Chapter 290 The Truth
Chapter 290 The Truth
He Xinyan leaned forward and kissed Gu Yechen quickly on the lips before getting out of the car and closing the door.
Then, she waved goodbye to him and walked over to the sidewalk near the street. She got in a taxi and drove away.
Gu Yechen pressed his lips together before also starting the car. Two hours. . . Even if he was supposed to take his time, he still had to be quick.
He slammed his feet onto the gas pedal and began driving back to his house.
---
Half an hour later, He Xinyan arrived at the Wu family's apartment once again.
She ran up the stairs to the 7th floor a little out of breath and rang the doorbell.
"Mrs. Wu, are you home? Wu Minger, are you in there?!" She knocked aggressively on the door to ensure that they could hear, "Minger! It's me, Xinyan! Brother Chenxi, are you home?"
She knocked and rang the doorbell for several minutes before there was no reply. She had called Wu Minger twice by now and still, there was no answer.
She opened up her phone and saw that it was 5 already. There was only a little over an hour left. Gu Yechen was most likely on his way already. . .
She couldn't stay here because it was obvious she was getting nowhere, so He Xinyan reluctantly rang the doorbell one last time before walking away.
At the elevators, she closed her eyes as she waited for the elevator to arrive, gripping onto her phone tightly. Was there really no way?
Would that person actually find out if they called the police? Or. . . if they brought people with them to the meeting location. Would he actually kill Gu Yebei?
This was a psychological game. They could very well bring the police or other people with them to the meeting location and bet that the person wouldn't actually want to become a murderer. However, they did not know how high of a possibility there was that this bet was going to work.
They did not know who the person was, what he was like, if he had a record of kidnapping people before, or really anything about him. . . or even, her.
If they lost the bet, then Gu Yebei was dead.
It wasn't a very safe or cheap bet.
There was a ding that signified that the elevator had arrived, and He Xinyan opened her eyes. The elevator slowly opened and she saw that there was a person inside.
She didn't care much as she took a step forward, but she immediately froze when she saw who was inside.
"Auntie Wu?!" She exclaimed in surprise as she looked at Wu Yin from top to bottom. She was holding two plastic bags, one in each hand.
They weren't closed, so she could see that they were filled with vegetables and other food. It was evident that Wu Yin had gone to the supermarket.
Wu Yin also gasped in surprise upon seeing He Xinyan, "Yanyan?!"
He Xinyan did not know how to take Wu Yin's reaction. Was it a gasp of shock, or was it just a natural surprise to see someone at your house?
"Yanyan, what are you doing here? Oh, I haven't seen you in so long! Why don't you come over to our house to play with Minger anymore?" Wu Yin stepped out of the elevator, dropped the two bags onto the ground, and pulled He Xinyan into her embrace.
He Xinyan blinked a few times in surprise. Slowly and hesitantly, she returned the hug and smiled softly, "Auntie Wu, where were you? I came to find you this morning but no one was home. And Minger wasn't home and wouldn't answer my calls either. . . Where is everyone?"
Wu Yin pulled away and furrowed her eyebrows together, "This morning? What time? In the morning, I went out to the park to exercise with the other people, and after, we went to go get coffee together. Maybe that was why I wasn't home."
He Xinyan raised one eyebrow and nodded after looking into Wu Yin's genuine eyes. She knew Wu Yin. Auntie Wu was a very innocent and pleasant old lady, and definitely very nice.
Since she became friends with Wu Minger, Wu Yin had treated her like her own daughter. Especially after hearing that her biological mom had died, Wu Yin was even more welcoming towards her.
He Xinyan would not and did not believe that Wu Yin had anything to do with this.
However, she still had to check.
"Auntie Wu -"
"Come on, let's go inside first. Oh, I haven't seen you in so long. Why don't you stay for dinner tonight?" Wu Yin picked up the bags and wrapped her arm around He Xinyan's elbow, pulling her inside.
