The Wife of Hades

The person pulled out his phone and made a call, saying to the other end, "It's working."

Then, the person hung up, putting the phone away again before turning around, her long hair swaying in the air as she left.

Yu Xinyi held onto the warm box tightly as she entered the hospital, looking around for the office with the name An Yuchen on it.

When she found it, she noticed that the door was closed and she leaned her ear towards the door, unable to hear anything. Then, she knocked twice, waiting for a response.

After a while, when she still did not hear anything, she tried to push the door open, only to find that the door was locked. It wasn't lunch time yet. . . so where was he?

She leaned her ear towards the door once more, pressing it tightly against the opening, bending down in a very awkward position.

"What are you doing?" She suddenly heard a man's voice say. It only took a moment for her to recognize the voice, and her eyes widened as she jumped back immediately, bumping into a person. . .

The person instinctively reached his hands out, grabbing onto Yu Xinyi as she quickly whirled around, her eyes meeting with An Yuchen.

"Ah! Sorry," she said right away, looking at An Yuchen's arms, which were still up in the air.

An Yuchen smiled, lowering his arms, "It's okay. What were you doing?"

Yu Xinyi looked back at his office door and gulped, "Um. . . I was. . ." 

Not knowing what to say, she looked down and she noticed the warm container she was holding in her hands, so she quickly held it up, switching the topic, "I made some warm cookies and accidentally made extra, so I brought some over."

An Yuchen looked at the container and a warm smile appeared on his face as he took it over, "Thank you."

Both of them stopped talking as they stood outside his office, and An Yuchen cleared his throat as he walked over and unlocked his office door, "Do you want to come in?"

Yu Xinyi immediately nodded her head. 

Inside the office, Yu Xinyi looked around, noticing nothing but a pile of papers and folders on An Yuchen's table and a couch, which had a coat that probably belonged to him draped over it. 

"Where were you?" Yu Xinyi asked, breaking the awkward silence.

An Yuchen looked up at her as he sat down, "I went to the restroom."

"Oh. . ." 

An Yuchen then opened up the box of cookies, looking at them as he picked one up and took a bite. He raised one eyebrow as a sparkle flashed past his eyes, "I didn't know you knew how to bake. These cookies taste amazing."

Yu Xinyi looked up, her heart pounding, "Really?! Oh. . . I just do it for fun."

She couldn't tell him that she had been searching and testing out recipes for the perfect cookies all summer long just for this moment! How embarrasing would that be?!

An Yuchen finished the cookie in a few bites and looked at the clock on the wall, "I have a thirty minute break before my next patient is here so I have to go eat lunch now."

He stood up, walking around the table and stopping in front of her, hesitating a moment before asking, "Do you want to come with me?"

Yu Xinyi's mouth fell open for a moment when she heard that and she quickly nodded, afraid he would take back his words the next second, "Yes, yes. Sure!"

The two of them entered the hospital cafeteria, where a lot of nurses and other doctors were also eating. When they saw the most popular surgeon in the hospital walk in, many nurses and female doctors turned their way, surprised to see another woman standing next to him.

An Yuchen was undoubtedly the most famous and popular figure in the entire hospital. Not only was he one of the most talented and youngest surgeon, he was also tall, handsome, and nice.

The dream of most, if not all, the nurses here were to somehow get Doctor An's attention. Therefore, the sight of him entering the cafeteria with another girl was a shock to many people in the hospital.

Yu Xinyi obviously noticed all the stares she was receiving, and she followed closely behind An Yuchen as they walked over to the food court to get their tray.

Yu Xinyi looked at the array of dishes and saw several meat dishes and several vegetable dishes. . . Among the meat dishes, there was a pork ribs dish and a pork belly dish. She looked at the ribs, which appeared very appetizing, but frowned.

She couldn't eat ribs in front of him! She would certainly get the red sauce all over her mouth and teeth. How unsightly would that be?! So, she was left with the choice of the pork belly.

An Yuchen was before her, and he chose the pork belly as well, so when Yu Xinyi walked up, she also picked the pork belly. 

After getting their dishes, the two of them returned to their seats. They sat at an empty table, where there was nobody else, but eyes all over the room were on them.

Yu Xinyi lowered her head as she began eating, occassionally peaking up at An Yuchen. 

The nurses around the room were all murmuring, wondering who that girl was.

"Who is that girl next to Doctor An? Why are they eating together?"

"Who knows. . . I heard Doctor An has a little sister. Perhaps she is his sister?"

Another nurse spoke up, "No, it isn't. I've seen Doctor An's little sister once before. It's definitely not her."

The other nurses gasped, "Then who is this girl? Why does she get to eat with Doctor An?"

"Who knows? Maybe they are just friends. . ."

The nurses all fell silent.

Yu Xinyi quickly ate her food, and she first finished her pork belly, which tasted unexpectedly delicious! She did not know that the hospital meals were this good.

Afterwards, she was left with vegetables, which she ate slowly. Her head dug into the food plate, and she couldn't help but feel a little awkward as both of them were not talking.

Suddenly, she noticed another pair of chopsticks reach over to her plate as they placed several slices of pork into her plate.

Her eyes darted up, and she saw An Yuchen moving his meat over to her plate.

"Brother Yuchen, it's okay, you should. . ."

An Yuchen smiled and continued to eat his vegetables, "You are still growing. You need to eat more meat."

Yu Xinyi pursed her lips out, "I'm not a child! I am a grown woman already!" She said, pushing her chest out into the sky.

An Yuchen laughed and shook his head, "Eat your meat."

Yu Xinyi slouched down unhappily, thinking that An Yuchen thought of her as a little sister, but she was a fully grown woman already! She did not need to eat this much meat!

Yu Xinyi grabbed the meat with her chopsticks, placing half of the pieces back into An Yuchen's plate, "Well, brother Yuchen, you need energy to work, so you should eat more meat too."

An Yuchen looked at the meat and chuckled, picking it up and eating it, "Okay, okay. Thank you, sister Xinyi."

He replied, emphasizing the word sister, which made Yu Xinyi frown as she buried her head into her plate and began eating gloomily again.

This sight landed in the eyes of the nurses around them, and the chattering grew even louder.

"They are definitely a couple! Why are they sharing food?"

"Who knows. . . mabye. . ." But there was nothing left to say.

Another male doctor near them heard them and rolled his eyes, "You guys. . . So what if they are a couple? Or what if they aren't? Even if they aren't, do you guys think you stand a chance."

The doctor had spoken the truth, but it did not go well with the nurses as they pursed their lips out and stood up, leaving the doctor to eat alone.

The doctor's eyes widened as he watched all the girls leave, wondering what he had did wrong.

After eating the meal, An Yuchen and Yu Xinyi returned as An Yuchen had to start seeing patients again.

An Yuchen entered the office and Yu Xinyi followed him, staying at the door when he entered.

Yu Xinyi was happy after staying with him for this long already, and she did not want to be annoying, "Brother Yuchen, I still have some homework to do, so I'll get going."

"It's summer break, what homework do you have?"

Yu Xinyi scratched the back of her head a little embarrassedly, "Summer homework."

"Okay. . . Thank you for the cookies."

Yu Xinyi smiled and waved goodbye to him before leaving the office just as the first patient entered.

Yu Xinyi skipped out of the hospital happily, thinking about all the moments with An Yuchen before entering a taxi to go back home.

At this rate, maybe she would have the courage to confess some time soon!
