Chapter 204: B2: C104: Grimrock Enemies 3
“What the fuck?!” Naomi raged. “Why did my attacks do diddly shit! Everything should die with one or two punches from me!”
“Extremely high physical resistance abilities, extremely high Strength, and vastly high vitality,” Hannah listed. “They might even shrug off blunt force attacks better than other styles of attacks. So you and Gilbert are the most disadvantaged with damage.”n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
“Gilbert, sure, but I got claws, bitches.” Naomi activated her Primal Huntress Form +2.
Claws extended from the fingers and toes of her bare hands and feet. Her teeth grew into longer fangs, and a pair of cat ears extended up and through the sides of her curly hair, which became more voluminous, reaching down as long dark twists and curls that covered her back.
She grew bigger, packing on more weight and size, while keeping her obvious shape as a dynamic black woman. Then a long, black, feline tail extended from her backside, flicking to the side with a haughty grace.
She even balanced more of her weight on the balls of her feet, her heels up. That part of her, along with most of her, remained human. But she exuded the primal energy and physical force of a true huntress.
Naomi purred deeply. “Come here, piggy, piggy, piggy. Mama got something fun for you.”
“There are too many jokes in there for one man to say, and I’m not in the mood for it.” Gilbert’s steel-blue eyes glared at the way out of the dining hall. “I’m in the mood for a proper crusade.”
“By the way, I’m not the only one who made the connection that these hell orcs might be the same extinct orcs from long ago, right?” Hannah asked.
Bianca raised three hands slowly. Hannah looked up at her with a flat gaze until the giant monster princess dropped her hands and lowered her head.“LO SIENTO!”
Putting aside the lore for later, Zarian gave himself a moment to admire Naomi’s transformation. He caught her looking back at him from the corner of her eyes.
Her full lips turned into a feisty fanged smile that disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Tail swaying rhythmically, she turned her attention back to where the drumming persisted and more roaring sounded.
Zarian tore his gaze away from her backside and took stock of the situation.
Ash, smoke, and embers gathered as a grasping haze around them. The curses continued pounding down at them to get past their anti-curse defense.
They couldn’t go backwards, since Hannah hadn’t cracked the infernal runes on the enchanted traps just yet. Any significant retreat would turn the Hell Gate against them.
They couldn’t go forward. They could hear another wave of hell orcs rushing forth from the tunnel ahead, hidden from sight behind the bend.
But they could prepare.
Hannah tossed some runic trap mines into the mouth of the tunnel. More spectral spiders covered the entrance with a wall of arcane webbing that they enchanted with gusto.
From his satchel, Gilbert pulled out a human-sized cask of troll beer. He popped off the cork and drained it, accepting the poison for more buffs.
Zarian cast Quagmire Pit behind the wall of bombs and arcane webbing, changing the floor into a wet and soupy bog. Naomi braced herself, and so did Bianca. Loner waited patiently while Slip hoofed at the floor.
Then their time to prepare was up. Another wave appeared.
Six hell orcs ran out from around the bend of the tunnel, catching everyone off guard. Thankfully, the hell orcs struck the bombs and blew themselves up as they kept barreling forward.
Then the hell orcs hit the resilient, sharpened, reflective, and high voltage arcane webbing. They slowed down a little, which gave the Floridians plenty of time to recompose themselves.
Next, the creatures of hell fell into the boggy pit. That would’ve stopped most enemies, but the hell orcs refused to stay down. All six released a rocketing burst of infernal force, nearly escaping the pit entirely.
They were a split second too late as Zarian and Para cast the folktale of the Dread Mire Bite. The invisible jaws of the predator inside the pit snapped over all six angry hell orcs, tearing into their green-gray and muscular bodies, crushing them together.
Most enemies would’ve died from that.
But the six hell orcs were so mad and so strong, all six pried open the jaws of the predator. They punched, kicked, and chopped their axes through its teeth.
A tooth as long as Zarian’s arm flew by Naomi’s head. She reared up and hissed deeply, waiting for her opportunity to strike.
