Chapter 71 Defective Play II
"Hey kid! I don't think our weapons will be able to do much of anything against that thing. So listen carefully to the plan, look up." Benny said.
Above hanging over the ceiling of the cave like tunnel was a hanging rock piece that they could use to their advantage, and the obvious plan was to get it to fall on the monster. Seeing as the monster was one with an exoskeleton, it was quite evident that the body would be extremely though, so they weren't even going to test their weapons on it.
"Did you get that Kane? You are the one we hand our lives unto." Another person said from behind.
"Shut it already. You'll cause the tension to rise, not like it isn't already up." Kane replied.
The plan was simple. Benny and the others will act as bait and also distract the giant scorpion monster, baiting it towards the spot where the rock would drop on its back, and also keeping it busy so that it does not spot Kane. Since Kane was the strongest among the group, naturally he was also the one tasked with the job of crushing the hanging mound of rock.
The group of five began their move immediately, not allowing the monster to take the initiative first and lead the fight. Benny and three others charged forward, bearing to strike their weapons at the scorpion monster. Avoiding its whipping tail which it thrusted forward with much manoeuvrability, Benny and the rest managed to get its attention unto themselves, and created a way for Kane to move into position. They continued playing this dangerous game of luring the until they got into place.
Kane had given them the signal that he was in place earlier, and because he couldn't make any noise not to attract the monster, his teammates below had to constantly check whether he was in position. When they guided the monster until it reached directly below the hanging rock, Kane made his move and struck the rock with all he had. The plan was to cause it to fall unto the monster by hitting it, but again there was something they didn't account for.
The plan was going smoothly up until Kane had to do his part, but what they didn't factor in was the possible chance of failure. Kane moved well, and struck the mound of hanging rock, but it just so happened that the strike was not enough to cause the piece to fall.
The moment he hit the hanging rock, the monster spotted him, but as the nothing came crashing down, Kane was very much exposed while mid-air as he just fell to the ground unable to change his direction mid-air.
"Fuck.."
"Run up on it! Remove its attention from Kane!" Benny yelled as he noticed what was happening.
They all moved in to try and distract the monster, but they were nowhere fast enough for it. The scorpion monster using its tail with a stinger on it sprung it upwards towards Kane. For a moment there it was looking grim for Kane, as the others watched it happened, still halfway from reaching the monster.
Unable to change direction midair, with his chest pounding fast and hard like it would rip out of his chest, Kane's whole body was trembling as he faced possible death. This wasn't the first time something like this had happened, but maybe because of this exact fact, it felt even more detrimental to Kane, as he could also recall the previous experience. With every will power within him, Kane forced himself as he squeezed his eyes together.
'NO!! WORK! PLEASE WORK!'
Just then, the stinger got to him while his eyes were just opening, and the expression of his teammates could not be explained as they witnessed it.
CLANG!!
In the last of moments when Kane opened his eyes, his body almost moved automatically on its own and he drew out his sword and obstructed the stinger, slightly deflecting it upward. His body fell to the ground after that, and then like magic, the hanging mound of rock that hung over the ceiling fell upon the scorpion monster.
"KANE!" His teammates screamed in unison as they rushed towards him to see if he was ok.
"Hey, how are you? Did you break anything?" His sister asked.
"My God, we thought you were a goner." His other teammate said.
"Haha, I can't believe it either."
They helped him up unto his feet, and after a few seconds, he was ok and the trembling had gone for the most part.
"Alright people! We should get going as soon as possible, or we might actually die." Benny said. The scorpion monster was not dead; it was still very much alive.
"Shit! Get your shit together Kane! We have to move."
Immediately, they all rushed away from the spot before the monster would be able to regain its freedom. Just as thought, the exoskeleton was no joke, and it could actually withstand the force of the falling boulder sized rock. This time, they could only thank their luck for what happened.
.
.
"Hey guys, it seems another group passed here not long ago, and they even left behind a present!"
"What th- WOOOW! This monster should be very strong! The core will be most valued as well!"
"Heheh. Quick! Dig it up!" 'Our luck just keeps getting better each time.'
...
"Hah.. Hah.. Hah.. Hah... For the first time in this place, everything actually behaved normal. I wonder what's the occasion."
Finally, Dustin actually managed to reach his destination in the specified time that it would take for him to reach something that far in a normal world. If there was one thing that was peculiar about this place Dustin was dumped in, it was that every where here was further apart than they actually seem.
The structure Dustin saw from afar turned out to be something like a temple. From it's all white colour to its design, Dustin could tell that it is a worship, or rather used to be the worship center for a god, or such being. The building itself seemed very old, and most of the erected pillars and other parts had collapsed, while others weren't in the best of conditions.
Dustin began exploring the place after he rested for some minutes, and to his disappointment, there was nothing particularly promising about the place. In the end it might have just been an old building that happened to find its way here.
Dustin walked around once more just for clarity, and then again, and again. The single fact that this place was nothing special was even more frustrating than walking through endless lands at this very moment. He would shout or do something to express his anger and frustration, but even the strength to do so was not in him.
For the last time while feeling wronged and pissed, Dustin had unintentionally being walking through the structure, and this time around, something seemed to be different. For one, the layout of the entire wasn't exactly as he thought he had seen just some moments ago, and then there was the room that he was yet to check. If his memory served him right, Dustin could quite remember that there was no room here before, and that this place was just designed to look like a door, but was actually a wall, but now-
Dustin approached slowly, and then he just increased his steps. At this point, was there any reason to be so overly cautious? Just a bit of it was ok.
As he approached the door and got within cemtimetres of touching it, he could feel a strange energy coming from behind the door, and it wasn't a one second feeling, as it continuously brushed through him. This feeling caused Dustin to hesitate for a moment about opening the door, but then that was the only way that wasn't like everyother thing this place had to offer, so he couldn't really turn back at that moment.
'There's no reason to turn back at this point. Let whatever is to happen, happen.' Dustin resolved himself, as he pushed on the door, and like a scene from some horror movie, the door would swing open slowly-
No, it didn't.
After prying open the door a little, it stopped, and Dustin had to be the force causing the motion once again, and not at all easy was it. It felt like the door weighed a couple tons, as it wouldn't even move an inch if Dustin pushed.
"What the fuck? It was so easy to open just moments ago." Dustin said.
For something like some weighted door to exist in such a place was really not an ordinary thing, as this was mostly the plot for when important things were found, so Dustin didn't give up.
Using every ounce of strength he had left, Dustin applied the maximum amount of pressure he could on the door and pushed with everything he had, but in the end he had only managed to push it to open just the slightest bit more.
"The fuck? If it won't budge, then there's only one option."
