Chapter 501: 500: Hooked (Extra Update)

Chapter 501: Chapter 500: Hooked (Extra Update)

Ye Wenhan always felt uneasy about Song Zhizhi.

But he had to admit, Song Zhizhi had been very thoughtful.

Other people also started to agree, thinking Song Zhizhi’s proposal was a good one.

Song Zhizhi continued, “There are two plans. The first is to directly subsidize individuals and enterprises in cash, that is, to compensate according to the current market price. The second is to give individuals and enterprises discounts, providing free office space and housing for 3-5 years.”

Ye Wenhan was pondering, what exactly was Song Zhizhi’s purpose for all of this.

At this moment, he felt that what Song Zhizhi was saying made sense. But he wasn’t foolish enough to really not know how hostile Song Zhizhi was to him; he didn’t think Song Zhizhi would sincerely I help him.

After Song Zhizhi finished expressing her thoughts, the meeting became somewhat stiff due to Ye Wenhan’s lack of response.

Nobody dared to make a decision for Ye Wenhan, everyone just waited for his decision.

At this moment, Ye Wenhan was genuinely torn. Before, he could have consulted Qian Guanshu, but now he didn’t know who to turn to.

But the idea that from now on, whatever he said would be final, and he no longer had to appease Qian Guanshu made him feel somewhat relieved.

He looked thoughtful as he asked the CEO, “President Yue, what do you think?”

Yue Dong quickly responded, “Mr. Ye, I think Manager Song’s plan is viable. Reconstruction and demolition have always been troublesome. As we are currently replanning Jin City and moving the businesses to the business district, it is indeed appropriate to give some preferential treatment to the relocated enterprises. I personally agree more with the second option.

Ye Wenhan was somewhat hesitant.

His hesitancy was entirely based on the feeling that Song Zhizhi would not help him from the perspective of Commercial Management, not because her plan had any flaws.

It took him a while to say, “Since everyone thinks Song Zhizhi’s proposal is good, then we’ll go with Song Zhizhi’s second proposal. The project’s main person in charge will still be President Yue, with the rest assisting accordingly. The matters coming up will be fully handled by President Yue, but I want to be updated on progress twice a week, and all major elements of the project reported and signed by me.”

“Yes.” Yue Dong responded obediently.

Ye Wenhan said, “Everyone else can go now, Song Zhizhi, please stay.”

The rest left obediently.

Leaving only Song Zhizhi and Ye Wenhan in the meeting room.

Ye Wenhan stared directly at Song Zhizhi and said without hiding his suspicion, “What exactly are you up to?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Mr. Ye?”

“You certainly don’t have such good intentions.”

“Are you referring to the demolition and reconstruction?”

“Yes.”

“Mr. Ye, don’t suspect others of ill intentions based on your own. I admit that I am incompatible with you, but I am clear about public and private matters. Standing from the perspective of Commercial Management, I will certainly fulfill my duties, otherwise, it would be loss to the state. I don’t have as much audacity as you Mr. Ye, to disregard others and protect only my own interests.” Song Zhizhi mocked.

Ye Wenhan’s face darkened, he knew exactly what Song Zhizhi was insinuating.

He even wondered whether Song Zhizhi knew that Qian Guanshu had been killed by his own hand.

He said, “I hope that’s the case. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being impolite, Song Zhizhi.”

“I’ve heard that too many times. Mr. Ye, if you have the ability, bring it on. If you don’t, it would be best to keep your mouth shut. After all, with your current ability, it would be difficult for you to effectively manage Commercial Management. Mr. Ye, you should think carefully about what you should do next.”

Having said that, Song Zhizhi walked out.

She was deliberately provoking Ye Wenhan. Ye Wenhan had been oppressed all his life, and now that no one was controlling him, he was eager to exercise his power and experience the thrill of being at the pinnacle of power.

As such, Ye Wenhan was easily baited.

Ye Wenhan watched Song Zhizhi’s retreating figure, his face dark, but it seemed like he had been persuaded by Song Zhizhi.

You have to admit, all this time, Song Zhizhi’s actions in Commercial Management, though disruptive, were always from the company’s perspective. Qian Guanshu had said before that Song Zhizhi was clever enough to have a good grasp of the most crucial decisions for Commercial Management, and indeed they all benefited the company. She mentioned that this woman could be used by Commercial Management and it would lighten their burden.

Since Qian Guanshu had said that, he would give them the benefit of doubt for once!

Thus, the renovation of Jin City’s old town began in full swing.

For the citizens, this was really a great benefit.

The old town area was often congested, and during peak hours, it would take at least two hours to get out. This problem had existed for years, and now it was finally being renovated, which was good for both the citizens and businesses. The relocation compensation was generous, and free offices and residences were offered. This gigantic project encountered little opposition, and the media even complimented Ye Wenhan for really working for the people.

Ye Wenhan was in a great mood when he saw these news reports.

Before, Qian Guanshu had always restricted what he could do, claiming it was due to his lack of capabilities. He even said that Ye Wenhan wouldn’t live a day without him. At the time, Ye Wenhan was truly deceived. Qian Guanshu probably just wanted to keep the power for himself and didn’t truly see him as his own son.

He reveled in the praise he received during this period.

Song Zhizhi was also looking at her phone, reading the news and the praise.

All this was arranged by Song Zhizhi and Yin Qin.

Yin Qin was completely against writing eulogies for Ye Wenhan. He asked Song Zhizhi if she was trying to be green grass in the heart of Ji Baijian. But with one phone call from Ji Baijian, Yin Qin obediently did as told.

