Amelia's form finally wavered as he said those words. He felt her shift for the first time since he had hugged her.
And in the next moment, he felt his shoulders getting wet, making him realize that the tears she had held back for so long had finally broken down.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
In tandem, he felt her move again, before wrapping her arms around him and reciprocating the hug.
All the feelings and tears she had held back for so long...
Amon had made her finally release it all out on his shoulders.
And he was there for it all, giving her his shoulder to cry as much as she wanted.
The two remained locked in a hug for several minutes without moving, in complete silence except for the sound of quite sobbing from Amelia on his shoulders.
It was only when she was finally done that she moved apart, wiping the tears from her eyes. "Thank you..Amon." She said, trying to clear her now puffy eyes.
She offered him a simple but charming smile, one that brought relief to Amon.
Because it was a smile without burdens, one free of everything as she had let it all out.
And Amon reciprocated with a grateful, simple smile of his own.
"I should be the one saying thanks." He ruffled his hair a little.
Amelia shook her head with a smile.
"I did nothing. Rather, I should apologize as well. For not being there for Katherine when you disappeared..." There was a flicker of another regret and burden in her eyes.
But Amon shook his head in response as well.
"It's fine, I understand your position. And I'm sure my sister does as well."
Amelia nodded, but there was still a hint of regret in her action.
Amon quickly tried to change the topic.
"That reminds me, are my friends and sister okay? After 'that' I mean...." He said, trying to not voice it out.
It was clear that both of them didn't want to mention the attack out clear.
The deaths and what happened to Arthur. Both of them had a deep and seething for the organization that had done it.
But despite that, currently, Amon was worried about his friends and family and if they were unharmed in the attack.
But to his relief, Amelia nodded.
"They are fine. I don't know what happened to them after the attack but last I saw, they only had minor injuries. As for Katherine, I wasn't able to meet her since the incident." Amelia said, trying to avert her eyes again at the mention again.
But she stopped when she saw Amon's eyes transfixed on her, telling her again that it wasn't her fault.
And she stopped from moving her eyes.
Amon nodded, both at her answer and action.
Grabbing the edge of the sofa, he stood up with a light groan from his lips.
He stumbled a little but Amelia quickly held his arm, reaching his side swiftly. "Thanks." He voiced out his thanks with a smile which was reciprocated by Amelia. "I guess I'll go back home and check up on my sister." He said, looking at Amelia.
She quickly retorted, her voice tinged with concern.
"You are in no condition to move around this much. I'll help you walk home."
But Amon quickly shook his hand, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm good, don't worry about me. I can walk perfectly fine after a little movement."
He looked at her exhausted face.
"Rather, go home and get a good sleep for once. Leave all this aside and rest well for once."
He said, clearly highlighting his reasons by staring at her face.
Amelia quickly tried to retort but was interrupted by Amon again.
"But-"
"No buts. Listen to me and go. This isn't a request but an order." He looked her straight into her amber-golden eyes, his gaze serious.
There was silence between them for a second before Amelia nodded, listening to him.
"Okay."
Amon offered her a grateful smile before letting go of her arms and standing on his own. "I'll meet you tomorrow. Take care of yourself. Don't worry about Arthur. It's my promise to you that we will get him back." He offered a supportive smile to her.
Amelia nodded with a smile, trusting his promise.
Giving her a final goodbye smile, Amon moved to the door, his cane tapping against the rugs as a means of support.
But as he twisted the metallic handle, he heard Amelia from behind again.
"In return..."
Amon halted and looked back at her concerned face.
"In return, can you promise me another thing?" She asked.
Amon made an inquisitive face before nodding.
"Sure, ask away."
She hesitated for a moment before saying it.
"Can you promise that you will take care of yourself more and stop harming yourself while getting into these dangerous situations?"
Amelia said, her cheeks flushed slightly red which Amon was unable to notice in the golden lighting of the room.
Staring at her concerned face, a trusting and simple smile spread on Amon's lips and he
opened his mouth, nodding.
"Yeah. I promise to take care of myself more and be careful about these situations."
Amelia smiled gratefully as they exchanged one final look.
Before Amon opened the door and left the room, leaving her alone.
But as he left, his last words echoed in the room again.
"Again, I'm eternally in your debt for taking care of me, Amelia."
Amelia was taken by surprise, but then the door shut.
As the sounds of his footsteps faded away, Amelia kept staring at the floor with a thankful smile, also unaware of the light red flush on her cheeks.
This was the first peaceful day for both of them after the incident, bringing them relief and gratitude as both of them were able to face each other and release all their burdens.
