The Unexpected Rise Before My Exit from the Entertainment Industry

Chapter 372: Weiyang cp, Give it all to me.

Chapter 372

As soon as they entered the room, the two got busy. Qin Wei sat on the living room sofa blow-drying her hair while complaining:

"The boss of a whole company, how could Ms. He be so stingy! She told me to come on vacation, but still made me share a room with you. Please, I'm not even worth a room to myself?"

"But this is a suite, you have your own bedroom!" Su Yang explained. "She was just worried you'd run off at any time if you were alone. With a friend like me here, even if you leave you'll give us notice first. You won't let her make the trip for nothing."

Qiao Sixiao was not surprised by this publicity stunt during the promotions period. After all, contrived romance was common enough, which was why Ms. He had invited Qin Wei to visit the set this morning.

But oddly enough, He Hong seemed more invested this time. Not only did she have Su Yang cooperate, but she personally invited Qin Wei to come over that very evening and sent Su Yang to pick her up.

Qiao Sixiao checked the trending topics on her phone and guessed at He Hong’s motives. Perhaps she knew there were paparazzi staking the place out and wanted to take advantage of them to promote the Qiao Sixiao/Su Yang couple.

If so, that would explain things.

But...

At the same time, other artists at the company also had dramas starting promotions. Yet in the meetings, He Hong just went through the usual motions, at most urging the agents and publicity teams to be more attentive, nothing more.

A results-focused He Hong who normally didn’t care about the details had suddenly taken a special interest in such a small promotion.

After all, her original stance towards both Qiao Sixiao and Su Yang was the same:

No dating, no romance publicity. Focus PR on their careers and limit personal life exposure as much as possible.

So why the sudden change of heart?

There was only one possibility.

After thinking it over, Qiao Sixiao turned to Qin Wei:

"I think you must have some value to He Hong."

...

"Cut! Good work everyone, take five!"

The next day the crew started shooting early. On break, Little Wang immediately brought Qiao Sixiao some water.

"Have some warm water, you must be tired!"

Qiao Sixiao waved the cup away and softly asked, "Did she get up late? Did you prepare breakfast for her?"

Little Wang shook his head, then nodded. "I went a little early... Ms. Qin was still sleeping. She said she was too tired and didn't want to eat..."

Qiao Sixiao looked Little Wang in the eye. "You went after 10, right? How's that early? Why's she tired? Or are you trying to avoid her and making up stories for me?"

Little Wang mumbled vaguely, "No sister, I didn't..."

Clearly Qiao Sixiao didn't believe him, so Little Wang racked his brains for proof.

"Um... when I went into the bedroom, I saw Ms. Qin's... bras were white... Never mind sis, I was wrong."

Qiao Sixiao: "???"

Luckily Qin Wei arrived a few minutes later, looking fresh from a good sleep and in decent spirits.

Waving at Qiao Sixiao in greeting, she walked over to Su Yang with a book in hand and sat beside him. Su Yang's lips curled into a charming smile.

"Good morning. Over here to put on a show?"

"Yup. And to get some tutoring from you while I'm at it."

Qin Wei tossed him the book. "Explain this to me."

Without a word Su Yang flipped through the pages.

"Fourth week huh. We should be on Rolle's Theorem and the Mean Value Theorem now. But like this, does it look like we're dating?"

"What else would it look like?" Qin Wei countered. "Trying too hard would seem fake. Acting normal is more realistic. Just imagine two nerdy lovers sitting together studying, it's inevitable right?"

The corner of Su Yang's mouth twitched but his smile remained. He spread open the book.

"First tell me, do you even qualify to call yourself a nerd? What's arcsin?"

Qin Wei heard the familiar yet foreign pronunciation and her lingering sleepiness surged. She leaned back against her chair with her arms crossed, calmly stating:

"Okay then, let's start from arcsin!"

Su Yang: "(。>?<。)..."

"Don't get so caught up in meaningless terminology. Terms aren't important, verbs are. And acting requires conviction and belief. Believe it yourself first before expecting others to believe it."

Hearing this from Qin Wei, even Qiao Sixiao had to laugh.

Su Yang seized the chance to ask:

"Then repeat back to me the exponential and logarithm functions I just explained."

Qin Wei: "......"

Su Yang: "(╯‵□′)╯(┴─┴!!!"

Lunch was in the trailer, with the option of napping afterwards. Originally Qin Wei wasn't tired, but listening to Su Yang's lecture drained her energy.

By her bedside she even managed to doze off sitting up.

In the afternoon when Su Yang was filming, Qin Wei went to watch again. For nearly the whole time Little Wang held an umbrella over her as they stood by set, her knees aching.

"Who knows if the paps got shots or not. My legs are killing me."

Qin Wei rubbed her knees and checked the trending topics on her phone.

Sure enough someone had sneaked photos that made the rankings. But rather than what she expected, many were sympathizing with Su Yang, telling him to drop the benevolent act and stop trying to save a hopeless cause.

Incidentally there were also jabs at Qin Wei for being an idiot who couldn't even handle high school math.

Qin Wei asked Little Wang, "Is high school math hard?"

Little Wang firmly nodded. "Hard!"

[Little Wang's Diary: How hard could foundational studies get? It depends on the person I guess. Like for me in college, I thought high school math was very simple. Same with my major, I didn't think Java was that difficult either. But chatting with Little Li once, she actually found it hard... She even said it was a big reason she changed careers.

I thought about it and figured every person just has things they aren't good at! Just like this silly cutie pie asking me "Is high school math hard?", it's like your boss's first-grade daughter asking you "Is one plus one hard?" You gotta tell her "Kid, only idiots think one plus one is hard!" before rage-quitting the job. What else can you do?]

...

Before dinner He Hong called Little Wang, saying she had booked a restaurant and to bring Qiao Sixiao and Ms. Qin over.

She specifically instructed Little Wang:

"Tell them I want to discuss work, mainly some arrangements going forward."

After passing on the message, Little Wang saw Qin Wei was clearly anxious, but after fretting back and forth she still agreed to go in the end.

Once in the car, she whispered to Qiao Sixiao:

"You were probably right. He Hong must have some plans for me!"
