Chapter 378 - Intruder!
They entered the plain room with no furniture inside, the only thing that Veronica noticed are the two closed doors.
"What is this room?" Veronica asked curiously.
"It's the room that connects the main residence and the wide facility that was built underground," Nathan replied.
"Really-?" Veronica asked. She didn't expect that there is an underground facility in this area.
"Yeah... and we're about to enter that area," Nathan said and walked towards the closed door on the right.
He opened the door and they stepped into the hallway.
Veronica saw the long hallway and several doors, although curious about what's inside those doors, she kept her mouth shut so that she and Nathan can concentrate on their mission.
They walked in the silent hallway for a few minutes, Nathan produced a key from his hand and inserted it on the doorknob. They entered the room quietly. Nathan locked the door.
Veronica rushed to Terros's side in gladness. "Grandpa, it's me Veronica!" she whispered in his ear.
Terros smiled brightly. "Thank you for coming back to save us, daughter!" he replied.
"Go now! Take grandpa Terros with you, I will wait here!" Nathan said urgently.
"Okay, wait a second...!" Veronica said. She waved her hand on the bed. Terros's clone suddenly appeared out of nowhere, lying on the bed with eyes closed. She grabbed Terros's hands and said, "Let's go!"
Terros and Veronica vanished from the room in split seconds.
Nathan breathed deeply. He grabbed the blanket and covered the clone with it.
Every second that passes by, he was getting nervous.
A few minutes later.
"I'm back," Veronica whispered in Nathan's ear.
Nathan smiled. "That was quick! Where is Grandpa?" he asked.
"He's back in the Windless Mountain, at the deity's abode, safe and sound. I left him there, crying hard due to so much happiness. Let's go now to Graven's room!" Veronica said.
"Okay!" Nathan was greatly relieved that the old man was already in a safe place.
They left the room and walked to the next room.
Veronica was surprised that they haven't met a single person in the hallway yet.
Nathan produced another key in his hand and opened the locked.
They entered the room.
Veronica rushed to Graven's side and quickly waved her hand, creating another clone beside him on the bed. "I will leave now!" she hold Graven's arm and they vanished from the room in the blink of an eye.
Nathan was smiling brightly while watching the clone lying on the bed, the replica of his brother. The only difference is that the clone was not breathing, he looks like a statue. He covered the clone with the blanket.
He sat on the chair and waited for Veronica's return.
Suddenly the alarm went on, signaling that an intruder has entered the facility.
"Shiit!" Nathan muttered to himself. He quickly left the room and went to his mother's room and stayed there. If they will check the prisoner's room and discover that it's just a clone, he's dead!
He went to Sylvia's coffin and stayed by her side.
Then he heard voices and footsteps outside.
Damn, they must be trying to find the culprit!
He wondered why the alarm sounded?
Could it be that the absence of Graven's body triggered the alarm? Did his mother install the alarm before she left?
He was in the middle of his musing when the door opened. Corbin entered the room.
"Brother!" Nathan said.
"Stay right here, don't leave the room!" Corbin ordered.
"B-but why?" Nathan asked innocently.
"The alarmed sounded, it signals that an intruder successfully breached the facility! Everyone was ordered to stay where they are so that our men can find the intruder quickly!" Corbin replied.
"Ah, okay. I won't leave here, I'll stay here with mother," Nathan replied.
"Don't worry, bro! Since you don't have any power to protect yourself, I will stay here in the room with you to guard and protect you," Corbin assured him.
"Thank you, brother!" Nathan said in a grateful voice. Deep inside he was getting anxious 'coz anytime from now, Veronica will return to the room.
Will their mission ends here?
Minutes went by.
Suddenly, Nathan saw that Corbin was frozen on the spot. He knew right away that Veronica was back in the room.
"Leave the body now!" Veronica whispered in his ear. "After were done here, I'll return to burn this facility down!" she said.
"No! You can't do that! There are many innocent slaves working in the facility! You will kill innocent people!" he stopped her.
"Whaat? Ah, okay... forget it! Let's leave now!" Veronica opened his palm and the magical vase that can house a soul safely appeared in her hand.
Luke saw the vase, he quickly left Nathan's body in his spirit form and entered the magical vase. The vase disappeared in Veronica's hand.
Then she saw Nathan's body crumble onto the floor, she moved in lightning speed and caught the body before the head hits the coffin. She gently put the body on the floor. She can't understand why she saved the body though? Maybe it's just a spur-of-the-moment thing, weird!
