Chapter 114 Orc Elimination
"Hmm…"
'These guys must be some kind of scout team or something, Orcs should be stronger than this.' Dustin thought to himself as he looked at the four corpses on the ground next to him.
Unexpectedly, their blood was almost as red as normal blood, he would have expected it to be green or something similar.
Not minding that fact, he continued on his way deeper, looking to find the settlement of these monsters. He even thought about allowing his tamed monsters to do the extermination and gain some levels and increase their strength, but his strength was as important. He wasn't sure of what the future held, but if he was to go by what he had come to know, stronger was the way to go. He could always give his tamed beasts opportunities in the future.
Eventually, with little effort, Dustin came to the village settlement of the Orcs where their whole community lived in seclusion.
It was quite the site to see, monsters behaving like civilized creatures and engaging in other activities outside killing and similar behaviours.
'Maybe these are a different species?' Dustin thought to himself, or maybe humans were just unable to understand them. It was possibly so.
Either way, that didn't stop Dustin from carrying out his original plan and completing his task.
In the end it was all a game of survival, and the enemies, whether of the same race or not, would be crushed, regardless.
. .
In a week's time, Dustin had finished all he was to do there and the extermination was complete. Every Orc in the surrounding had been erased from existence, and the monster material he took with him was massive in quantity.
Dustin returned sometime after, to the city. The exercise this time definitely left something to think about.
Firstly, he would never have thought that monsters had children, he was very sure that it wasn't supposed to be so. Maybe these Orcs really were different from traditional monsters.
There were stories of dragons taking Ogres as subordinates after all.
…
After Dustin turned in his report and loot, plus some evidence that he had cleared the Orc region, it was sure to cause an uproar in the guild and the entire city. There was no need to be incognito at the moment, so he didn't mind the extra attention.
Of course, not everyone would be aware of what the person responsible looked like or much even, but his name would go far.
..
Dustin returned home after turning in his reports. He had anticipated what could happen, so instead of just causing a scene, he went to the guild master and had him replay what had happened to his staff and colleagues.
Unexpectedly, the first important thing at home after Dustin returned was the least of whatever he would ever expect. The possibility of it happening wasn't at all low, 'I guess I just hadn't thought about it.'
"About two days after you left, someone came in to deliver a confidential letter. They said they were from a certain genan guild, and that the letter was requested to be delivered to you." Rea explained, as he placed the letter before Dustin, on his table inside his bedroom, while he sat on the chair.
"He wouldn't even allow me hold onto the letter even after I told him that you would be gone for a while. He only came by yesterday to drop it with me saying that something urgent came up and he had to leave." She continued.
Of course, Rea had not opened the letter, so she knew not what the contents said. Dustin himself had heard of this guild a couple times, but nothing much. All he knew was that they were a big guild that was situated in a different city.
"It is expected that such a big guild would want to have me as one of their possessions, but I am not interested though." Dustin stated. Nevertheless, he still opened the letter to have a look through.
Rea excused herself afterwards not wanting to pry into what could be confidential. Dustin of course made no effort to stop her. If she had decided to stay, maybe he wouldn't have stopped her, but then he didn't seem to care either way.
"I was right, it is just as I suspected, but nothing out of the ordinary though." Dustin said to himself.
The letter did state the intentions of the genan guild quite well, but he didn't need to read it through, he wasn't interested in joining them.
"I should go check out the clearing at the back, this guy has been stuffy for long." He said to himself. Without looking, he had nailed the shot, as he threw into the rubbish bin a squeezed handful of paper and an envelope.
"They even said something about the Divine Scholar, these guys have a sturdy network, huh? They could even find that out." Dustin said to himself as he walked out of his room. He wasn't at all surprised.
…
"Did you here? A new champion has risen recently, he even destroyed the Orc region that was starting to pose a threat."
"Yeah, you heard it too? I even heard that he carried out the entire thing singlehandedly."
Such were the words and discussions Dustin heard on the street just a few days after he had returned. The news sure spread fast.
In these few days, he also received two more letters from two different guilds. This time, only one of them knew of his identity as the divine scholar, and he got to meet their envoys in person. One of the envoys had thought that knowing he was the Divine Scholar would make a difference and seemed pretty confident, but alas.
'I wouldn't be surprised if some hidden power is also interested at this point, it's completely possible. I swear, these people are very diverse, the settings are so sophisticated.' Dustin thought to himself, while also thinking how long it had been since he had any contact with the Messenger.