Thankful for her patience, the wizard duo quickly cast Dread Mire Bellow, but by then, the hell orcs were on their way forward. The concussive and traumatic shockwave only caught their backsides.
That was okay.
Bianca hit them with almost everything she could.
Six charged up torrents of burning light with hardened points struck the hell orcs dead on. Bianca’s attack forced the hell orcs to slow down while the Dread Mire Bellow blasted their backsides, pinning them briefly.
She applied her Shining Mark +2, and she pushed the dregs of her free good +6 to make her efforts a little more effective on the evil creatures. That was just enough for her, along with Zarian and Para, to stun all six hell orcs, forcing them to stagger in place.
Stolen novel; please report.
Counting from left to right (while refreshing the count for this new wave), Hannah unleashed everything on the first hell orc, which was furthest on the left.
She fired two shots from her human-sized cannons, a dozen ice and lightning beams from her little orbital golems, and one powerful force beam from the gloved palms of her outstretched hands.
Naomi dashed in, flipping and vaulting over the hell orcs. Back on her feet, she tackled the second one from behind, driving the musclebound creature forward.
Naomi’s increased speed, size, and Strength helped her knock the big creature down on its belly with a huge slam.
From there, Naomi grew further, her skin-tight suit straining to contain her increasing dimensions. She roared as she pushed and pushed until she was as tall as the orc, her dynamic body maintaining its gifted qualities while at a larger size and weight.
Then, with her claws outstretched and coated in sharpened psychic energy, she delivered a flurry of frenzied strikes up and down the back of the hell orc’s skull and along the spine. Thin arcs of bloody gore flew free from her hands as she raked the hell orc alive and kept it pinned under her.
Hannah kept her hell orc under a heavy direct assault and even learned to implement her Aura Mechanic. Her aura grabbed bombs from her satchel and flung them to blow up at the feet of the first hell orc, attacking at a nonstop and cyclic rate.
What about the other four hell orcs?
Before they could get moving again, Zarian and Para dropped them into another twin cast of Quagmire Pit. The duo followed through with twin casts of Dread Mire Bite and Dread Mire Bellow, smashing, tearing, and blasting at the orc’s tough bodies while sending them up into the air.
Bianca released three hard torrents of light and sent the fourth, fifth, and sixth hell orc flying into the mouth of the opposing tunnel. Back there, the spectral spiders unleashed a gravity trap on the floor that used the weight of the hell orcs against them to slow them down some.
That left the third hell orc still midair, falling back down where Gilbert waited underneath. But this time, Gilbert had help of a different kind.
With a yip and yee-haw, he reached over and grabbed onto Slip’s armored side as the Sleipnir galloped close.
He whipped himself up and onto the Sleipnir’s back, riding comfortably with Loner settled like a kid in front of him. The three of them bounded with extra gusto, Gilbert using Adrenaline Jolt +2 on Slip. Then they crashed into the third hell orc from the side.
A combination of juiced-up hoof kicks, tower shield blows with the edge, and Loner’s combination of force blasts mixed with dark jets kept their hell orc occupied.
If it wasn’t for Gilbert’s Tranquilizer Touch +2, Zarian wouldn’t trust leaving the mounted trio against the third hell orc. But for now, they seemed to hold their own alright.
“Hell grind, here we are,” Zarian said as he marched forward.
Bianca waited the furthest back, which meant they had all the space to work from the sides of her and toward the front. She was their sentry tower and the furthest they could retreat in case things get dicey, especially for Zarian.
As he moved up, Zarian found the truth of his build humorous.
Despite all of their scary power, the ironic thing about Zarian and Para was that they were best served as support wizards. And in a fight like this, they could use their specialities to the max by helping the others push their effectiveness to far more lethal degrees.
Zarian and Para struck the first, second, and third hell orcs with Aura Mastery + Black Fire. The extra black and fiendish flames delivered some minor burn damage while tearing down the hell orcs’ high vitality.
