Chapter 213 Charis' Viewpoint: Meeting With Everyone! Part One!
The halls of the mansion were vast, ornate, and filled with numerous clashing energies that felt alive and had a mind of their own.
Each step I took seemed to echo with that fluctuating power, one that mere mortals couldn't fathom no matter how they try.
And uuuh, overwhelming was an understatement. But, walking alongside Verina and Lupina, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of anticipation and trepidation as they guided me through the mansion.
"Ready to meet everyone?" Lupina asked, her cheerful voice breaking the silence. Her orange hair shimmered even in the dim light, and despite her current state—carried in Verina's arms—her warmth was undeniable.
"Yes," I replied, my voice steady. "I want to understand them."
Verina's green eyes glanced at me briefly before she nodded, her stoic demeanor offering a sense of calm. "They've been curious about you. Be prepared for a mix of personalities, but none of them mean harm."
Thanks to the immense size of the mansion, it took us a while to even reach our first destination. It was enough time for Lupina to excitedly introduce everyone in detail without even having these people meet me in person.
At this point, I have probably already known who is who by their appearance alone. That was the extent of the information that Lupina bestowed before even my first meeting with one of them.
Verina wasn't as talkative, however. Then again, it might probably be because I contrasted her with Lupina, who has probably uttered an entire book on our way to meet Father's people.
Our first stop was a large, expansive chamber filled with training equipment of all kinds. The air was thick with the scent of sweat and effort, and the rhythmic sounds of punches and sound barrier breaking??
Yora, Kara, and Amelia were mid-sparring when we entered, their movements precise and calculated, and utterly, dangerously terrifying. Not to mention, they weren't even using any weapons.
"They are… certainly as energetic as you mentioned, Lupina."
"Hahaha! That is a precious expression on your face!"
All three wore baggy pants and black sleeveless shirts, which accentuated their toned muscles and athletic frames.
Yora's blonde hair was tied into a loose braid, strands sticking to her face as she ducked under a perilous strike from Kara, her green eyes sharp and focused. Despite her slightly leaner frame, she moved with the agility of someone who had spent a lifetime surviving in harsh conditions.
Kara, by contrast, was a force of nature. Stocky and powerful, her short black hair framed a face that was stern but strangely calm. Her muscles rippled as she countered Yora's movements, her stance unyielding.
Amelia stood to the side, acting as a referee. Her aqua-colored hair was tied into a neat bun, and her piercing blue eyes scrutinized every movement. Her posture radiated discipline, and her presence alone seemed to command respect.
Lupina mentioned that Amelia felt like the second-in-command whenever Verina, Kuzunoha, and my father were not available. They trust her that much because of her talent and ability.
And by just seeing her stoic posture and gaze, I could see why.
"Hey!" Lupina called out, her voice cutting through the sound of their sparring. "You folks got a visitor!"
The trio paused, turning their attention toward us. Yora's expression softened slightly, Kara grinned, and Amelia offered a polite nod.
"You must be Charis," Yora said, stepping forward and wiping sweat from her brow. Her voice was warm, though still laced with a hint of nervousness, gesturing to her colleagues. "My name is Yora, this is Kara, and Amelia.
"We've heard a lot about you. Your mother, our master, really won't stop talking about how precious you're to her when you're still unconscious."
"It's a pleasure to meet you," I replied, bowing slightly. "Also, you referred to your master wrong. She is my father," I corrected.
Narcissus had decided to become a father figure of mine, and the role of a father conceptually differs to some extent from that of a mother. I need to respect that decision, and I must make others around her respect it too.
"Ah… I see," Yora replied with an awkward tone, but she was amused by the development of our relationship.
"I sincerely hope I'm not interrupting," I pressed.
Both Verina and Lupina were just letting me talk as they found me interesting to watch. To a good extent, they appear to want me showcasing my role and presence as Narcissus' sole daughter.
"Nah, we were just wrapping up," Kara said, her grin widening. "I see why you're the boss' lass now. You're as cute and bright as her!"
I felt my cheeks flush slightly at the comment, but before I could respond, Amelia stepped forward.
"You will always be welcomed by us," Amelia said simply, her voice calm but firm. "If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to ask. We owe your father a lot." Experience new tales on empire
"Thank you," I replied, her words resonating with an honesty that made me feel at ease. "I look forward to learning from all of you."
As we exchanged pleasantries, I couldn't help but notice the camaraderie between the three of them. Their differences in personality and fighting style seemed to complement each other, creating a synergy that was as effective as it was inspiring.
They were also currently in the possession of what my father called the Scripts, strapped securely in their waist belt.
Before the time of the Nihil, these Scripts were the main driving force for their improvement and reliability when it came to fighting against the Ordeal in Carcosa.
And as of now, these Scripts have been improved to a massive extent, thanks to the collaboration between Kuzunoha, my father, and another person named Viviane.
The addition of the power given by Eve to my father probably caused this massive upgrade to the influential strength and content of these personalized bibles, but that was the end of what Lupina mentioned when we were on our trip to this chamber.
This Viviane person seemed to be highly regarded, similar to that of Kuzunoha and my father. I felt a little bit anxious meeting her.
Not to mention, there were 11 of her in this mansion as of the current moment.
