Chapter 265 Craving for Horses

There really weren't any unspeakable secrets between them; they simply had both attended the same school.

The assistant director was Xiao Yu's senior at school, and with this relationship, he would take care of this junior sister on the set.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Furthermore, Director Xu was always very strict with actors, having made even many famous actors cry. As for a newcomer with little fame like Xiao Yu, he would scold her even more harshly, and when he lost his temper, he might even throw things around.

Though the position of assistant director sounds prestigious, in reality, it involves doing all sorts of miscellaneous tasks, including providing psychological guidance to young actors when they have mental issues.

As time went by, Xiao Yu became increasingly dependent on him and subconsciously sought help from her senior whenever she encountered difficulties.

The assistant director also knew how important this role was for her. For a newcomer's first film to play the female lead under a big director like Xu was a chance to soar to great heights.

If she lost this opportunity, Xiao Yu probably would really suffer from a bout of depression.

Meanwhile, Director Xu continued to vent, muttering to himself, "It's just the right time, we've only just started shooting not long ago. Replacing the actor should still be feasible, and the footage we've shot can be considered scrapped."

Upon hearing this, Xiao Yu's face turned deathly pale, as if she had been sentenced to death.

In the nick of time, the assistant director was sure to pull his junior sister out of trouble, saying hastily, "Angie is so popular, I'm afraid her acting fee won't be low."

But Director Xu wasn't concerned and held up three fingers, "Didn't you say she has many fans and can boost the box office by this much? Just give her half, and if that's really not enough, we can look for new investors to add to the investment. With me as the director and Angie as the lead, who wouldn't invest?"

He became more convinced of its feasibility.

However, what the assistant director said next poured cold water on his plan.

"Does Miss Angie even have a slot in her schedule?"

This was indeed a serious issue. Generally, well-known stars often have packed schedules, and it's normal to be booked several months or even up to a year in advance, especially for a star as popular as love&five.

Of course, in the face of truly important matters, stars can cancel some less important engagements. However, shooting a movie can normally take up to a year or even longer, and there's no way Angie could squeeze out so much time.

Especially since Director Xu required the lead actors to stay on set continuously, and as Angie was part of an idol group and had to participate in group activities, it was even more impossible for her.

As expected, after the assistant director contacted Angie's personal assistant on behalf of the crew to discuss replacing the lead actress, this was flatly refused.

Director Xu looked very disappointed, while Xiao Yu, having narrowly escaped disaster, quickly promised with her hand over her heart that she would practice horseback riding even harder from now on. She vowed to practice day and night, pushing herself to the limit unless it killed her.

Thus, the matter of replacing the actress was left unresolved.

Subsequently, Angie and the second male lead returned, and everyone took their places to commence filming.

The assistant director was surprised to find that the great demon director's temper had significantly improved today, and he didn't lose his temper at any of the actors.

Particularly with a pure novice like Angie, Director Xu was unexpectedly gentle and soft-spoken when instructing her, making Xiao Yu, who was watching from the sidelines, feel a surge of jealousy.

This time, it was out of envy.

While this was certainly because Angie had a high profile, so even Director Xu had to show her some respect, the assistant director had to admit that her performance today was indeed very good, especially in the scenes on horseback.

No one expected that Angie, known for her sweet and obedient image, would play the female constable so convincingly.

Angie had taken the liberty of adding some new actions to those horseback chase scenes.

As a result, when the assistant director looked at Director Xu, the latter actually wore a face full of appreciation.

The assistant director almost thought his eyes were playing tricks on him, knowing that Director Xu's most loathed thing was actors improvising on their own, as he'd even controversially stated in an interview that actors were but tools of the director, and tools didn't need their own thoughts.

It was only because of his solid career background and the fact that he seldom worked with high-profile celebrities that he hadn't been overwhelmed by online backlash.

In any event, this evening's shoot went much smoother than anticipated, although it still ended up running overtime, mainly because Director Xu felt Angie was performing so well, he couldn't help but shoot a few extra takes for her.

It wasn't until the sky had completely darkened that he reluctantly called it a day for the crew.

Afterwards, Director Xu found Angie and praised her again.

"You have a real talent for horse riding. If it weren't for your schedule, I would have wanted you as the leading lady in 'Steed Through the Rivers and Lakes'."

"Director Xu flatters me too much," Angie said as she took the towel passed by her assistant, pretending to wipe sweat but actually concealing her smug expression.

"Working with Director Xu has always been a dream of mine. Though I'm not formally trained, having a cameo in one of Director Xu's movies and experiencing the thrill is pretty great."

"Ah, Miss Angie, everything about you is perfect except for being too modest. You even had your assistant tell me your riding skills weren't up to mark, that we couldn't film the horse-riding scene realistically. If you're not skilled, the rest might as well bang their heads against the wall and be done with it.

"I even hired a riding instructor for them, had a two-month training camp, and this is the level they reach—stiff as boards on horseback, not a drop of the free-spirited boldness of a wanderer in the rivers and lakes; they're all useless."

The more Director Xu talked, the angrier he got, almost ready to grab something to smash again, but he restrained himself since Angie was there.

The two of them exchanged a few more courtesies, agreeing to collaborate again if the opportunity arose.

Angie couldn't help but glance at the brown horse she'd ridden as she was leaving.

The horse seemed to be looking back at her, as if saying goodbye.

Angie waved back at it; she'd discovered for the first time that horse riding was such a fascinating activity. Even though the film was completed, Angie had unwittingly fallen in love with the sport.

She still yearned for more time galloping on a horse, despite her desire being unfulfilled on the set, she wanted to ride more.

Regretfully, she had other commitments that evening—actually, she was busy for the next three days straight and had no time for horseback riding.

It was only on the fourth day that her craving for riding flared up again, and as it happened, there was a brand event in the morning and a riding club nearby.

After wrapping up her tasks, Angie dragged the other four from love&five with her, intending to show them some tricks and watch their jaws drop.

However, whether from too long an absence from riding, mounting the horse didn't go smoothly, and it took Angie three tries and the assistance of a horse trainer by her side to get seated.

But she clearly hadn't grasped the severity of the problem; she even rejected the horse trainer's advice to take it slow and instead clamped her legs around the horse's belly, sending the chestnut horse charging forward.

This time, Angie didn't feel the previous unity with the horse; her whole body swayed precariously on the horse's back, and the wind slapped painfully across her cheeks.

In her panic, she instinctively reached out, desperately grabbing the reins, trying to bring the horse to a halt. The horse did indeed stop, but only after a fierce rearing up on its front hooves.

Afterward, Angie was thrown off the horse's back, landing hard on the ground before the horrified gazes of the other four members of love&five.