He Xinyan followed her into the apartment room, but she knew that there wasn't much time, "I won't have time to eat dinner with you today, Auntie Wu. However, I'll definitely come by soon!"
Wu Yin frowned a little disappointedly but nodded her head as they walked over to the dining table and sat down.
"I'll go get you some tea," Wu Yin said, turning around to enter the kitchen, but He Xinyan quickly stopped her.
"Auntie Wu, I'm actually here today to ask you something very important. I don't have much time." She said this very seriously, and Wu Yin immediately noticed. She sat back down and folded her hands together on the table.
"Yes Yanyan, what is it?"
He Xinyan gulped before cautiously asking, "Auntie Wu, do you. . . perhaps. . . know Gu Hanwu?"
At once, Wu Yin's face changed.
Noticing this, He Xinyan's heart dropped. No way. . . There was no way Wu Minger and Wu Chenxi had something to do with this.
Wu Minger. . . Why would she kidnap Gu Yebei? They were dating! Unless, she had dated Gu Yebei in the very beginning because of this. No way! He Xinyan shook her head as she tightly knit her eyebrows together.
"Auntie Wu, please answer me. You know Gu Hanwu, right?"
Wu Yin closed her eyes for a few seconds before opening them again, hiding her emotions with a smile, "Yanyan, what are you talking about? I don't know any Gu Hanwu."
He Xinyan's face darkened as she pushed aside all emotions and relations because there really wasn't much time left, "Wu Yin. . . Your husband. You don't know your husband?"
Wu Yin was slightly taken aback by He Xinyan calling her by her real name and not Auntie Wu, and she looked down uncomfortably.
"Xinyan, I do not know what you are talking about. Please -"
"Auntie Wu, I don't mean to disrespect you or talk to you about anything you don't like to talk about, but this is very serious. I need to know. You were the woman that Gu Hanwu married, right? It was for you that Gu Hanwu left the Gu family, right?"
Wu Yin looked up with pain in her eyes as she dug her nails deep into the skin of her other hand, "Xinyan, how do you know about this? Why are you telling me about this?"
He Xinyan let out a breath of. . . not relief after hearing Wu Yin admit this, and she pressed her lips together tightly, "Where have Wu Minger and Wu Chenxi been these past few days?"
"Why are you suddenly changing the topic now? Tell me, how -"
"Auntie Wu, I need you to tell me. Where have they been? Please."
Wu Yin frowned slightly, "I don't know. Chenxi has been going to work during the day like usual. Minger. . . She hasn't been coming back recently either. They are probably both busy."
He Xinyan shook her head, "Wu Yin, do you know that they kidnapped Gu Yebei, Gu Hanwu's nephew? Gu Hanyu's second son?"
Wu Yin's eyes widened slightly as she tilted her head in confusion, "What?! Chenxi and Minger? Kidnap Hanyu's son."
She chuckled, "They don't even know that they are part of the Gu family. We haven't been in contact with anyone from the Gu family in years already. That isn't possible."
He Xinyan gulped, "So you don't know?"
"What do you mean?" Wu Yin narrowed her eyes before saying softly, "Xinyan, is this really true?"
He Xinyan slowly nodded her head, "They threatened my husband, Gu Yechen, to kill Gu Yebei if my husband doesn't give them all his shares to the Gu Corporation. I also don't know what they are up to, but. . . but my husband is on his way right now, and -"
Wu Yin shook her head, "How do they know about this? They shouldn't. . . Hanwu and I have never told them anything about the Gu family."
He Xinyan stood up from her chair and walked over to Wu Yin, "I also don't know, but please. . . Auntie Wu, you have to come with me now. You can go ask them when you go find them, okay? Gu Yebei. . . he is innocent. We are all innocent."
Wu Yin looked up at He Xinyan, her eyes slightly red and disbelief written all over her face. It was clear that she still didn't and couldn't really believe that her kids were doing something like this.
Finally, she stood up and sighed, "I'll go with you. . ."
She had to see if this was true for herself.
