Chapter 39 [Bonus ]Time's Up!
"I can't believe this." Kane said, as he stared at the river, his eyes scanning all over it's surface looking for any signs of survivors.
After the shark monster emerged, it wrecked havoc of the river surface, and left the majority dead. From Kane's former team, only three of them survived, the rest died, luckily, his sister also survived. There were some people left at the other side who didn't cross and remained there, battling the swarm of monsters.
Many who had managed to make it to the other side of the river stood there watching those that were left behind, some with a bit of hope in their minds that those people survive, while others just to see their fate. Although it was night, the moon was up and it shone a brilliant light down on the land below, enabling those who had crossed to grasp much of what was happening exactly on the other side.
"Do you perhaps, pity them?" Kane asked Benny, with a down voice.
"Are you crazy? I basically just sacrificed tens of people to save my own skin, what's a few more?" Benny answered, his voice cold and without remorse. "I'm waiting to see the monster that made that fearsome growl earlier."
"Oh, I see. But, if this place is not a safe zone but still doesn't have lots of monsters, I was thinking there might be some kind of restriction put around."
"I thought so too. This should be the best water source for the monsters, yet they don't wander close. If the normal monsters can still somehow enter the area, ignoring the restriction to an extent, maybe unlike them the bigger one can't." Benny said.
They watched for a while, but the monster they were waiting for never came, and the remaining people had also managed to kill majority of the monsters, while the rest ran away.
"How are they going to survive now?" Kane asked.
"I don't believe they are all stupid. Someone will catch on to what happened, and use that for himself. For now, we should be glad we survived. We don't have the luxury of thinking about others." Benny said, as he turned and left.
After a while walking through the forest, Benny was getting impatient, and couldn't help but ask.
"Why are you idiots following me?"
"Ah, well... Should we not? We are a team after a-"
"We were a team kid. Not anymore. Take your sister and find your own way." Benny said, as he continued walking.
Despite his complains, Kane and his sister didn't listen, as his complains only fell on deaf ears. To top it off, the third member of the team had also tagged along, bringing their number to a total of four people. Benny was a bit infuriated by this development, but there was nothing he could do at the moment. Kane was quite useful and wasn't as inexperienced as he looked, and his sister, well, she made good meals from basically nothing (as in little ingredients). As for the third member, who was also a girl, she was the most useless, as she contributed little to nothing.
'Who shit on my luck like this?' Benny thought.
...
On the 15th day of the 2nd month, around the area where the river was, small safe pockets started appearing. These safe pockets could hold a maximum of 20 – 50 people, and food enough for one meal was provided for all everyday. By this time, those that were trapped and couldn't cross the river had crossed, and new people had arrived the scene, with the endless cycle of sacrifice repeating itself. These safe pockets were all around in the thousands, and served as a life saver for many.
With every passing day, the number of these safe pockets kept increasing, and stretching further away from the river, and into the forest, on both sides of the river.
...
A week into the third month, Raven, Mizu, and the rest of their team reached the red marker, and now stood at the bottom of mountain. The mere distance from the bottom of the mountain to the top made their legs weak, but as it had to be done, they began their ascent.
When they finally reached the top, they were greeted with a wonderful view that relieved their stress and tiredness a bit. Without a word, everyone knew to stay there for a while before descending the mountain.
(== will be used to represent every other person's system)
==You have reached the quest's destination==
==Quest complete==
==Head into the town==
A similar message appeared before everybody written on the interface they saw at the beginning, when they first got to Na'ash. There was no vocal transmission like Dustin's system, but everything was written clearly for them to read.
After a bit of rest, they heading down the mountain, and approached the town's gates.
Similar to Raven's group, the Genan group(Nathan and Marcel) had also arrived at the foot of the mountain, on the last day of the 2nd month. Looking at their maps, they could tell they had reached the red marker, and everyone celebrated.
As for climbing the mountain, they left that thought. They had arrived at night, and had been travelling the entire day, everyone was beyond exhausted. They were already here, so they decided to camp at the mountain's foot for the night, and ascend the mountain the following morning.
With them, some small groups also arrived, and before mid night, more than seven groups had gathered below the mountain. All, wanting to climb the mountain the next day.
The following morning, on the 1st day of the 3rd month around 6 in the morning, a general announcement was given. The one, who gave this announcement, wasn't the messenger's assistant or himself, rather, it was the system everybody possessed.
Beep Beep
A simultaneous sound came from everybody's interface.
==The quest has come to an end==
==The restrictions over the entire forest has been removed, and the beasts' rank will return to normal==
==All safe zones apart from the ones that existed prior will be removed==
==Good Luck==
After this, there was a short period of calmness, before everyone lost it.
Dustin who had been brushing his teeth at that moment almost swallowed the water his was rinsing his mouth with.
[New update to last quest]
[The quest has come to an end]
[The restrictions over the entire forest has been removed, and the beasts' rank will return to normal]
[All safe zones apart from the ones that existed prior will be removed]
After he heard everything, he almost ran back into the forest that instant. If the beats' rank had returned to normal, that meant stronger beasts than those of F rank would have appeared.
"Fuck this. But, wait. I shouldn't be too greedy. Yes, it's good not to be greedy. I can always do this later, don't want to drag attention either." Dustin said, as he dragged himself back into the bathroom.
..
"Good thing we made it on time. If would have been disastrous if not."
