the chance to win even if I do my best" Treen said leisurely and Rezen can only shake his head
Being the man of the Headmaster is really something!
"Don't worry about me, go! You have to be the fastest! Bring honor to our tribe!"
At that, Rezen nodded his head. He doesn't have time to waste. Even if he cannot beat everyone to become the first placer, he should at least prevent himself from being placed as the last student to reach the next class. If not, he would just receive even more criticism than before
