Chapter 609: Chapter 603: Terrifying Charm
According to the rules of the Trainer Guild, a trainer must possess at least a Class VI pet in order to undergo King-level Trainer certification; otherwise, they can only be classified as a Quasi-Master.
So when David Jones said he had no Class VI pets, the battle exam that hadn’t yet started was already over.
After all, the reason why the Trainer Guild implements practical combat assessments in the King certification process is twofold: on one hand, it measures the strength of the trainer’s pet, and on the other hand, it helps the newly ascended Class VI pets master the combat methods of a King through intense battles.
However, remembering the evaluation of the Illusion Star Helmet and glancing at Minister Harvey, Hubert Sander ultimately dared not voice that statement.
Generally speaking, those King-level Trainers who manage to become directors of the Guild usually have significant backing, and since everyone has different responsibilities, they tend to mind their own business. Logically, Hubert Sander should not need to be concerned about Tracy Harvey’s reaction.
Unfortunately for him, the backing behind him was Minister Harvey’s power, so Hubert Sander’s mind raced to find the few exceptions in the systems published by the Guild, and then his eyes lit up.
“Of course, you can, but the difficulty of the practical exam for Class V pets is greatly increased, and the condition for passing the exam changes from withstanding the fight for twenty minutes to defeating the examiner’s main pet.”
Glancing at the recording cameras around, Hubert Sander recalled an almost forgotten rule within the Guild.
“Good.”
David Jones nodded slightly. His initial goal had been to complete the Arcane Star certification using the credibility of the Trainer Guild, but now that he had the opportunity to complete the King-level Trainer exam in one shot, saving a lot of time, the increased difficulty didn’t bother him.
To speak bluntly, among the lower-level Class VI Beasts, he couldn’t find one that Rainbow could not defeat.
“Fine, then I’ll trouble Minister Harvey to act as the referee.”
After speaking, light flickered from the Star Ring on Hubert Sander’s finger, and a summoning Rune Circle burst forth with a body as massive and imposing as a mountain, instantly weighing down the atmosphere around it.
The dark brown Dragon Scales, interwoven with wisps of profound, smoke-gold mystique, extended down from the fierce Crystal protuberances along the neck covering the entire body. Its sturdy limbs, like pillars upholding the heavens, exuded a heavy Domination, while its honest Dragon Eyes shone with an intelligent gleam; clearly, this was an intelligent Earth Dragon.
“Ooh!”
The dark brown Giant Dragon hummed lowly, raising its head to inspect David Jones with a hint of respect and curiosity in its eyes.
“What’s going on???”
Hubert Sander’s heart skipped a beat, surprised as he glanced at his own pet.
Through the Beast Taming Contract connection, he could distinctly sense that his pet’s admiration for David Jones far exceeded that which it had for him.
What a joke, he was the Earth Dragon’s Trainer!
Hubert Sander felt a sourness and incomprehension in his heart.
How could it be, before the battle even started, that his fourth carefully nurtured pet was already contemplating a change of allegiance!
Ignoring the Giant Dragon’s reverent gaze, David Jones’s eyes narrowed, and the Illusion-Piercing Eye skill activated instantly.
“Pet Name”: Rock Scaled Dragon
“Pet Type”: Earth, Dragon
“Species Level”: King
“Strength Level”: Class VI, lower-level
“Species Skill”: Mountain Shaking Dragon Body, Trembling Dragon Scale, Mountain Dragon Column, Sand Wiping Dragon Breath, Dragon Assault, King Domination
“Pet Profile”: The Rock Scaled Dragon is an outstanding half dragon within the Earth Dragon species, possessing exceptional offensive and defensive capabilities. However, its excessively slow speed often leads it into peril during battle.
The rock crystal on its chest will explode with a lethal attack in response to the damage it sustains in battle, a trait of a dragon adept at turning the tides when cornered, whose strength is sufficient to annihilate mountains, hence the name “Rock Scaled”.
“What an astonishing aura!” David Jones’s expression became tight.
Among all beasts, Dragon Pets are second to none; their inherent special abilities enable them to challenge magical creatures stronger than themselves. Although this Rock Scaled Dragon is only Class VI, lower-level, it is likely that an ordinary middle-level Class VI beast would be no match for it.
On the other side, feeling his scalp tingle, Hubert Sander decided to give it his all in the battle, abandoning any thought of going easy, lest the Rock Scaled Dragon become dissatisfied with him due to David Jones’s strength.
After all, a Beast Taming Contract isn’t omnipotent!
Friction and conflict are inevitable when Trainers and their Pets have been together for a while. Sometimes, they even grow to loathe each other and attempt to break free from the Contract, while the Beast Taming Contract can only maintain the most basic level of compliance.
When faced with disobedient Pets, a Trainer may force the Contract to command the battle, but not only does this consume a great deal of Arcane Force, but the Pet also performs at a much reduced strength.
In short, Trainers who believe that forming a Beast Taming Contract means they can rest easy often find themselves backstabbed by their Pets.
For instance, Hubert Sander now sensed that the Rock Scaled Dragon scorned him internally, causing him great nervousness.
“Kill the master to chase the mighty!” This phrase that’s all the rage on the Trainer Guild’s official website isn’t without basis—it’s a cruel reality.
A Trainer may give up their Initial Pet with limited potential for one of a higher Species Level, and naturally, a higher-level Pet may also forsake a weak Trainer, opting for a Contract with a Trainer who has a brighter future.
Of course, with the constraints of the Beast Taming Contract, it is hard for a Pet to unilaterally break the contract unless its strength far exceeds that of the Trainer. It must fight obediently under the terms of the Contract, but it can cause enough trouble during battle to give the Trainer a pounding headache, much like a shrewish wife at home.
“Put away your little schemes, he is the new generation’s brightest training talent from the Flowery Kingdom. At just twenty, he became a King. He’s the Rosewood Leader at Rosewood College, with the potential of a legend. Even if you actively sought him out, with your strength and potential, he would not consider Contracting with you.”
Hubert Sander mentally chastised, hoping to snap the Rock Scaled Dragon, whose eyes were filled with David Jones, out of its reverie.
“Ugh!”
Hearing this, the Rock Scaled Dragon immediately got serious, exuding an aggressive aura as it tried to prove its strength before David Jones.
For Hubert Sander, this reaction was akin to a silent yet devastating blow, making him instinctively cover his forehead.
This is just ridiculous!
He even suspected that David Jones might be some human-shaped incubus! No, this ability to allure Pets was even more exaggerated than that of an incubus. His Rock Scaled Dragon, which he had cultivated for years, almost got its soul hooked at the first meeting!
David Jones was unaware of Hubert Sander’s frustrations and found his actions somewhat strange. He then lifted his right hand, and his exquisite Flood Dragon Wristwatch expanded swiftly under the envious gaze of the Rock Scaled Dragon.
As the liberating cries of a dragon filled the air, Rainbow’s huge form floated midair, a domineering Domination spreading in all directions, sending crystal-like ice flowers drifting down to form clusters of sharp frost on the Duel Platform.
“Such peak class V strength is hardly fitting for such an outstanding Trainer!” The Rock Scaled Dragon narrowed its gaze, overflowing with the will to fight.
