Chapter 145: Subtle Intention
A few minutes later, once the coast was clear as the shadow wolves returned to their original position, Zhao Kai could no longer hold back his questions.
"Feng, did we really come all the way over here just to feed them?" Zhao Kai turned to Xu Feng and asked, his expression clearly indicating that he wanted an answer.
"You still don't get it huh?" Xu Feng raised an eyebrow.
"Try to think a bit harder and deduce my action." He added, seemingly wanting Zhao Kai to come up with an answer himself.
Bewildered, Zhao Kai knitted his brows and closed his eyes, trying to think of the possibility and reasons for such an action.
'The bait was laid out to lure them out. It was achieved, but we didn't do anything?' Zhao Kai compiled these thoughts, but still can't find the connection.
Thus, he decided to think further, and analyzed more deeply, taking in all the tiny details.
The trap that Xu Feng made earlier in a rush was successful.
The wolf was trapped and alarmed the rest, but they didn't take advantage of the situation. Hence, rendering the trap useless in an overall sense.
However, Zhao Kai knew he wasn't the type to do pointless things. 'If Feng laid the trap was not intended to make it easier for me to shoot, then what could it be?'
As Zhao Kai continued to wrack his brain in thinking of the intention, Xu Feng merely watched in amusement.
Given the current circumstances, Xu Feng believed Zhao Kai might not be able to comprehend much of his intention with just these details alone.
The reason being?
He was a slow person who clearly didn't understand strategy.
'Let me give him another big hint.' Xu Feng thought, walking back to the previous area where they had placed the monster corpses.
The area was now left with only a pile of skeletons and nothing else. There wasn't even any red meat flesh on site, proving that these Shadow Wolves are indeed an expert predator.
"They sure enjoyed the meal." He mumbled, storing the skeletons and replacing them with another fresh batch of the monster corpse.
However, unlike before, Xu Feng scattered some fine dust particle-like things on the corpse.
And this action of his didn't escape the eyes of Zhao Kai, who was just pondering what he was doing.
His previous confusion seemed to have been resolved the moment he witnessed Xu Feng's actions.
"S-So that's how it is." Zhao Kai had an "O" shape in his mouth as he finally realized and comprehended Xu Feng's true intention.
He walked forward and gazed at Xu Feng.
"The bait earlier and the trap was to make the Shadow Wolves wary at first. But after stepping on the trap, nothing happened to them, including the fact that the feast went smoothly." He commented softly.
Xu Feng smirked slightly and nodded. "Anything else?"
As if he anticipated it, Zhao Kai continued the answer he came up with. "Yes, they will soon dispel their wariness, and once the second bait was placed the next time. There will be more wolves and none of them will be on high alert."
Amused, Xu Feng was satisfied that he had managed to find an answer after his big hint.
However, it wasn't completely on the mark, so Xu Feng flickered his forehead.
"Your answer isn't wrong, but also not perfect." Xu Feng said, ignoring his pain.
"Even if that was indeed my intention. If we can't kill all the wolves that will arrive, then it's just a pointless waste of bait. You saw me scattering something on the corpse, right?"
"Yes, but I don't know what they are." Zhao Kai responded honestly, rubbing his forehead.
How many times has it been since he got flickered on the forehead repeatedly by Xu Feng?
It was a question that Zhao Kai didn't wish to know, otherwise, he might really have wondered if he was just a little kid being lectured by an adult.
"Those are some herbs that I have finely turned into powder. It doesn't have a distinct smell, but if the wolves consume it. Hehe." Xu Feng adjusted his glasses and held a grin.
Without even needing a clear explanation, Zhao Kai could tell the scattered powder was definitely something detrimental to the wolves.
Added to the fact that they had already enjoyed the feast without any problems, Zhao Kai was positive about one thing.
The wolves would definitely return once they smelled the same aromatic corpse.
Thoroughly impressed by how meticulous Xu Feng's tactic was, he finally understood why Xu Feng repeatedly told him to hold his fire. It wasn't that he was not supposed to shoot, but it truly wasn't the ripe time yet.
Had he fired earlier, then one or two wolves would definitely fall, but that was about it.
After all, the wolves would subsequently become alarmed and ready for an attack. At that time, it was hard to say if they could even gather the necessary materials required for their mission.
"Sorry, Feng." Zhao Kai suddenly apologized and bowed his head. "It was wrong of me to repeatedly question you and doubt your actions."
"You better stand up straight in 3 seconds or I'm flicking your forehead again." Xu Feng warned sternly.
Baffled and stunned, Zhao Kai hurriedly raised his chin up and stood up.
"Questioning and doubting is a necessity to survive." Xu Feng calmly said, and continued, "But you must also discern when to doubt and raise your questions. Instead of just doubting and questioning my actions, you should also use that brain of yours and wonder why I'm doing this."
"Yes, Feng, I understand now." Zhao Kai responded, feeling grateful to him.
He wasn't a dork and was able to understand the whole meaning of the nighttime hunt.
Other than doing this for the mission from Fiona, there was actually a subtle intention hidden. It was an intention that one could never be able to get for free, and that was a lesson in interlock schemes and tricks from people.
