Chapter 209 - Extortion
Chapter 209 – Extortion (讹诈)
Being laid bare like this by Jing Yun Zhao, Wang Xin Fang lost all face so she quickly got off the bus. The intense rays from the sun outside made her face ruddier.
Jing Tie Jun opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but Jing Yun Zhao didn’t acknowledge him and directly called for a taxi to the largest hospital in Ning City.
“How expensive will the taxi fare be… If the three of us just took public transport, a few yuan would be enough…” Wang Xin Fang mumbled.
Her face looked like she had experienced hardship, and she would’ve probably looked better if she smiled, but her current distressed look was as if she was going to lose thousands of dollars.
“It’s nothing, isn’t it just a few tens of dollars? What’s more important than finding our daughter?” Jing Tie Jun returned.
Hearing such, Wang Xin Fang shut up.
Still, when they got off the taxi, without waiting for Jing Tie Jun to take out his money, Jing Yun Zhao had already finished paying.
She didn’t want to take advantage of people. If the results of the paternity test came out to show that they weren’t her biological parents, they’d probably make a ruckus over this small sum.
Having had enough of people like Qiao Wei Min, she currently had her walls up towards everyone.
The hospital in the centre of Ning City was one towering peak followed by another; it was indeed magnificent and impressive, not something their county could compete with.
The economy of Ning City can be ranked as one of the most prosperous in the entire country. Their medical advancements also illustrated the level of development in Ning City. Thus, putting aside the imposing ambience of the architecture, even the atmosphere inside was also excellent.
The test also wasn’t a troublesome matter; they just had to pay, draw some blood, then all that was left to do was wait.
Under Jing Yun Zhao’s insistence, the fee of a few thousand dollars was split evenly between them. This was in case it turned out they have no relation and then have a monetary conflict afterwards.
“Xiao Yun, look at how different it is in a large hospital…Oh yeah, I’ve been feeling breathless recently and my body feels uncomfortable. Since we’re already here, why don’t you accompany mom to take a look?” Wang Xin Fang knew that Jing Yun Zhao didn’t like coming in contact with people, so she just stood beside her with a look of expectation.
Jing Yun Zhao glanced at her before nodding.
The cubicles and rooms in this central hospital were segregated very clearly, all they had to do was take the elevator, and the room was easy to find.
Wang Xin Fang underwent a few checks while Jing Yun Zhao and Jing Tie Jun waited outside. There was a constant flow of people in the hospital, but even when Jing Yun Zhao stood in one spot, not moving, there was still someone who suddenly crashed into her.
“Aiya…! You little brat, how could you crash into people…It’s so painful…” The old lady who had fallen reprimanded her.
“I didn’t crash into you, you’re the one who threw yourself at me,” Jing Yun Zhao swiftly declared.
The surveillance cameras in the hospital weren’t everywhere, at least, the place where she was standing didn’t have any.
“You little brat, how can you speak such nonsense?! Are you her parent? How did you educate your child? It’s not like I want to extort anyone. These years, children are really becoming more and more disobedient…” The old granny picked herself up before she pointed her fingers at Jing Tie Jun and began to reprimand him.
Jing Tie Jun looked uneasy, “Pardon me, pardon me. My daughter didn’t do it on purpose. How about this, I have a few hundred dollars on me. Let me keep some for our road fare, and I’ll give you the rest…”
As Jing Tie Jun spoke, he stood in front of her to block her, as if he was afraid that she would be bullied. He frantically stuffed the money into the old woman’s hand and supported her as they walked away.
However, even though Jing Tie Jun looked like he was protecting her, Jing Yun Zhao wasn’t touched at all.
Whether it was her who did it, Jing Tie Jun understood it clearly in his heart. This kind of behaviour was only affirming the accusations against her. She, Jing Yun Zhao, had lived through one life. She would never shoulder blames that didn’t belong to her. Even with something as minor as this, she had no intention of letting it go!
“Hold it right there!”
Jing Yun Zhao called out with an icy expression. She directly walked towards them and took the money from the old woman before stuffing it back into Jing Tie Jun’s hands as she spoke, “When did this kind of logic, where the one being crashed into still had to pay money, exist in the world?!”
