Chapter 366
366 Zi Xingxi opens up about her husband
“We are eating it with steamed buns. Any objections?” she asked while Yi Chen took another spoon from the cutlery tray and reached over to taste it but his mother smacked his hand away.
Yi Chen, “???”
How come Yi Feng could eat and he couldn’t? Didn’t they come over to cheer him up?
“No objections auntie,” replied Yi Feng with a smug look on his face as though saying ‘he was loved more’. Yi Chen’s lips twitched while glowering at him. Meanwhile, Lin Ruoxi yelled again, “Any objections!”
The pair of siblings who were sitting on the couch messing with the floating screen answered simultaneously,
“Nope,”
“I like fluffy buns. Little Nim too. Wait, where is Nim Nim and Mr. Twiggles?” yelled Ming Ming while looking around.
Yi Youxi, “You lost him again? Bad auntie...”
Ming Ming, “I did not and I am the best auntie in the entire federation.”
.....
Yi Youxi, “Did too.”
Ming Ming, “Did not.”
This ‘did too’ and ‘did not’ cycle repeated itself until Lin Ruoxi couldn’t stand it anymore. “Feng-er, will you please go separate the two for me? Oh, here... give them some popcorn. Maybe that will keep their mouths busy,” she said while pouring out popcorn for her little minions.
Yi Feng nodded his head and took the bowl from her before taking out a handful and shoving it into his mouth.
“Mmm, butter and chives. My favourite,” said Yi Feng as he walked out.
Yi Chen sat down on the bar stool while asking, “Ming Ming said you are protesting.”
Lin Ruoxi picked up the cooking spoon and said, “Your father that’s who. He took away the best thing that has ever happened to you and I am not going to stand for it.”
Yi Chen lowered his gaze feeling a little complicated. He appreciated what his mother was doing for him but he also didn’t want his family to split up, be it temporarily, over this.
He was very upset with his father and simply refused to speak to him but in truth, he didn’t want the others to stop talking to him too. The issue was between them only.
“I appreciate it but I don’t want you and dad to fight over this any longer. Besides, I don’t plan on giving up,” he said before a bowl of popcorn was placed in front of him.
Yi Chen raised his head and his mother ruffled his hair like she used to do when he was younger and allowed her to.
“Good... and don’t worry about me and your dad. We will go back... soon enough. For now, we are here to help soothe that broken heart,” she said poking his chest presumably where his heart was.
Yi Chen glanced down and said, “Wrong side. That’s not where my heart is,” he said and Lin Ruoxi sighed. Who in their family didn’t have that one child who is particular about everything? Translation, the one who polices everyone in the family.
“How am I supposed to know that? I am not a biologist... now eat your popcorn while mummy works,” said Lin Ruoxi having a rare moment of deja vu. Her son once sat on the kitchen counter coloring while she was cooking and he tried to correct her pronunciation of the word ‘croissant’. Let’s just say Yi Chen at five was more stubborn than he was now.
While the Yi family and co were protesting at their house, Zi Han was sitting in a hovercar with his mother waiting for young master Croft who had escaped while they were dealing with the pervert Ikeda.
The young master was really good at running. He was like a snake burrowing into its hole after eating the farmer’s eggs.
Zi Xingxi further sank into her seat while taking out some bubble gum.
“You want some?” offered Zi Xingxi. Zi Han accepted it while asking,
“You are quitting smoking?”
Zi Xingxi pulled down her head scarf while saying, “Your grandfather confiscated all my cigarettes. He is getting very bossy lately.”
Zi Han rummaged through his pockets while saying, “What do you mean? He has always been bossy. It just ranges from mild to severe.”
He took out his secret stash and said, “I had to hide these from Yi Chen.”
Zi Xingxi’s brows arched as she pinched the cigarette between her lips. “What’s up with all of them? We are grown folk. We can smoke if we want,” she said while Zi Han flicked the lighter on and lit it for her.
“Well, it’s because they care too much,” replied Zi Han while placing a cigarette in his mouth.
He lit his as well while his mother said, “Your father cared too much as well. He used to hide them all the time and he started doing it before we even started dating,” she said before blowing a puff of smoke and continuing, “I would find in place of them, packets of bubble gum and lollipops. I would get mad and the entire class would feel my wrath during training. The culprit would blend in with the crowd pretending to be very innocent.”
Zi Han laughed inwardly as he leaned back in his seat. He was very happy inside. That’s because his mother finally opened up about his father. Maybe it was because she now had some closure. She now knew who had killed her loved one thus she was finally healing.
“So do we have any similarities besides the eyes?” he asked before taking a long drag of his cigarette. The red glow from his cigarette glimmered in the darkness giving one a sense of security from the loneliness stemming from the night
“You both get on my nerves,” said Zi Xingxi laughing quietly.
“Ma!” exclaimed Zi Han while staring at her all wide-eyed.
“... Hahaha, it’s true. I am just kidding...,” she said and Zi Han heaved a sigh only for Zi Xingxi to continue saying, “... not.”
Zi Han, “...”
Can he return his mum please without a receipt of course? Can he?
“You are as fun as he was. There wasn’t a moment in my day when I would be bored. He would let me put a bra on him. I could practice my makeup on him and he wouldn’t complain Hahaha... One time I asked him to stand in for me in a mandatory health class for women in the military and he actually did it. He came out of that class traumatized after watching a video on childbirth Hahahaha. Oh, and his father punished him for being in the girls’ health class. It was so funny,” said Zi Xingxi unable to contain herself. She was even slapping her thigh in laughter.
Zi Han, “...”
He could only think of one word that is ‘evvvvvilllll’ his mother was evil.
“After that, he held my shoulders and said, ‘artificial womb, artificial womb’. That’s my impression of your dad’s voice by the way. ‘Artificial womb, baby our baby is not going to come from there’. It was so funny it made me cry. I am telling you if he was there when you were born he would have passed out... thrice.”
Zi Han, “...”
