Chapter 129 Sliver Of Trust
Liam looked at the boy's badly poisoned leg and frowned.
"I don't even know what kind of poison this is. I just know that the poison is highly contagious and that cutting off his leg won't flush it out of his system. Every last trace of poison has to be extracted from everyone here, otherwise, it will spread again. In a few days, everyone will be dead," He explained everything he knew before adding, "By now, we're probably infected as well."
He sighed once again and shook his head, regretting their decision to come to the dojo. Dealing with poison was always a little annoying. Liam's knowledge of the types of poison was limited and he was not an expert. In fact, he was pretty sure that he was far from possibly being considered an expert when it came to poison.
When Felicia heard what he said, and saw the frustration on his face, she swallowed hard. She took a step closer to him, but her legs caved in all of a sudden.
She slumped to the ground and couldn't muster the strength to get up. Somehow, she felt extremely tired all of a sudden. Felicia had just reunited with her family, and now all of them were about to die. That…couldn't be true!
Liam saw her helpless expression and ruffled her hair with a forced smile. Felicia was not usually that dense or emotionally viable.
"I swear…why am I so good at picking up messy people?" He asked himself loudly, attracting the attention of the others. Everyone was getting increasingly nervous and the desperation in their eyes could be seen clearly.
It was not as if they wanted to believe Liam, or that they trusted his words, however, it was a matter of fact that only the little kid had been scratched and that everyone had gotten sick after the monster attack.
Liam's words may be unpleasant just like his appearance as a member of a foreign race, and his bad attitude, but it didn't seem as if he was lying right now. It was possible to reach the same conclusion as Liam if one was not delusional.
"Use your brain, or at least your Soultrait to figure out what kind of poison they've been inflicted with."
He lifted his hand from her head and flicked a finger against her forehead.
This playful act was totally different to how Liam usually reacted. He was not really sure what he was doing either. Going with the flow and pointing out some things to help Felicia improve would definitely be helpful in the long run. But even then, he was not too sure how to guide someone else.
He had never received guidance, not from good people at least. The torture he had to endure in order to become stronger under the 'guidance' of his 'teachers' was certainly not something he would like to share with others.
In fact, Liam would rather help Olivia, Jennie, and Felicia with normal means. They had been willing to attack and kill a fellow native human for his sake. When Max, the young martial artist, attacked Liam, they jumped in front of him and had been ready to protect him and kill Max if that was necessary.
They didn't even hesitate when jumping into action and had decided to shield him. That made Liam trust them a little. That was necessary, either way.
If he wanted others to trust him, he had to trust them first.
'Trust…how long has it been that I trusted someone? Forget about trust, I didn't even feel comfortable near other people…'
Liam had been a lone wolf in the past. His past experiences taught him that one could only rely on oneself and that others always had a hidden scheme. He lost his trust in others, and thus the comfort of letting himself loose, and feeling as if he belonged somewhere.
However, with the group that had formed around him during the last two weeks, Liam actually felt a little comfortable. That was not something he had planned to do when he thought of taking revenge.
His mind went astray and he fondly recalled his only loyal friends and his lover…
He recalled the tender smile she always gave him, the love in her eyes, and the way she had clung to him even though he had always tried to reject her before they finally became a couple. Their relationship had been a rollercoaster, but it had been fun, and the first time in Liam's life that he had been happy for a longer time.
Sadly, his mother, and the rest of his treacherous family members took away his happiness. They made him feel like he would never be able to be comfortable anywhere in the Nine Realms, and that he would never believe in the concept of happiness again.
But that didn't seem to have worked out as well as expected. He was not in any of the Nine Realms anymore but on Haltan. The group he created made him feel a little bit more comfortable and they made him forget that his life had only been filled with war, death, and betrayals.
"Use my brain? Soultrait? Do you want me to use my Soultrait to find out what type of poison we've been infected with?" Felicia asked, tilting her head while Liam's mind went blank.
Thinking about the past made him freeze in his tracks. He was not really sure what made him recall his lover and the only real friends had. It made him a little uncomfortable to think about them because it was his fault that they were dead.
If they had never gotten to know him, they would probably still be alive.
"You can also ask what Antidote we need to cleanse our body and get rid of the poison. It shouldn't be too much of an issue to purchase the antidote from the Arcane Shop, or some of the Elven's shops!" Olivia said, the worry in her eyes dispersing.
Meanwhile, Felicia shrieked upon hearing Olivia as relief spread through her entire being.
"We…don't have to die…" She mumbled, while Liam just looked at her with a small smile on his lips.
"Of course, we don't have to die, idiot."