He wondered how old he had to be until he stopped being at Ji Baijian’s beck and call.

Habit was truly a fearsome thing.

Yin Qin sat in his office, thinking with a sense of unease.

The casting for “Hall of Heaven” was now on hold, the final match reached a 2.5 viewer rating, breaking the national record for the year. After the competition, the filming of the “Hall of Heaven” TV series began. As a producer, Yin Qin occasionally visited the set to check the progress and continued to manage the Milky Way’s various affairs, which kept him quite busy.

Someone knocked on the office door.

“Come in.”

Ji Baixin walked into Yin Qin’s office.

In the half month since the unpleasant incident, their relationship had improved. There was no more arguing or fighting over unnecessary things. Yin Qin tried to finish work on time to cook dinner with Ji Baixin. Yin Qin didn’t have any talent for cooking. He just helped with menial tasks, and then washed the dishes after dinner. They were spending peaceful and harmonious days together, a situation which Yin Qin was gradually, gradually getting used to.

“What brings you here?” Yin Qin asked with a smile when he saw her.

“I have a few main costumes from ‘Hall of Heaven’ to show you,” Ji Baixin said, followed by her assistant and a few other designers.

Yin Qin was somewhat surprised.

For a long time, Ji Baixin had shut herself in at home, as if wanting to sever ties with the outside world. He didn’t urge her to interact with the world or deal with outsiders, even though he believed she could try. To his surprise, she suddenly returned to work.

“I’ve been resting for too long; any more and my bones will go lazy,” Ji Baixin said.

“That’s because Chairman Yin spoils you,” one of her underling designers teased playfully.

Ji Baixin seemed a bit embarrassed.

Yin Qin chuckled and added to the lively atmosphere, “You managed to figure that out?”

“Please, the whole nation knows that Chairman Yin is head over heels for our boss,” someone else piped in.

Yin Qin’s smile froze for an instant before he slowly said with a look of resignation, “I guess I can’t show off in front of outsiders anymore”.

Everyone else couldn’t help laughing.

Yin Qin was really good at making himself at home and adjusting the atmosphere; in no time, the whole office was full of laughter.

Wu Meili served tea to everyone.

She didn’t feel quite right.

She felt her chairman favored Ji Baixin so much that he even tried to please the people around her.

She didn’t understand what made Ji Baixin better than Luo Xiaolang apart from her good looks.

She had been watching Luo Xiaolang’s live streams lately.

Although Luo Xiaolang had joined the national team, she still spent two hours every day playing games. The number of viewers, gift-givers, and fans all increased, yet Luo Xiaolang stayed humble. Whether people were criticizing or praising her, she stayed focused on her game, never influenced by any external factors. Initially, some said Luo Xiaolang was just pretending to be calm. However, everyone eventually accepted that she simply was.

It seemed that she had low aspirations beyond doing what she felt like.

Anyway, Wu Meili was genuinely drawn to Luo Xiaolang’s ability to be so sober and aloof amid such complex monetary desires, to the point she respected her immerseurably.

After making tea, Wu Meili respectfully left Yin Qin’s office.

Ji Baixin was still discussing her design concepts.

When she finished, she looked seriously at Yin Qin. “Are you satisfied?” she asked.

“Very,” Yin Qin affirmed.

“I’m being serious.” Ji Baixin held herself to high standards in her work.

“Do I not seem serious to you?” Yin Qin countered.

Their interaction appeared to the other designers as playful flirting, and they chuckled.

Ji Baixin felt a little shy once more.

She cleared her throat and said, “If you’re satisfied, then we’ll begin production.”

“Okay, but remember not to overwork yourself,” Yin Qin cautioned.

The others grinned knowingly.

Ji Baixin was genuinely flustered by Yin Qin.

She’d always thought Yin Qin’s words were irresponsible and frivolous, but now she found herself moved by his cheesy lines, even feeling a stir of love.

She deliberately kept a calm facade. “I will, and you should too,” she told him.

He nodded.

“I’ll be going, then,” Ji Baixin said as she prepared to leave with her team.

“Will you be off work on time tonight?” Yin Qin asked.

“Probably not tonight.”

“In that case, I’ll figure something out. Just remember to eat,” Yin Qin reminded as he turned to one of the other designers. “Keep an eye on her for me. If she skips a meal, call me.”

“Don’t worry, Chairman Yin. I’ll definitely carry out the task you entrusted to me.”

Yin Qin gave a word of thanks.

Ji Baixin, feeling fantastic, left with her team.

After she left, Yin Qin’s smile faded.

He thought that with time, maybe he could rediscover the old feelings.

He returned to his office chair and forced himself to concentrate on work.

The day was short. Most of it was for work, some for sleep, and only a small portion was left. It made life seem not so difficult.

He worked until 8 that night.

He was getting hungry.

Since there was nothing urgent to do, he decided to call it a day.

He called Ji Baixin to ask if she was off work and had dinner. She’d eaten, but because she hadn’t worked in a while, she was likely to work late. After some thought, he decided not to disturb her anymore. He thought that perhaps having her own career to focus on could alleviate their tensions.

He drove straight to the Hanlin Residential Area.

With nowhere to go and not wanting to return to his shared residence with Ji Baixin so early, the only place he could go was Ji Baijian’s.

Having parked his car, he entered the elevator.

As the elevator doors were closing, a few men carrying things rushed in.

What Yin Qin hadn’t expected was to see God Joe himself!
