Chapter 200 Bai Jiawei Lied
Chapter 200 Bai Jiawei Lied
At the top and center of the first page, in bold black letters, wrote:
'LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT HE YUXIN'
He Xinyan practically jumped up in excitement, and she immediately pulled out her phone to scan it. After scanning it once, she was going to put it back in the safe, but she suddenly stopped.
The original copy would be more trustworthy than a scan. . .
He Xinyan took a quick look at the door before deciding to risk it. She closed the safe and locked it before standing up.
She opened the door slightly and peeked outside to make sure no one was around before walking out of the room. She quickly and quietly walked out of the hallway, which connected to the living room, and tried to make her way to the stairs.
However, as she went, she saw the person she wanted to see the least at the moment.
She immediately hid the file folder behind her.
"Xinyan, you're home?!" Bai Jiawei widened his eyes at the sight of He Xinyan, because he had thought she was away once again. She was rarely at the He mansion nowadays, and he didn't complain about it.
"Yes, I just came home a while ago to get something. I will be leaving now." He Xinyan grinned and turned around, moving the file folder to her front. She casually, but quickly walked out the door and let out a breath of relief.
She didn't think the He mansion was a safe place to look at a document of this sort, so He Xinyan went to Gu Yechen's house.
Luckily, he was home already since she didn't bring her key, and she sat down on the couch to read through her mother's will.
Gu Yechen went to cook and she spent almost an hour carefully reading through it word by word.
In the end, she had a basic understanding of what the will had written.
He Xinyan smirked. So Bai Jiawei was indeed lying. . .
There were several parts to the will, including how the He mansion was to go to He Xinyan, and other things that weren't very relevant.
However, there was one part that was very important.
He Xinyan had always thought that her mother had given half of the shares she owned to Bai Jiawei, but it wasn't like that. She had temporarily put it under his name for when he first took over the company with her, but before she died, she had taken it back and put it under her own name.
Maybe that was also why Bai Jiawei decided to kill He Yuxin! In the beginning, Bai Jiawei never had any power or shares, so it wasn't extremely important to him in the past.
However, He Yuxin gave it to him. . . for a while. After experiencing the feeling of having power and company shares, Bai Jiawei didn't want to let go of it anymore.
So, when He Yuxin took it back, Bai Jiawei was obviously furious. He felt like he had lost something, although it technically never belonged to him. He wanted it back.
He Xinyan scoffed and flipped the pages back and forth.
So, Bai Jiawei had absolutely no shares under his name when He Yuxin died. This is also why the will is so important.
He Yuxin, her mother, had 31 percent of the He Corporation's shares when she died, making her the biggest shareholder back then.
She gave 10 percent to Bai Jiawei when she died. For the remaining 21 percent, 5 percent was given to Bai Jiawei and the remaining 16 percent was given to her!
So, she was the biggest shareholder!
Bai Jiawei had 31 percent of the shares right now, but 16 percent of that belonged to her! So, he only had 15 percent left, making him 1 percent short in comparison to her.
He Xinyan closed the file folder and stood up from the couch.
The will also included that the 16 percent of her shares would be under Bai Jiawei until she reached the age of 23 years old, or until Bai Jiawei was ready to retire.
He Xinyan had just turned 23 years old a few months ago, but Bai Jiawei never told her about this. Of course, he did this on purpose.
He Xinyan smirked and patted her head gently. Her memory awoke at just the right moment! Ah, she was such a genius!
The will also specifically said: 'until Miss He Xinyan reaches the age of 23 years old, OR until Mr. Bai Jiawei is ready to retire'.
The OR made a huge difference in this case. He Xinyan had reached 23 years old already, so she met one of the two possible criterias. Therefore, the shares should go to her. . . right?
He Xinyan wasn't an expert in this area, so she definitely needed confirmation. She didn't want to pull out her ace until she was completely ready and certain that it would work.
She happily skipped into the kitchen and hugged Gu Yechen from behind, "Mr. Husband, I need your help."
"What is it?" Gu Yechen asked with a smile.
"Do you know any good lawyers that are good with reading wills and know a lot about company shares and transfer of property and things like that?"
Gu Yechen turned around, "Yes, I do. Why?"
"I just read my mother's will, and I have a few questions." He Xinyan said as she waved the file folder around in the air.
"Okay. I will arrange a meeting for you. The food is ready, let's go eat!"
"Yay! Love you!" He Xinyan blew him an air kiss before helping him carry the plates of food out onto the dining table.
---
After dinner, He Xinyan followed Gu Yechen into his home office so she could make a copy of her mother's will. She kept the original for herself and put the copy inside a folder that looked the exact same.
To be safe, she was going to go put it back tonight, after Bai Jiawei was asleep.
At night, He Xinyan quietly returned home and entered Bai Jiawei's office to return the copy of the will. She knew the code for the safe now, so it was much quicker.
After returning it, she left and went back to Gu Yechen's house to spend the night.
---
The next morning, He Xinyan didn't go to work right away.
Gu Yechen had arranged a meeting between He Xinyan and the lead lawyer of the Gu Corporation, also known as one of the best lawyers in all of the country.
He Xinyan went to work with Gu Yechen and on the top floor, the lawyer was already waiting for them in the meeting room.
"Good morning, President Gu. Good morning, Mrs. Gu." The lawyer had a stern face as he stretched his arm out to shake He Xinyan's hand.
He Xinyan was about to grab onto his hand when Gu Yechen suddenly stepped forward and shook the lawyer's hand. He Xinyan glanced at him and couldn't help but chuckle lightly.
The lawyer also blinked a few times before putting his hand down.
"This is Qu Fei, the leader of the Gu Corporation's lawyer group," Gu Yechen introduced.
"Hello, Mr. Qu. I am He Xinyan."
After the introductions, they sat down with Qu Fei on one side of the table and He Xinyan and Gu Yechen on the other.
"You can go do your work," He Xinyan said when she saw Gu Yechen sit down next to her.
"It's okay. I will stay here with you." Of course Gu Yechen wasn't going to let He Xinyan stay in a room alone with another guy!
He Xinyan took out the will and put it down onto the table, "My mother died over 20 years ago, and this was the will she left. My dad, Bai Jiawei, has always told me that the will said he will keep the shares my mom gave me until he is ready to retire. Then, the company will go to me. However, after reading this will, I think he has been lying to me."
The lawyer quickly scanned the pages in less than a minute and looked up, "Mrs. Gu, how old are you right now?"
He Xinyan glanced at Gu Yechen from being called Mrs. Gu before replying, "23."
The lawyer closed the folder and nodded, "You want to take your shares back?"
"Yes."
"Based on what is written on the will, you are able to. This will is really simple. Usually, wills that involve the transfer of a company's shares are more complicated, but this one is quite simple. There are no additional terms written here. Since you are 23 now, you can definitely take your shares back."
He Xinyan sat up a little straighter, "So, if I take this to Bai Jiawei, he will have to sign the transfer of shares and give the property back to me."
The lawyer quickly flipped through the pages again and nodded, "Yes. If this is exactly how the will is written, then he will have to give the shares back to you. It says 'until Miss He Xinyan reaches the age of 23 years old, or until Mr. Bai Jiawei is ready to retire'. The 'or' is very important, because this is an either-or situation. Since you met one of the requirements, he will have to return the shares to you."