It didn’t seem like much, but it was a lot for heavy damage dealers, especially Naomi. She pushed her hell orc closer to death the fastest.
With her eight-foot primal body and mounted position on the hell orc’s back, she dished out an onslaught of uncontested slashing damage. The thunder shocks from her Psychokinesis +3 mixed with brain damage from Mind Spike +2 kept the orc stun-locked as its vitality disappeared faster and faster because of Aura Mastery + Black Fire.
Once Naomi secured the kill, that would lead to a domino effect toward victory. Until then, Zarian faced off against three orcs with Para and Bianca backing him.
He didn’t like how quickly the hell orcs were healing up. They were also fairly quick to march free of the gravity web trap and head straight toward Zarian.
Under the fast and heavy beat of resounding war drums, Zarian and Para combined their Aura Mastery and wizardry once more.
They covered the fourth, fifth, and sixth orc in the darkest and hottest version of the black flames. The duo shot short but potent lances of thunderous and forceful red lightning into the chests and faces of the three orcs one by one, knocking them backward while delivering horrendous pain.
In between the gouts of fire and lightning, Zarian and Para combined forces with a powerful combo move.
First, Quagmire Pit, then Dread Mire Bite, then Dread Mire Bellow. That crunched and ripped the hell orcs up before blasting them into the air just like before.
The duo squeezed in another volley of Aura Mastery combined with a fanning gout of Black Fire and three hard snap shots of Torturous Lightning.
Then, following up as the hell orcs fell, Zarian and Para used Void Authority before combining twin casts of Quagmire Pit and Void Layer. The void pit yawned from underneath the plummeting hell orcs, promising to swallow them up into a place worse than Hidden Hell.
Just when Zarian thought he could secure three kills at the cost of massive amounts of aura, Hidden Hell threw in the penalty flag.
Heavy realm energy struck Zarian and pulped up his guts while crashing down on his void pit. The cost to maintain it against the literal weight of hell was too much even with all the aura buffs.
Zarian and Para had to drop the void pit, and worse yet, the hell orcs showed a new ability that gave them a sudden power up.
A burst of bloody red energy expanded from their bodies. It covered their weapons with a palpable force that was energetic and weighty, reminding Zarian of a cross between Gilbert’s Unified Monk Force +2 and Naomi’s Psychokinesis +3.
The hell orcs landed back on solid ground and moved much faster than before. They had an easier time defending off the Black Fire and Torturous Lightning spells with their new bloody power up.
A berserk and violent lust for Zarian motivated them to move with an incredible ruthlessness, even to the point of endangering themselves, which made their sudden power up easy enough for Zarian to puzzle out. They had a special trait or skill that only activated when their enemy bled.
“Oh, that’s fucked,” Zarian grumbled, spitting blood.
He stood his ground.
The blood-crazed orcs lunged at him with their huge, hulking, eight-foot musclebound bodies. They held up their chunky and crude axes in each of their enormous fists and brought them down toward Zarian’s head.
They got close, but the hell orcs couldn’t connect.
Bianca continued to be Zarian’s laser cannon of a guardian angel.
She caught all three in one big and thick torrent of light with a hardened tip. She sent them flying back where another Quagmire Pit waited before unleashing Dread Mire Bite and Dread Mire Bellow to keep the blood-crazed hell orcs occupied.
Not enough for a kill, but it was enough for Zarian to get some breathing room while his natural vitality and Para’s abilities stitched him up. Gilbert had his Healing Force +2 spread out to combat the vitality curse, and his fight with his own hell orc distracted him from Zarian’s situation right now.
The breathing room disappeared. The orcs recovered far faster than before.
Their burning orange eyes honed in on Zarian. The holes in the middle of their faces snorted in the scent of Zarian’s blood, as if he was prey.
Para hated that.
The hell orcs didn’t care. They bolted at him with explosive lunges, their sanguine force flowing in and out of their bodies and around their dual axes. Their mighty frames bulged with more and more muscular might, as if they had their own arcane adrenaline flowing through their veins.
