Chapter 149

Chapter 149 - Lin Rou'er's Luck

After Zheng Yaolun purchased the first amulet for one billion, all eyes turned to the second one.

The second amulet fetched an even higher price, with Zhou Boda securing it for 1.15 billion.

Lin Rou'er instantly knew she was out of the running to acquire this amulet, as the cost of the third would surely surpass the first two. And indeed, it did.

Loong Jiuxiao won the third amulet with a bid of 1.23 billion. He had refrained from bidding on the first two out of respect for the Zhou and Zheng families. However, he didn't feel the need to extend the same courtesy to Lin Rou'er, who, in any case, didn't have the financial means to compete.

“Are there any more amulets?” inquired the head of the Wang family.

“That depends on my boss's mood,” replied Zhang Jinsong. With a smile, he addressed the crowd, “I have two pieces of good news to share with you all.”

“The first piece of good news is that my boss will be giving away an amulet for free.” Zhang Jinsong's announcement left the crowd astounded.

“However, as there's only one available, we'll determine the recipient by drawing lots.” Zhang Jinsong then had the hostesses distribute a piece of paper to each person, instructing, “Please write your name on this piece of paper.”

Once everyone had written down their names, Zhang Jinsong collected the slips of paper into a transparent box and gave it a vigorous shake.

”Before we draw the winner, I'll reveal the second piece of good news,” Zhang Jinsong said with a grin. “In a month's time, the Immortals Retreat will auction off a panacea. No matter your ailment, this panacea can cure you.”

The revelation sent a wave of excitement through the audience.

Nobody had anticipated that following the showcase of the amulets, the Immortals Retreat would surprise them yet again with a panacea.

This announcement was tantamount to confirming that the owner of the Immortals Retreat was indeed a master.

“To demonstrate the panacea's effectiveness, we will also use it to freely cure one patient,” Zhang Jinsong continued, pausing briefly before adding, “So, the fortunate individual I draw will not only receive the amulet but also a panacea.”

As Zhang Jinsong finished speaking, all eyes were filled with eager anticipation.

Being chosen would mean saving nearly two billion yuan.

Zhang Jinsong reached into the box and began stirring. A slip of paper clung to his hand, refusing to be shaken off despite his attempts.

His reverence for Ye Hao deepened, recognizing the subtle influence at play.

With the audience watching intently, Zhang Jinsong unfolded the paper, and a name was projected onto the screen: Lin Rou'er.

Lin Rou'er gasped, her hand flying to her mouth as her heart pounded with surprise.

She hadn't expected to be the one chosen.

Zhang Jinsong observed Lin Rou'er thoughtfully.

Did the boss have special regard for Lin Rou'er?

If so, perhaps the Zhang and Lin families should forge a closer bond.

“Congratulations, Miss Lin,” Zhang Jinsong said as he approached and presented a brocade box to Lin Rou'er.

She opened it to reveal a golden rune paper, which she carefully tucked into her inner pocket.

The influential figures around her watched with envy; such protective talismans were exceedingly rare.

Zhang Jinsong had made it clear: acquiring more talismans would be at the whim of Ye Hao.

In other words, they might not be purchasable, even with ample funds.

Zhang Jinsong then engaged in warm conversation with the magnates.

Previously, his ties to the Faang family had commanded their respect, but now, none of them could afford to act superior in his presence.

Realizing this shift, Zhang Jinsong felt a surge of gratitude towards Ye Hao.

Without Ye Hao, he would never have been able to interact with these titans as equals.

Once the dignitaries had departed, Zhang Jinsong, flanked by his bodyguards, made his way to his residence.

As his motorcade navigated a street, over a dozen cars suddenly converged from every direction. Then, over fifty men dressed in black, wielding handguns, emerged from the vehicles.

“Zhang Jinsong, please follow me,” the lead man in black said, eyeing Zhang Jinsong in the car.

Zhang Jinsong pushed the car door open and stepped out. “Who are you?”

“Mr. Stardust would like a word with you.”

“So, you're one of the Three Titans of Glento's underground world,” Zhang Jinsong said with a sneer. “Are you sure you can take me with you?”

“I'm not certain I can take you, but your bodyguards are a different story,” the man in black replied coolly.

“Let me make something clear: you won't be taking me anywhere today, nor will you take my bodyguards,” Zhang Jinsong stated calmly, locking eyes with the man. “And another thing, Mr. Stardust will be erased from Glento by tonight.”

“Mr. Stardust was ruling Glento before you were even born.”

“Yet, the Mr. Stardust you're referring to should not have crossed someone he can't handle.” As Zhang Jinsong finished speaking, the henchmen brought by the man in black collapsed one after another.

Rong Qi's face contorted with shock.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, he charged at Zhang Jinsong, hoping to capture him and secure his own safety.

But as Rong Qi surged forward, he was struck with terror to find his entire body paralyzed by an overwhelming force. He was immobilized.

In that moment, Rong Qi felt his throat being slit by a blade of light, and as blood gushed forth, he was overwhelmed by weakness.

“Call the police and handle this,” a calm voice instructed in Zhang Jinsong's ear.

The one who had intervened was none other than Ye Hao.

Ye Hao had anticipated an attempt on Zhang Jinsong's life, yet he hadn't expected these assailants to act so swiftly. They were a ruthless bunch.

With them eliminated, the police would certainly be pleased.

Mr. Stardust!

Whether it was street thugs or gang leaders, they all had to respectfully address him as Mr. Stardust upon meeting him. In Glento, he was a key architect of the underground hierarchy.

At that moment, Mr. Stardust was sprawled on a sofa, basking in the attention of two lovely girls massaging him.

Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream echoed through the courtyard.

Mr. Stardust's gaze turned icy as he gestured for the two attractive young women to step aside.

Yet the screams persisted, one after another.

“Tiger,” Mr. Stardust called out, his voice grave.

Silence followed.

A heavy feeling settled in Mr. Stardust's chest.

These were his nine most elite bodyguards.

“Drake,” he called out again.

Still, there was no reply.

Mr. Stardust felt his heart sink deeper.

Drake was one of the top three personal bodyguards he had trained himself.

But now, there was no response from Drake either.

It seemed there was only one explanation.