She's done here!
Mission accomplished!
Time to leave!
Veronica vanished from the room and teleported back to the Windless Mountain.
Meanwhile...
Zalvo and his men were checking the rooms, looking for the intruder.
They come to Sylvia's room.
They were shocked to find Corbin frozen in time and Nathan's body crumbled on the floor, unconscious.
Zalvo bolted to Nathan's side. "Son... are you okay?" he asked. He looked at his men. "Continue looking for the intruder! Check the prisoners if they're still in their rooms!" he commanded.
"Aye, my lord!" The men left and went to the prisoner's rooms.
Zalvo was horrified after noticing that Nathan's body was no longer breathing. His skin was now cold under his touch. He quickly lifted his son's body and teleported to the room where his original coffin was stored. He put his son's body on the floor and opened the coffin and placed Nathan there. He immediately set up the valve and activate the apparatus.
Damn! He needs blood!
He quickly teleported back to the manor and took two bags of human blood from the cold storage box.
Done, he teleported back to the room and set up the valve and the hose, sending fresh blood into Nathan's mouth.
He released a deep sigh and covered the coffin. He went back to his wife's room where the frozen Corbin was left behind.
He waved his hand at his son.
A few seconds later, Corbin was now unfrozen, he can finally move his body.
"Father? What's the reason of the alarm? Did the culprit caught already?" he asked as if nothing happens.
Zalvo stared at his son. "You didn't know that when I enter this room, you're frozen on the spot and your brother was lying on the ground unconscious?" he asked.
"Whaaaat?" Corbin said in disbelief. "I didn't know that..." he said in a horrified voice. Damn! He failed to protect his brother!
"The intruder entered this room, freeze you, and harm your brother," Zalvo stated.
"W-where is Nathan's body?" Corbin asked sorrowfully.
"Back in his old coffin. It's the only thing I can think of to save his life," Zalvo replied and walked towards the door. "Let's find the culprit!" he said.
Corbin followed his father outside.
They met the men in the hallway.
By that time the alarm was already turned off.
"How's the prisoners?" Zalvo asked.
"They're still in their rooms, my lord!" the leader of the men replied.
Zalvo and Corbin looked at each other.
"Did you see any damaged or missing things inside the facility?" Zalvo asked.
"None so far, my lord!" the leader replied.
"Good! It seem the intruder already left the facility." His wife told him that the alarm will continue blasting as long the intruder was still inside the vicinity of the facility.
Now that it's already quiet, does it mean the threat was already out of the facility's premises?
He addressed his men again. "Don't let your guard down! Continue checking all the places in the facility!" he barked his orders.
"Aye, my lord!" the leader of the men said, they left the area and continue looking for the intruder.
Zalvo looked at his son. "Let's go and check your brother. I'm getting worried of him," he said and turned around going in the direction of the room where Nathan's body was lying inside the coffin.
When they arrived there, Corbin was shocked to see his brother's lifeless body inside the coffin. He looked at his father. "W-what happened to him?"
Zalvo released a deep sigh and shook his head. "Let me take a guess. The intruder found the room and quickly freeze you... then he did something to your brother because when I entered the room, Nathan was already lying unconscious on the ground. The weird thing I noticed is that I found no injury or wound on your brother's body. And the intruder just freeze you but never harm you. Then the two prisoners were still in their rooms. No one was missing and nothing was destroyed. That confuses me..."
Corbin was trying to recall what happened earlier. "I remembered that brother Nathan was already inside the room, he's watching mother in her coffin. I told him to not leave the room because the alarm sounded and there was an unidentified intruder that successfully entered the facility. We stayed inside the room, then after that I saw you inside the room as well. That's the only thing I can remember, Father," he said.
Zalvo was rubbing his jaw while in deep thoughts, trying to analyze and understand the whole scenario. "It's the first time that the facility was breached by an outsider. Whoever that person is, he or she is quiet capable. He managed to take you off guard, and you failed to detect his or her presence in this room," he said.
Corbin scratches his head in shame. He felt deeply addend to see his brother lying on the coffin looking very much the same when he wasn't resurrected yet. It's all due to his negligence and incompetence that his brother ended like this! His mother will never forgive him if she will learn of what happened to Nathan.
Sighing, he stared at his brother's body, his heart and mind were bombarded with sorrow, guilt, and shame as sadness overwhelmed his entire being.
