Chapter 282
Indeed, it wasn't lost. Katherine's action had merely concealed the necklace at most.
Not only was the necklace hidden, but even its aura was masked.
However, if Chloe were to run and jump, she could still feel that warm flow, and if she reached out to touch it, she could clearly sense the necklace's texture.
This act of concealment, however, carried a hint of guilty conscience.
Chloe cautiously asked, "Darling, tell me honestly, where did you steal this necklace from? Is it important?"
Katherine blinked twice, hesitated for a long while, and finally answered, "It is quite important, but the fact that I could take it means it's better off with me than elsewhere."
She paused, then added, "Now that it's with me, how to dispose of it is my business."
Chloe thought about it carefully and realized it made sense.
So she happily put the matter out of her mind.
She couldn't be bothered with all that. Since the thing was given to her, it was hers now, and no one else could take it from her hands, not a chance.
Chloe snuggled into her sleeping bag, falling asleep with a happy smile on her face.
...
The next morning, a gentle breeze stirred.
Chloe was awakened by the piercing sunlight filtering through the tent flap.
Before she could fully come to her senses, she heard a commotion outside.
Chloe furrowed her brow, crawled out of her sleeping bag full of resentment, and walked towards the outside of the tent.
Outside, a dense crowd had gathered, mostly Vampire soldiers.
Besides them, there were also many Elf Race soldiers on the opposite side.
At the front stood several elders from the Elder Council.
They looked somewhat familiar; Chloe assumed they were the stubborn and pedantic faction she had seen before.
Xavier stood at the forefront of these Elves, his posture straight, black hair flowing, white gloves immaculate.
Chloe took in the sight, and two words flashed through her mind — "Pretentious prick."
Xavier must be someone who cares greatly about his image, always appearing flawless at every encounter.
At this moment, one of the Elf Race elders was cursing with a red face:
"Xavier, don't think you can do whatever you want just because you're the Vampire progenitor. Have you forgotten that the Elf Race is the natural enemy of Vampires? If it really comes to blows, it'll be a 50-50 chance at best, and your Vampires won't come out unscathed!"
As mentioned before, the Vampires' Soul Fire could burn through everything in the world, except for the Elf Race's vines.
But as soon as these words were spoken, Xavier smiled enigmatically.
His expression was like that of a tiger hearing a rabbit threaten to kill him — utterly amusing.
He shook his head, his smile unchanging, his demeanor elegant and proper:
"How naive. You don't actually believe that Soul Fire is the only weapon Vampires possess, do you?"
It was true that the Elf Race was the natural enemy of Vampires, but this didn't mean they could lord it over the Vampires.
Otherwise, why would Vampires be the strongest race on the continent, and not the Elf Race?
As his words fell, the Elf Race elders' expressions changed dramatically.
Finally, they burst out in anger, "Xavier, you go too far! This is our Elf Race territory. How dare you run amok here!"
Xavier looked at them as if they were ultimate imbeciles: "I've already said, I didn't bring my army here to attack the Elf Race."
"If I wanted to, you would have all been dead and buried yesterday. How could you still be standing here alive, even daring to confront me?"
The Elf Race elder angrily retorted, "Are we supposed to thank you for that?!"
Xavier calmly replied, "Yes, is there something wrong with that?"
The opposing Elf Race elder was so enraged that blood seemed to flow from his seven orifices, nearly causing him to collapse on the spot.
When Chloe bounced over to stand beside Xavier, she looked up and saw clear confusion in the eyes of this Vampire ruler.
He truly didn't understand why these Elf Race elders kept picking on him, as if they had a screw loose.
Paranoia?
Seeing Chloe, Xavier's mood seemed to calm a bit.
His gaze lingered on Chloe's entire body for a moment, checking if she had been injured overnight.
Obviously, she hadn't been. Even the wound on her neck from yesterday had healed, leaving only a small mark.
But soon, Xavier's gaze paused, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes:
"Wait, what's that on your neck..."
Before he could finish, the Elf Race elder in front spat out a mouthful of blood. After being helped to sit down, he fixed Xavier with a hateful glare and then snarled:
"Attack! Capture all these damned Vampires!"
"The fate of the Elf Race rests on the shoulders of you brave warriors!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the Elf Race soldiers behind him let out a cheer, raised their weapons, and charged towards Xavier and his group.
The soldiers clashed in close combat, and the wide field instantly erupted into fierce fighting.
Within minutes, people had already died on the scene.
Xavier's brow furrowed.
In the next instant, enormous bat wings sprouted from his back, their shocking length and width leaving onlookers stunned.
The bat wings flapped slowly, lifting Xavier into the air.
The wings blocked out the sky, casting a huge shadow.
When Qin Huaibei and the others ran over, they were momentarily surprised. Daniel quipped:
"Is your old man about to unleash his ultimate move?"
Chloe nodded solemnly: "Looks like it."
Seeing this, the Elves opposite were terrified. The elder's voice trembled:
"Form ranks, form ranks, quickly!"
The stunned Elves snapped out of their daze, gathering in a circle to chant spells. Pale blue and light green colors appeared from their interlocked hands, gradually forming a large net-like protective shield.
It was beautiful, but beautiful things can be fragile.
Because with just a lift of his finger, Xavier's enormous magical fluctuation crushed that large net to pieces.
Meeting the terrified gazes of the Elves, Xavier's expression remained unchanged, even showing a hint of disdain.
Seeing the situation turn unfavorable, the Elf Race elder quickly changed tactics. He unexpectedly turned to Chloe and shouted:
"Miss Chloe, you and our holy maiden have been close friends for many years. Even so, will you allow Xavier to attack us so viciously?"
Chloe raised her head in confusion: Huh? How did this suddenly involve her?
Although she certainly didn't approve of Xavier's actions, but...
"Can we be reasonable here? It was clearly you who attacked my father first. Before that, did my father lay a finger on any of you?"
The Elder of the Elf Race was momentarily rendered speechless, but he still refused to give up. "However..."
"However my ass," Chloe snapped irritably. "I don't have any friend who's a holy maiden of the Elf Race. Wasn't Katherine no longer your Elven holy maiden from the very beginning? That was decreed by your own Elder Council."
"How ridiculous. Now you suddenly remember you have a holy maiden?"
