Chapter 81: Arrival
After opening the contact of OneManMedia, Xu Feng turned on Anonymous mode to converse with him as the mysterious boss.
Anonymous User: You are quite a clever person. To use my appearance at the Town Hall to obtain a deal with Gentle Wind and then proceed to attract my subordinate's attention in wanting to recruit you.
A few seconds after sending the message, OneManMedia replied to him.
OneManMedia: Are you really the boss of Lin Feng? If so, then I offer my apologies because it was not my intention to use you to gain a foothold. Also, my deal with Guild Leader Gentle Wind is just to help her advertise her raid while giving some brief information about my findings.
'Oh, so he really did make a deal.' Surprised, Xu Feng couldn't believe himself to have hit the mark. He sent that message out merely to test the water, yet OneManMedia was quick to expose himself.
Of course, the message could have been perceived as an imposter, but the fact that he mentioned his subordinate was attempting to recruit him ensured it couldn't have been an imposter.
After all, the conversation between those two was a secret. Without Lin Feng informing his boss, there was no way he would have known.
Thus, OneManMedia was quick on his feet and deduced the sender must have been the real boss of Lin Feng. Even if he deduced wrongly, no harm could be done since he was a solo player anyway.
Anonymous User: My subordinate did recommend you to me, and you rejected him, which is quite a surprise. Lin Feng rarely recruits people.
OneManMedia: Lin Feng did mention it in return for an interview. But I don't like to involve myself with guilds, corporations, or teams. My collaboration with Guild Leader Gentle Wind was an exception because I needed funds.
Anonymous User: Rest assured, I'm not here to reprimand you or anything. I just want to remind you that the recruitment has a time limit and by that time, even if Lin Feng wants to recommend you to me again, it'll be pointless. After sending that final message, Xu Feng closed the conversation. To hook someone, one must be patient and throw out a good bait.
By subtly implying that the recruitment had a time limit, he was highlighting that there would be more bigger things that he would do.
If OneManMedia was truly a clever person, then he should know his underlying meaning and make his choices wisely.
"Who were you messaging?" From out of nowhere, Zhao Kai suddenly appeared behind him and asked curiously.
Turning around, Xu Feng glanced at him and his greasy mouth. "Did you just finish eating?"
"Yeah, I was starving so the food just vanished into my stomach." Zhao Kai rubbed his stomach, satisfied with the food, as well as the additional buff that came with it. Now he wasn't as exhausted and fatigued as before.
"Then let's proceed with our journey. We're nearing the end." Xu Feng nodded his head and commented.
"Nighttime is about to begin and when that happens, the monsters here will gain a huge buff. We would be no better than dead men when that happens." He explained, letting Zhao Kai understand the danger.
Frightened, Zhao Kai anxiously readied himself to start advancing again.
As he fumbled with his gear and glanced nervously into the fog, he snapped, "Why didn't you tell me earlier that the monsters would become more difficult at nighttime?"
"Well, you didn't ask me?" Xu Feng shrugged, unwilling to take the blame for this matter.
"This kind of thing doesn't need to be asked, Feng. It should be told in advance." Zhao Kai grumbled, increasing his pace.
"Do you even know where to go?"
"..."
Faking a soft cough, Zhao Kai slowed down his pace and waited for Xu Feng. "Stop being so slow, Feng. I don't want to confront these buffed monsters when they're already difficult enough."
Xu Feng chuckled softly at his impatience, finding his behavior hilarious.
"We're already arrived, Shadow Blade." He teased, revealing that they were at their destination.
"Arrived? Where?" Confused, Zhao Kai started looking left, right, up, and down, hoping to see the so-called Willowbrook Village.
However, all he saw was a mist of fog and nothing else. Hell, he wouldn't even know if they were actually still moving forward or not!
The navigation was fully done by Xu Feng, and to be honest, he was amazed and stunned by his ability to navigate in such a foggy area.
Everywhere he looked seemed no different than the starting position.
"You'll get used to utilizing the map feature efficiently sooner or later." Xu Feng smiled and patted his shoulder.
"Take out your letter first." He instructed.
Nodding, Zhao Kai retrieved the letter from his inventory and handed it over to Xu Feng, only to be rejected.
"No, the letter must be opened by you, otherwise the teleportation won't work." Xu Feng shook his head and warned.
The letter was indeed something they needed to deliver to Willowbrook Village, but it also acted as the medium for the teleportation. Only the person that was assigned to it could utilize the true function.
If it was anyone else aside from Zhao Kai, opening the letter would have no effect.
Meanwhile, Zhao Kai's hands seemed to freeze as he held onto the letter. He was hesitant to open the letter, knowing it was a rude and disrespectful action.
"Are you sure we need to open the letter? I'm not supposed to read the content." He turned to Xu Feng and asked reluctantly.
"Yes, the letter is merely a facade. The content inside is protected and encrypted. Only the intended NPC that you need to deliver it to will be able to decipher and comprehend it." Xu Feng explained.
"Ugh, screw it. Worse goes to worse, we'll just become bad guys." Losing his cool, Zhao Kai ripped open the letter and soon, a circle formation appeared beneath his feet.
"Don't mind me!" Right at this moment, Xu Feng hopped on Zhao Kai's back, creating a piggyback ride scene.
"Get off me, Feng! You're heavy!" Astonished, Zhao Kai wanted to fling him off but it was a little too late.
Both of them subsequently disappeared from the eerie fog, leaving zero traces behind them.
