Chapter 176: | 176 | Ouranos Spatial Stabilizer
In an island somewhere near the Port of Dawn, several warship of different sizes encircled the shores of the tiny landmass while helicopters and drones soared above the heavens, observing each centimeter of the island. It was an important day for the United Navy.
After all, it was time to test their first-ever military project with magicraft as the primary source of power. The project was recently approved by the fleet admiral of the United Navy, and its development just concluded a few days earlier.
The Research and Development Department required tons of permission before the project could begin its testing phase. Though, it had the interest of the United Navy and its military in mind, so the permission for testing went through without a hitch.
It was generally known as the O.U.R.A.N.O.S Project.
Ouranos, was a spatial-stabilizer generator, the first magic-technology of its kind. According to the theoretical assessment of its creators, the generator could stabilize the spatial-signature of an entire area through the casting of various spatial spells. Although the efficiency of such a generator was questionable.
It didn't matter as it could do one thing.
The capability to make space impenetrable from unnatural spatial disturbance. Through this technology, the teleporting spells of the Magus might be deflected away by the United Navy. An important faculty to have.
Naturally, though... Whether it works or not could only be discovered during the testing, which was why almost most of the United Navy gathered around a tiny island somewhere in the nearby sea of Crescere.
Within the bridge of the modernized battleship, UNS Trinity of Solace. Abraham watched as several research personnel and specialist prepared the testing of the Ouranos in the tiny landmass before him. He had high expectations regarding such a technology as it would save them from the pesky teleportation spells of the Magus.
"Let's hope the testing goes well for the R&D Department." He muttered to himself, glancing at the screens where the magical machine, Ouranos dwelled was observed. It looked like an engine of some sort and stood over three meters.
Meanwhile, in the tiny landmass surrounded by the United Navy, the Director was leading the preparation of Ouranos, making sure that everything was ready. This was the first-ever prototype of an anti-Magus machine, so things might go well, or go wrong.
It was his job to make sure that the chances go to the former instead of the latter. It wouldn't do good for the R&D Department if Ouranos failed during a major testing. Their reputation would take a hit, and perhaps the United Navy's trust as well.
'The mana in this area is good enough. If the concept is proven well during this testing, then we might have to concentrate our resources in making it as efficient as possible. In its current state, I doubt it would be appliable in the long term.' The Director thought while observing the island.
Before he could continue his observations, a specialist came up in front of him and reported the current status of Ouranos. "Director, Ouranos is up and operational. It is ready for the testing."
Hearing the report, the Director nodded in understanding and replied. "Alright, let's get out of here. We don't want to be anywhere near this thing if something bad happens." The specialist was in agreement with the Director, not wanting to be near the generator.
With the confirmation of Ouranos's operational status, one after another, the specialists and researchers were picked up by Ospreys, returning to the UNS Guardian of the High Seas.
Back to the bridge of the UNS Trinity of Solace, an intelligence officer stepped forward and reported the situation to the fleet admiral. "Sir, Ouranos is operational. Our experts are in the process of evacuating the area. After the landmass is cleared of any life, the testing should be clear to proceed."
"Okay, I'll keep that in mind. But before that, make sure that no one would be in that island during the testing. It wouldn't do good if a person is expose to an untested concept of a machine." Abraham uttered to the intelligence officer, who nodded in understanding.
The intelligence officer swiftly relayed the orders of the fleet admiral to surrounding warships, making them increase their surveillance around the island. As the nearby fleet became busy, Abraham's attention was pointed to his thoughts.
The testing phase of Ouranos was separated into two sections. It was the creation of a stabilized-space, and the following test of teleporting objects inside it. This was to see the difference between theory and reality. The variables that might emerged in the actual was an ending-arrange of possibilities.
Nonetheless, they could only hope for the best.
"Creating spells is the easiest part. Testing their effectiveness is the hardest." With their computers around, they could create a vast array of spells in an instant. After all, the syntax they could make with magicraft was vast in terms of variety. However, whether they were effective or not was the question that needed to be answered.