Next, we were led to one of the mansion's storerooms, a space filled with shelves lined with high-quality magical items, artifacts, potions, and various curiosities. The air was tinged with the faint scent of herbs and alchemical components.
And undeniable cosmic terror.
The air inside the storeroom was charged with an otherworldly hum. It wasn't just a repository for magical items and artifacts—it was a treasure trove brimming with the echoes of countless dimensions and timelines.
The shelves stretched into infinity, each one meticulously arranged with objects that radiated power and mystery. Ornate vials held swirling liquids that defied earthly physics, and artifacts hummed faintly as though whispering secrets to those who dared to listen.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Sera and Erika stood near a table where several items were laid out, deep in discussion.
"They weren't sorting the items but learning about them—analyzing their properties, uses, and potential risks," Verina explained as we approached closer. "Kuzunoha and Narcissus had tasked them with understanding these treasures, not just to utilize them but to prepare for our eventual return to Carcosa."
"To think that psychos have an access to this kind of treasure trove," Lupina mumbled with annoyance. "Out of all the things, she is still keen on experimenting on me like a first-tier test subject."
"Well, you're her first-tier test subject," Verina casually snarked.
"Urgh…"
Sera noticed us first, her critical yellow eyes flickering briefly before she stepped forward with professional grace. Her auburn curls were tied back neatly, though her reserved demeanor underscored her undeniable maturity.
She looked at me with curiosity.
Her expression was calm but discerning.
"You must be Charis," she said, her voice soft but steady. "The name's Sera. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"And you," I replied, bowing slightly.
"I'm Erika," the other bowed with reverence, which was something new that I found amongst the bastioneers I met. "May the radiant one eternally watch over you."
"Don't mind her, she is a little bit eccentric," Sera nervously assured.
"What are you two working on?" I asked in curiosity.
"We're assessing the practicality of some of these items for our return," Sera explained, gesturing toward the table. "Our lord and Madam Kuzunoha granted us access to this storeroom to procure necessities. Everything here is extraordinary, but some of it is… temperamental."
Erika glanced up from the artifact she was examining, a faint smile tugging at her lips. Her reddish-brown hair framed her pale face, and her sharp blue eyes held a quiet intensity that seemed to weigh everything around her.
As of now, Sera was conversing with Verina and Lupina, so my eyes were naturally guided to this owl-like person—who happens to be an owl-human person called Deowl.
She often rotated her neck to the point that it seemed like it was breaking it—I thought that I was ready when I heard about her from Lupina, but seeing it first-hand is much creepier.
"This?" Erika said, holding up the shard, thinking that I was curious about it, which I was. "Is a fragment of a Mirror of Nexus. It can reflect not just light, but intention. If used properly, it could reveal hidden truths—or misdirect an enemy's thoughts. Albeit, not anything that mortals like us can properly utilize."
"Careful," Sera cautioned, her gaze sharpening. "That shard is inherently unstable. Without a proper arcane tuning, it could just as easily shatter your mind as reveal anything useful."
Erika chuckled softly. "I'm aware~ Just an interesting thought," she said as she examined me with an uncharacteristically judging eyes.
It was hard to read the truth behind her words, since she seemed to be under a patron of something greater… Something that I must find out further if I want to ensure father's safety!
But that can be done later!
I'm curious about all these horrifying artifacts!
They are horrifyingly interesting!
Spirited, I approached the shelves, my gleaming eyes scanning the items that glimmered and pulsed with latent energy. One shelf held an array of potions in crystalline vials, each one labeled in an ancient, flowing script.
"What's this one?" I asked, pointing to a vial filled with a golden liquid that seemed to flicker like flame.
"That's the Elixir of Temporal Recall," Sera explained. "It allows the user to relive a single moment in time—but only once. It's extremely dangerous; misusing it could create paradoxes."
"Geez, you folks are dealing with something dangerous," Lupina commented.
"If not for our Lord's Scripts, we won't be alive near these things," Sera reconfirmed with a smile.
Nearby, a small, ornate chest caught my attention yet again! It was made of a dark, polished wood that seemed to drink in the light around it. Tiny runes glowed faintly on its surface.
"That's Pandora's Vessel," Erika said, noticing my interest. "It contains an ever-changing array of minor curses and blessings. Opening it is a gamble. Sometimes you get a boon, other times…" She trailed off, her expression turning grim. "You get consumed by the abyssal beast hiding in a different dimension, tormenting your entire conceptual existence into an eternal suffering."
"Hiikh!"
"Don't scare her!" Sera protested before she sighed. "Haven't you been satisfied for scaring the living hell out of me before this?"
"Heh," Erika shrugged. Her expression was that of a manic understanding and knowledgeable experience.
Regardless, it didn't stop me from being more curious about the rest of them!
"And this?" I gestured toward a peculiar orb that floated above its pedestal, radiating a faint hum. Its surface was black as obsidian but speckled with tiny, shifting stars.
"The Orb of Convergence," Sera said. "It can merge two compatible entities into one, creating a unified being. But the process is irreversible, and the outcome is unpredictable."
"We will definitely be taking this one," Erika said with a strange tone.
Her blue eyes were suddenly calm but carried a weight that made me pause. Something about her this whole time felt… off. Not in a threatening way, but as if she carried a burden that wasn't entirely surfacing in the facade she currently wears like a mask.