Another intelligence officer stepped forward and reported about his relayed orders. "Sir, the landmass has been cleared of any people. All of our warships have reported the same conclusion." With the needed confirmation, there was no need to hesitate.
"Good, relay my orders. Begin the testing of Ouranos. Maintain cautiousness and prepare for an emergency. Also, sustain a safe distance from the landmass." Abraham ordered the intelligence officer to relay his orders. The officer nodded and saluted before walking away to report his orders.
It didn't take long before his orders was relayed to every warship that encircled the tiny island. The beginning of a new age for the United Navy was in the horizon.
...
In the UNS Guardian of the High Seas, the specialists onboard the ship prepared for the activation of Ouranos on the island before them. The Director observed their actions with scrutiny, making sure that no mistakes were made in the preparation process.
*Ouranos clear for activation...*
"Activate Ouranos," The Director ordered the specialist, which immediately pressed the activation button of the generator. Everyone watched as the Ouranos glowed with a dim bluish neon, signifying that it was working well under the constraints it was given.
*Status are optimal for the Ouranos, Sir. But mana are being taken with an inefficient rate.* A specialist reported to the Director, who nodded in understanding. He understood that they had no time to waste and had to complete the testing quota as fast as possible.
"Is T1, ready?" The Director asked one of the specialist beside him. T1 was a small object inscribed with a teleportation spell. The target for the teleportation was a small island before them, which would test the effectiveness of Ouranos.
*T1 is ready, Sir.*
"Understood, activate it and begin transposition." The Director uttered to the specialist, and the second test of the testing phase had begun. The T1 was in another deserted island, which was also being scrutinizingly observed by the United Navy.
The runic spells imbued on the object glowed as the spell inside was activated. It didn't take long for the space surrounding the T1 object to distort, and a moment later, it disappeared from the spot. Most observers turned their gaze towards the tiny island, wondering where T1 might appear.
However... T1 never appeared in the island.
*Spatial fluctuations detected south of Ouranos. Distortion have been stabilized.*
The incoming report of the specialist was proof of their success. Though, another proof emerged in the form of T1 being repelled from whence it came. It was broken into pieces by the distorting force of the other side getting sent back at it.
The Director smiled at the success of Ouranos, though this was merely the second testing of the testing phase. He glanced at a specialist and gave way for another testing. "Begin our third testing, send in our T2."
T2 was a much larger object than T1. Quite bigger than a human too. It was imbued with heavier teleportation spell that required much more mana to activate. A spell that might rival a powerful teleportation spells of the Magus.
The specialist handling T2 didn't hesitate and activated its runic spells. T2 began glowing with brilliance and immediately disappeared on the spot, leaving behind a distortion. Everyone held their gaze back at the tiny island once again, curious about the results of the third testing.
*Deep spatial-fluctuations detected northbound of Ouranos. Slight distortion is piercing through, but the space is stabilizing itself.*
They could see somewhere in the north of the tiny island distorting for a slight little bit. But the object it was supposed to teleport never went through, suggesting that the teleportation spell was repelled by Ouranos.
Back to the location where T2 was activated, the second object got repelled and returned in broken pieces. It was as though it hit a dry concrete wall while moving 200 miles per hour,
Silence shrouded the interiors of the UNS Guardian of the High Seas, but it was clear that the testing phase of Ouranos was a success. They have successfully repelled incoming teleportation spells, though obviously, more testing were needed.
However, nonetheless, they have a proven a working concept, signifying the continuation of the project.
Abraham watched the entirety of the testing phase with a smile plastered on his face. Ouranos was a working prototype of a spatial-stabilizer generator. Perhaps, it wouldn't take long before they had shield generators for themselves as well.
"Our future is certainly vast." He muttered to himself, glancing at Charlotte, who softly smiled and nodded in agreement with his silent words.
